Maya's POV
"Derek, you should be in the hospital," I say, staring at him in shock.
"I had to be here." Derek's eyes stay locked on the ultrasound screen. "That's my baby. Our baby."
The room goes silent. Dr. Rivera looks confused. Sophie covers her mouth. Ethan's entire body tenses.
"How did you know I was here?" I ask.
"I heard you talking to Sophie at the hospital last night." Derek moves closer, his movements slow and painful from his injuries. "About the ultrasound. About the baby being a girl."
My heart races. "You were awake?"
"On and off." Derek's gaze shifts from the screen to my face. "Maya, why didn't you tell me? All this time you've been carrying my daughter and I had no idea."
"You were engaged to Vanessa," I say quietly. "You chose her over me. Why would I tell you?"
"Because I'm the father." Derek's voice cracks with emotion. "I had a right to know."
"You lost your rights when you threw me away."
