Actually, when speaking of the mobile phone that Aoshen created, there was another event connected to it—one that shocked everyone in Shrek Academy.
Cowan had somehow learned to read and write without anyone realizing it.
It happened one night in the third month after Aoshen finished building the phone. Aoshen was taking a shower in the dorm bathroom when Teacher Shao Xin called through a video chat request.
Cowan, wandering around the room, heard the sound and picked up the call. But when he saw that Shao Xin couldn't understand him, he hung up again.
A short while later, Shao Xin received a text message from Aoshen's phone that said, "He's taking a shower." (The message was typed using stroke-based input.)
That single message caused the entire academy to gather in shock.
A soul beast that could understand human speech and read human writing—those were always at least fifty-thousand-year-old beasts.
Cowan had just broken every record.
Before, everyone simply thought Cowan was unusually intelligent and might be able to understand human language. But now it was clear—Cowan not only understood speech but could actually write and communicate normally with humans.
The reason no one had discovered this earlier was probably because of another "monster"—Aoshen himself.
Aoshen had spent the most time with Cowan, and he could actually understand the meanings behind Cowan's barks.
So, without realizing it, he had been acting as Cowan's translator all along—and accidentally "buried" Cowan's own talent.
Looking at the oblivious Cowan, who didn't even realize he had done something astounding, everyone could only comfort themselves by saying, "Well, there are countless soul beasts in the world; there's always the chance of a special one."
But Aoshen knew this must be the result of that cultivation method he'd found in the All-Knowing Library.
Cowan's cultivation speed was far faster than that of ordinary soul beasts. Yes, eating a root from the century-old Ginseng Baby each month helped—but still.
The Ginseng Baby, which was also nurtured with nutrient solution, had broken the hundred-year mark earlier than Cowan, yet after all this time, it was only at the two-hundred-year level.
Cowan, who had reached the hundred-year level just four years ago, had already surpassed the Ginseng Baby and was close to breaking through three hundred years of cultivation.
Since Cowan could read and write, Aoshen made him a special version of the phone.
It looked a bit like a typewriter—mainly to make typing easier. The buttons were larger, and since Cowan had his own collar-type soul tool with storage, there was no worry about where to keep it.
That event became the most astonishing one in the entire school year.
Speaking of Cowan, there was another case worth mentioning—the mother Lightning Mink that Cowan had rescued after she broke her legs running to save her child.
After she woke up, the mother Lightning Mink didn't attack Flender, nor did she run off to search for her dead child again.
It was as if she somehow knew Flender had saved her life and that her child could no longer be saved. She just lay quietly, mourning, in the cage Flender prepared, silently healing.
Once healed, she didn't leave—she stayed with Flender, always perched on his shoulder, becoming the second soul beast pet of Shrek Academy.
But the Lightning Mink was clearly not as intelligent as Cowan and wasn't very interested in playing with others.
And so, the school year passed peacefully, and it was time for vacation again.
Classes, holidays; classes, holidays.
Just like that, two years passed.
Now, it was Dai Mubai's third summer break since arriving at Shrek Academy—soon to begin their fourth school year.
The current ages of the students:
Dai Mubai: fifteen,
Oscar and Aoshen: fourteen,
Ma Hongjun: twelve.
During these two years, Ma Hongjun had started venting his Evil Fire by going to brothels—and Dai Mubai was his usual companion.
Of course, they didn't always go together. Dai Mubai was handsome and rich, so most encounters were mutual.
Ma Hongjun, on the other hand—chubby and less fortunate—usually had to pay.
Naturally, the two had tried to drag Oscar and Aoshen along, but the twins had strong willpower. Well, that—and their parents lived right in Soto City.
On the Douluo Continent, it wasn't unusual—by this age, they were all old enough to start families. So some "ideas" were inevitable.
In those two years, Dai Mubai broke through level 30, and everyone went together to the Star Dou Forest to hunt a thousand-year Vajra Tiger for his third soul ring.
His third soul skill was White Tiger Vajra Transformation, a powerful amplifying ability that doubled his combat strength.
Two months later, Aoshen also broke through level 30, but he didn't rush to get his soul ring. He waited another three months, and when Oscar finally broke through as well, they went together to hunt for their third soul rings.
Of course, Aoshen wasn't idle during those three months—he finished crafting the leg armor for his Soul Guidance Armor.
Now, with all parts completed, his armor was a full-body set—a complete mecha.
After obtaining his third soul ring, the first thing Aoshen did was find an empty place, put on his armor, and shout out Iron Man's famous line at the top of his lungs.
Aoshen's leg armor design was simple—built-in speed boosters, energy reservoirs, and medium-range Soul Ray emitters on both thighs.
The most crucial feature was the lower leg design—the armor could transform, turning his legs into powerful close-combat weapons to pair with his Bow Combat Technique.
As for soul skills—
Oscar's third ring came from a thousand-year Phantom Rabbit.
His incantation was: "I have a Phantom Sausage!"
This soul skill increased the user's speed by 20% and allowed them to create three afterimages.
While the illusions existed, the real body would become invisible, free to move normally. If an illusion was attacked, it would vanish.
Aoshen's third ring came from a thousand-year Blackwater Beast.
His incantation was: "Mind Power Forming—Crispy Shrimp Fried Chicken Burger!"
This soul skill allowed him to create three transparent, tangible psychic shields that appeared within one meter around him—a one-meter spherical range centered on his body.
As expected, after obtaining this soul ring, Aoshen's displayed soul power level wasn't 31 but close to 33.
Their Martial Soul Fusion Techniques were also developed:
When Oscar was the lead: "Illusory Transformation Chicken Sausage."
For half an hour after eating the sausage, the user could turn intangible for one second up to three times, becoming immune to physical attacks.
When Aoshen was the lead: "Mind Power Ascension—Black Pepper Shrimp Chicken Pizza."
This skill allowed flight through telekinetic propulsion for ten minutes, at the user's maximum straight-line speed.
As for Fatty Ma Hongjun—despite his constant distractions from venting his Evil Fire, at twelve years old, he still managed to reach level 29, though he'd only just broken through during the current vacation.
In short, everyone had grown a lot in two years—in every sense.
For example, fourteen-year-old Oscar already had a full beard, perfectly inheriting his father's genes.
Aoshen was thankful he hadn't taken after that side. Though the twins looked alike, a closer look revealed Oscar resembled Aubergine more, while Aoshen looked more like Yun Shuangshuang.
Even their eye color proved it.
The morning before the new school year began, Oscar and Aoshen were working at their parents' shop when they received a message from Dai Mubai.
It told them to return to the academy the night before, not on the usual morning of the first day.
Neither of them questioned it—they finished lunch, packed up, and set off for Shrek Academy.
After all, the shop didn't really need them, and after six weeks at home, their parents had started to get tired of them anyway.
When they arrived at the academy, they found that not only had Dai Mubai already returned, but Ma Hongjun was there too.
That was strange—just last night, those two had been planning to spend the final free day partying all day in Soto City.
Curious about what had happened, Oscar and Aoshen didn't even bother unpacking. They went straight over to Dai Mubai and Ma Hongjun.
Oscar asked directly, "What's going on with you two? Weren't you planning to have fun today? Not only did you come back early, you even called us back too!"
