Chapter 22 - "Blood on the Control Room Floor"

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________

"Another new day… I wonder what Bardock and Gine were talking about last night?"

Muttering to himself, Harry fixed some food and started eating while his mind kept turning over the details.

Bardock had planned everything out carefully, that much was certain. But even so, there were still risks.

Even if they managed to leave Planet Vegeta safely, Harry would still have to create a convincing illusion that they'd died en route—cut off any chance of being tracked or detected.

"All those years I spent studying every bit of tech I could get my hands on weren't for nothing. At least now I know how to disable the locator and audio surveillance modules in my scouter myself. No one can spy on me or trace my movements anymore."

Of course, a scouter was nowhere near as complex as a spaceship. But Harry had long since familiarized himself with medium-sized ships—and even had a full set of design schematics.

So, over the past few days, he'd marked out every tracking and monitoring unit aboard their vessel. As soon as he destroyed or removed them, the ship would still function perfectly—and he could even forge data feedback to make it look like the ship had exploded in space.

"Maybe I'm overthinking this," he sighed. "Even if Aunt Gine and I are both close to Bardock, there's no reason they'd actually track us. King Vegeta might be wary of Bardock, but Raditz has already fallen under his thumb."

Living for so long under that constant tension—on a planet where the weak were crushed without mercy—had trained him to be cautious, maybe too cautious.

But if he looked at it objectively, it didn't make much sense to worry. Every day, hordes of Saiyans left for missions and came back. Two five-year-old kids and a low-ranking logistics worker, with a combined battle power barely over 1,000? Who would bother to keep tabs on them?

A proper adult Saiyan fighter could easily reach several hundred, even a thousand in power. The more elite lower-class warriors—like those in Bardock's squad—often hit one or two thousand apiece. Every one of them was strong.

Which made it kind of funny that, in the original story, Raditz was painted as such a weakling.

Harry remembered how Toriyama's early drafts had portrayed Raditz—a bottom-tier warrior, basically a nobody. But after actually living on Planet Vegeta, Harry understood: a battle power of 1,500 really was only "above average" for a lower-class Saiyan.

If Toriyama hadn't later published those character guides detailing upper-class Saiyans, who would've guessed Raditz was actually a product of wasted potential?Following Vegeta and Nappa around meant he never got a real fight, never had the chance to grow stronger.Sure, he fought sometimes—but it was always slaughtering weaklings. When a real threat appeared, it was never his turn.

Shaking off those thoughts, Harry straightened his mood, got dressed, and stepped outside.

He'd finished all the preparations in the past few days. All that was left now was to check the ship again, make sure nothing was missing—and get used to operating it.

Outside, he spotted Celari waiting for him. She'd been training with him lately, showing up early every morning out of habit—even though their training was already done.

It was as good a time as any to tell her they'd be leaving in two days.

Celari lit up with excitement when she heard the news. She was pure-hearted and straightforward; all she could think about was finally flying through space, seeing new worlds.

Harry didn't want to burden her with too much, so he kept the details to himself.

Together they headed for the docking bay, passed the identity check, and boarded the ship. As they went over the supplies, Harry made sure to familiarize himself again with every system and compartment.

After a while, loud voices echoed from outside—the familiar ones of Bardock and Gine.

They'd come to bring luggage Bardock had helped Gine pack, saving them the trouble of doing it on departure day.

Though Gine hadn't been on a mission in ages, she wasn't unfamiliar with space travel. She'd once been part of invasion squads herself—until her low battle power and Bardock's insistence led her to stay on Planet Vegeta as a supply worker. And, of course, there had been her pregnancies—first Raditz, then Kakarot.

After checking out the ship and chatting a bit, the four of them left together, laughing lightly.

Only then did Harry realize something—Bardock must have planned this all along. When he helped buy the medium-class ship, he'd already decided that Gine would go with Harry, away from Planet Vegeta.

So that's why everything went so smoothly, Harry thought. You saw through me the whole time, didn't you? You just never said it out loud.

Bardock really was sharp—too sharp. His intelligence set him apart from ordinary Saiyans. No wonder people saw him as the protagonist of his age.

In another timeline, he'd even survived Planet Vegeta's destruction—somehow traveling back to the days before Saiyans invaded Planet Plant. There, he'd transformed into the first Super Saiyan, defeating one of Frieza's ancestors—the space pirate Chilled.

Harry couldn't help but shake his head at the thought. If something like that really happened, not even the Dragon Balls could undo it.

Still, after everything that had happened to him—being reborn as a Saiyan from another world—was anything really impossible anymore?

As if sensing the shift in Harry's thoughts, Bardock looked up and met his eyes.

Their gazes locked, and a chill ran down Harry's spine before he quickly looked away.

"What's wrong, little Harry?" Bardock teased, his tone light, unreadable.

"Nothing. Just… thinking about the future. Who knows how it'll turn out?" Harry said vaguely.

His words seemed to weigh on Gine too, the light in her eyes dimming a little.

They all fell silent—each lost in their own thoughts, none able to see what the others truly felt.

Bardock finally broke the quiet. "Don't overthink it. The only way to know the future is to walk toward it yourself."

That line changed the mood again—calm, grounded, resolute.

Harry nodded, saying nothing more. Gine simply looked at Bardock, choosing to believe in him completely.

Celari, still too young to grasp the full weight of the moment, just smiled beside them—bright and oblivious to the undercurrent of emotion around her.

"..."
