"You are my only partner. There is no one else," Jay said, his tone calm yet unwavering, his eyes fixed firmly on Liv.
Liv held her breath, her heart pounding in her chest. The words sounded sweet, yet they conflicted with everything she had known about tradition. "But… don't you have concubines? How can you now say that I am your true partner?" Her voice trembled, a mix of anger, disbelief, and confusion.
Jay leaned forward slightly, his gaze never leaving hers. "Because… we have been intimate. We have spent those nights together. And in my eyes, that makes you my true partner."
