Chapter 24 - Chapter 24

The last few days had been sheer agony for Samuel. He couldn't even go to the bar downstairs and had to endure women knocking on his door every night while he was cooped up with his companions.

But finally, after three difficult days, the situation improved. Chris sent the information: the Juarez family's goods were located in a remote logistics warehouse on the outskirts of New York. The Juarez family probably never imagined their hideout would be discovered so quickly.

Given that the warehouse was quite far, several hours away, Logan ordered Josh and the others to prepare their weapons and gear and depart before sunset.

Samuel and Josh first went to find a reliable truck; as soon as they secured the goods, they had to leave the state immediately to avoid complications.

Before the operation, Logan warned Conrad privately: "This mission is very important, don't mess it up!"

Conrad smiled, patted Logan on the shoulder, and said, "You take care of yourself first, Mr. Howlett."

Logan watched Conrad walk away, his gaze darkening.

Several hours later, the full moon shone high in the sky, and the forest was silent, save for the occasional grunt of an unknown nocturnal animal.

Samuel was tasked with providing support near the warehouse, while Logan, Josh, and Conrad hid in the forest, watching the warehouses in the distance. All the warehouses were dark, and apart from an occasional security patrol, there was no sign of activity.

"The cargo is in Warehouse Number Five," Logan said, pointing to the fifth warehouse in the row.

"How do we get in?" Josh asked, frowning as he stared intently at Warehouse Number Five.

These warehouses had no windows, and all had iron doors. Even if they could force the locks, the noise when opening the doors would immediately alert the security staff.

"Ventilation ducts," Logan murmured, glancing at the ventilation openings on the warehouse roof.

In addition to sending him the address, Chris had also sent him the blueprints. The map showed that, besides the main door and the small back door, the roof ventilation ducts were a good entry point.

To ensure adequate ventilation in the enclosed warehouse, these ducts were designed large enough for an adult to crouch and squeeze through.

Taking advantage of a security team passing by, Logan quickly ran to Warehouse Number Five. They had calculated the security team's passing time; they wouldn't return for at least half an hour.

Upon reaching Warehouse Number Five, Logan pulled out a grappling hook, threw it forcefully toward the top of the warehouse, and pulled hard. The hook latched firmly onto the bricks of the roof.

Using the hook, the group easily climbed onto the roof and entered the warehouse through the ventilation ducts.

The warehouse was completely dark; Logan carefully inspected the interior with his flashlight.

"Over here!"

After searching for a while, Logan finally found the two crates marked BU-26 and BU-27.

The iron crates were larger than common briefcases, sealed with duct tape and three padlocks, each with a serial number.

Josh and Conrad, who had been searching elsewhere, heard Logan's voice and rushed over to check. After confirming it was their objective, they couldn't help but smile.

For them, this wasn't just cargo: it was their reward for the mission!

However, just as they were about to pick it up, a loud crash echoed in the darkness. A series of blinding lights flickered on from the warehouse ceiling, instantly illuminating the complete darkness.

The sudden bright light made Logan and the others raise their arms to shield their eyes.

Clap clap clap!

Loud applause suddenly resonated. The three looked in the direction of the applause and saw more than a dozen figures emerge from the open corridor on the second floor of the warehouse, each armed with a rifle.

Leading the group was a bearded man in his fifties, standing in the corridor, clapping and laughing:

"Lawrence took this very seriously; they even managed to find this place!"

"Damn it!" exclaimed Josh; being surrounded in the warehouse was a bad sign.

"Juarez's men?" Logan asked, frowning and staring intently at the bearded man.

The man scrutinized them as if they were prey, saying regretfully:

"Choosing to work for Lawrence was a terrible decision."

He waved his hand, and his face instantly turned fierce:

"Kill them!"

He had barely finished speaking when more than a dozen gunmen pulled their triggers almost in unison.

Bang, bang, bang!

The deafening gunfire violently echoed in the warehouse, bullets raining down from the rifle barrels.

