Summer's jaw fell apart. "I-I didn't know…If I knew…"
Danica pulled Noel toward her. "If I came a minute late, he might have broken out in hives. Or worse."
The air buzzed with murmurs. A few employees exchanged worried looks, whispering sympathy for Summer.
"She must not have known," someone said.
"Thank God he didn't eat any," another sighed.
But there were those who were jealous of Summer. And they didn't hesitate to blame her.
"Summer shouldn't have given him anything," Lucy whispered.
"Exactly," another chimed in. "She is clearly trying to impress the boss using the kid."
"Oh, she is good at that," Luci added with a disdainful snort. "She used to pamper Kate to stay in her good books. Now she is doing the same."
