Chapter 34 - Two More

When she and Deacon had left the restaurant, Haley'd had no idea where they were going. She had just been glad to be away from her grandfather, and the way he almost always knew just what to say to make her feel small without even bothering to raise his voice.

After getting off the boat, they had gotten into Deacon's car, and she had been too drained to even ask him where they were going. When he had turned into the tiny park, where the two of them had decided to remain as husband and wife. Haley had felt the tension begin to seep out of her.

Now, with the two alone on their little stone bench, hidden from the rest of the park visitors, Haley was even more relaxed. They had not spoken yet, but the silence was not awkward. Haley was just enjoying the feel of the warm sun against her skin. The cool breeze, showering her with flower petals from time to time, the scent of the roses all around her soothing.
