"I wasn't actually caught," he said, expecting a reaction from her. But she just stared... indifferent. She had become numb to the element of surprise, most specifically his. Anything was possible under the sun for a gang leader.
"Were you cloned?" She asked, shooting him a sketchy glare that reeked of suspicion.
But what she hadn't actually expected was for him to be right... almost, at least.
"Just my face," he said, indifferently, and Amelia returned the favor by not showing any piece of chalance... although internally, she was gagged about the whole reveal.
Face cloning... really?... I mean... this certainly wasn't her first time hearing of the term... but she was about to learn about it firsthand... in the most up-turned way possible.
And so she pressed on... wanting to know about the whole thing.
"Go on," she said... trying not to show excitement... but her voice tone almost gave her away... or it did, because afterwards... a smile tore across Jake's lips.
"The underworld is a very sketchy place, rainbow, very... very sketchy, and if you're not careful, you end up losing yourself to its nature, and you end up a pathetic version of your once-self," he said. It was a note of introduction, to which Amelia had stopped paying attention halfway. And so she nodded awkwardly when he stopped talking; he rolled his eyes, sighed, and continued.
"Technology is a big part of the gang world, rainbow, and as the day goes by, there are new inventions... created every day for the smooth running of the underworld and daily life, too... 'cause, trust me... as upstuck as Raccoon City may seem... we are most certainly, always up to date on the latest things... more up to date than higher heights, if you will... take it from a gang leader... I can show you when we get out of this mess..."
"...I told you, there's no 'we'. There's only YOU, and no, thank you... I don't plan on returning to Raccoon City anytime soon, and that's a fact."
"Well... okay, so with this, you understand where I'm going to... police track me down... I make a loyal member take the fall... I escape to this place... this and that and the third... basically, all that stuff." He said, and she sighed, a sigh of dissatisfaction... what was meant to be an intriguing story morphed into an underwhelming lecture.
She looked out of the window... the sirens were out of earshot, and the coast seemed to be clear. She looked back at the figure before her...
"It's time; the coast is clear," she said, hands folded.
"Oh, rainbow... chasing me away... so soon?" He said, his tone showing his gloominess... he was hurt.
"Yes, Jake, a promise is a promise, remember?" She said, adamant.
"I guess..." he said, a soft grunt leaving his mouth. He paced towards her and instantly, enveloped her in a hug... a warm, soft hug that she didn't care to protest. After a few minutes, he landed a wet kiss on her lips and went to the door, holding the knob and twisting it open.
"Adios, rainbow... see you soon," he said and left, the door shutting with a soft clink behind him.
Amelia stood, flushed and cheeks red. Had she just succumbed to the devil's advances, or what?
