After guiding Dai Mubai to pay one hundred gold soul coins in tuition to Dean Flender, Oscar, Auston, and Ma Hongjun showed him around the campus to get familiar with the place.
When they introduced the Soul Tool Manufacturing Center, Dai Mubai stared in shock at the building, which looked completely different from the other "simple" structures in the academy. It was obviously sturdy and solid.
He suddenly understood. The ability Auston used during their battle today had been from a soul tool.
When Auston had introduced himself as a Soul Engineer earlier, Dai Mubai had already guessed something. But considering that the method to create soul tools was said to be lost and that soul tools were extremely rare in the market, he gave up on that thought.
Yet the building before him clearly showed that Shrek Academy had mastered the method of making soul tools, and not only that, but they had also formed a very mature combat system.
This kind of soul tool research achievement, something that could change the entire structure of the soul master world, appeared before him so suddenly. Dai Mubai felt like his worldview had been refreshed once again.
Even though he was extremely curious, the trio didn't tell him much. They only told him a teacher would explain the academy's soul tool research to him tomorrow.
After chatting idly for a while, the four left the Soul Tool area and arrived at the dorm area.
Then, an awkward scene took place. Because they hadn't expected to get any new students, Flender hadn't repaired the old wooden dorms that were already uninhabitable.
So after paying one hundred gold soul coins in tuition, Dai Mubai had no place to stay.
Oscar, Auston, and Ma Hongjun didn't even know what to say. They cursed Flender's stinginess in their hearts while trying to comfort Dai Mubai.
"Boss Dai, don't panic, there is a place to live."
Auston then returned to his room and brought out the foam-metal hut they used when they went to Star Dou Forest. He placed it on an empty plot beside Ma Hongjun's dorm and unfolded it.
While Auston worked on setting up the foam-metal house, Oscar and Ma Hongjun kept Dai Mubai company and shared their tragic enrollment experience to prove how unreliable the dean was, trying to earn sympathy and build camaraderie.
Ma Hongjun exaggerated dramatically as he spoke,"Boss Dai, you don't know. The three of us came from commoner families. We had no money at all when we arrived.
The dorms were these broken wooden shacks. If Vice Dean Zhao Wuji hadn't pitied us and helped us fix a house, we would've had nowhere to stay.
As for the dorms now, we only rebuilt them ourselves after we earned money in the academy."
He spoke with mock tears, not caring that he was technically Flender's disciple.
He also pointed out their two dorms that were obviously different from the old broken ones, showing Dai Mubai where his future classmates lived.
Watching Dai Mubai's twitching mouth, Auston felt that this new student had clearly already understood the dean's… character.
Once the foam-metal house fully unfolded, Auston invited Dai Mubai inside for a look.
The house was surprisingly convenient and comfortable. Staying for ten days or half a month wouldn't be a problem.
Of course, staying in such a place wasn't a long-term plan, so they still needed to help dismantle the old dorm.
Dai Mubai, clearly not someone lacking money, decided that since the foam-metal house was comfortable enough for temporary use, he would build a new house instead of patching the old one.
So the three began tearing the house down. Turns out, building is troublesome and time-consuming, but tearing things down is fast. Also, smashing stuff was very stress-relieving.
Auston, feeling bad that Dai Mubai had just experienced a frustrating battle, let him handle the easiest and most destructive part.
After a few "boom, boom, boom" White Tiger Light Waves, the already drafty wooden house had only the foundation left.
It would consume too much soul power if Dai Mubai continued breaking it with his ability, so Oscar and Auston switched to soul tools.
A vibration-wave soul tool loosened the foundation, then they fired energy-focusing soul cannons. Two shots each, clean and fast.
Finally, Ma Hongjun activated his spirit and set it on fire. The resulting pit conveniently saved them from digging for the foundation later.
In just half an hour, a house disappeared. Then, since it was lunchtime, the trio took Dai Mubai to find the cafeteria.
To their relief, the cafeteria was no longer serving random village-style pot meals and steamed buns. With more funds now, Flender valued student nutrition, so every meal had plenty of meat and fruit for vitamins.
Just as the four sat down with their food, the missing-all-morning Cowen appeared at the entrance.
Auston had brought Cowen to the academy earlier, then let it play on its own while he watched the entrance exams. It disappeared the entire morning. If Auston didn't believe that a hundred-year wind-type soul beast could escape even if it couldn't win, he would've gone searching.
Fortunately Cowen returned, though a bit messy.
Once Cowen happily ran over, they noticed it was carrying something in its mouth: a small mink with silvery-white fur.
The moment Auston saw it clearly, he sprang up, rushed to Cowen, trapped the unconscious mink in a soul-power confinement device, and began checking Cowen nervously for injuries.
Oscar and Ma Hongjun, who had just finished explaining Cowen's background and strength to Dai Mubai, came over in curiosity.
When they saw the silver-white mink inside the confinement device, they recognized it immediately thanks to their soul-beast identification lessons.
"No way, isn't that a Lightning Mink? And with fur like this, a mutated rare variant!
Judging by the size, it's a hundred-year one too. How did Cowen catch this thing near the village?"
Ma Hongjun blurted loudly.
Oscar hurried to check Cowen as well. Even though he always acted annoyed that Cowen clung to Auston more than him, he cared about the creature too.
The reason for their panic lay in the Lightning Mink.
True to its name, Lightning Mink was known for its incredible speed, but what made it truly famous was its deadly poison.
A single hundred-year Lightning Mink could easily kill a Soul King if the poison wasn't treated in time.
Luckily, after examining Cowen, they found it only looked messy and had consumed too much soul power, but wasn't actually injured.
Thinking about it, it made sense. Cowen must've brought the mink from far away. If it had been bitten, it wouldn't just look messy. They simply panicked due to worry.
Although curious how Cowen caught it uninjured and why such a dangerous soul beast appeared here instead of Star Dou Forest, they decided to eat first. They also prepared food for Cowen, along with sausages and a hamburger to help it recover.
After lunch, they picked up the Lightning Mink to take it to Flender, only to realize its back leg was broken.
Now Auston understood how Cowen caught it unharmed.
With a broken leg, the Lightning Mink couldn't use its speed. Cowen, being a wind-attribute and speed-type soul beast, could wear it down safely and catch it afterward.
Truly a case of pet like owner. In battle, Auston's favorite tactic was also relying on his large soul power to grind the opponent down.