Logan's pupils sharply contracted, and he grabbed Conrad and Josh, pulling them behind a large cargo container.

The intense bullets impacted the container, creating a crunching sound.

Logan, sensing the enemy's firepower, frowned. After a moment's thought, he turned to Josh and said:

"Grab a box and run. We'll cover you."

The gunfire had undoubtedly alerted the guards outside. If they didn't leave soon, they would be trapped once the warehouse was surrounded.

Josh understood their predicament and nodded emphatically.

Logan gripped his pistol with both hands and whispered:

"Three, two, one."

He then jumped up, raised his pistol, and pulled the trigger.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Bullets flew through the air, instantly piercing the heads of several gunmen.

The bearded man, surprised by the marksmanship, quickly turned and hid behind a column.

The other gunmen panicked and took cover.

"Now! Use the box for cover, run!" Logan shouted.

Josh quickly lifted a crate, using it for protection, and ran desperately towards the door.

In the corridor, the gunmen hiding behind cover quickly pulled out their weapons and opened fire on Josh.

Fortunately, the cargo crates served as cover, blocking most of the bullets, and Logan's suppression fire made it difficult for many gunmen to peek out. Only three gunmen with better angles could shoot at him, so he didn't suffer serious damage.

"Damn it, stop him!" roared the bearded man, hidden behind a column and watching Josh's figure.

Hearing this, the other gunmen peered out almost simultaneously. Some fired bursts of bullets in Logan's direction, forcing him back behind the cargo crates. The other gunmen, however, aimed their weapons at Josh.

Just as they were about to shoot him, Conrad, who had climbed to the other side, suddenly stood up and yelled:

"Hey, over here!"

As he spoke, several bullets accurately struck the gunman. As a mercenary, his aim was excellent.

Logan seized the opportunity to counterattack, killing all the gunmen who had fired at Josh.

The bearded man, pale at seeing his men fall one after another, ran before the fire concentrated on him.

Meanwhile, well-protected, Josh managed to open the warehouse door, grabbed the crate, and ran out.

"Damn, finally all dead."

Conrad looked at the large group of corpses and sighed in relief.

"Footsteps, security is coming!"

Logan clearly heard hurried footsteps approaching.

"The main door is useless, let's go for the back one!"

He remembered there was a small door at the back of the warehouse.

"Okay."

Conrad didn't think much of it and ran toward the back door with the crate.

But upon arriving, they were stunned.

The back door was different from the main one. The main door had a mechanical lock that could be opened from the inside, but the back one had an old lock, completely blocked from the outside: impossible to open from within.

"Damn it, what do we do now?!" Conrad exclaimed in panic.

The footsteps behind him were accelerating; security personnel and armed men had entered the warehouse and would soon surround them.

Logan glanced back, then raised his foot and kicked the back door hard.

Bang!

The immense force instantly bent the iron door, and the exterior lock couldn't withstand the violent impact.

Conrad stared at the open door, his eyes wide with astonishment. But he knew this was no time for surprises, so he quickly picked up the merchandise.

However, the next instant, he froze, staring intently at Logan, or more precisely, at the pistol in his hand.

The dark barrel was aimed directly at his heart.

"You!" Conrad cried in panic, but Logan pulled the trigger without hesitation.

Bang!

The shot sent him crashing to the floor. He stared with wide eyes at Logan's cold expression.

"Kid, you messed with the wrong person," Logan said, picking up the crate.

"Despicable…"

Conrad lay on the floor, blood pouring out, his face contorted with rage. He raised his weapon with his last remaining strength.

Bang, bang, bang!

Several more shots riddled him. A pool of blood spread beneath him.

Conrad died consumed by resentment.

Logan looked at Conrad, ensuring he was dead. He glanced at the approaching gunman and shot him in the forehead. Then he picked up the crate and ran toward the rendezvous point.

At that moment, several lines of text appeared before his eyes:
