It has already been two and a half months since Emy and Ethan adopted me. I've started learning more about English, and now I can speak and understand it better, but I still occasionally speak in Spanish. Emy and Ethan don't mind me speaking Spanish at all; they said that since I know both languages, it will be easier for me to talk to people and understand new opportunities. When I woke up in the morning, I heard Ethan tell Emy to come and get me out of my room. As soon as I hear that, I think I did something wrong, and my heart races.
When I hear the door open I get up quickly from my bed and ask, "Did I do something wrong?" Then Emy replies, "No silly, we're going on a trip." "A trip? To where?" I ask, and she tells me it's a surprise and I should get my things ready so we can leave. After she says that, I gather my things and head to the car. Ethan then gets his things, and we set off on the road. While on the road, Ethan asks me if I've ever had a nickname before. "I used to have one when I was younger, but I forgot what it was," I reply. Ethan then suggests, "Well, how about Tony?
That would be a good nickname for you." "Sure, I'd like that," I say. About an hour later, I see a sign that says "Welcome to New Mexico." After we pass the sign, I ask, "Why are we in New Mexico, Emy?" She explains, "Well, Tony, the reason we're here is because it will be our little vacation. We have a cabin in a town called Ruidoso, so we'll be busy all weekend." "Really?" I say, then ask, "Hey Emy, is it okay if I take a short nap?" "Sure," she replies, so I close my eyes and take a quick nap. When I woke up, it was dark out, but we're in Ruidoso. As I stare out the window, a song comes on the radio, and for some reason, it makes me feel calm and relaxed. We finally arrive at the cabin, and as soon as I saw it, it looked like a mansion with two big gates in front.
When we enter the property, a man walks up and waits for us. Seeing him, I ask, "Who's that man at the front door?" Emy says, "That's Mr. Roe; he takes care of the horses we have here." I say, "Really?" in a surprised voice. She explains, "Yes Tony, Ethan, and I lived in Texas; we used to live here in the old days when we first met. "Wow, that must be cool," I say, but I'm shocked that Emy and Ethan own this place. I knew they were rich, but not this rich. As I get out of the car and grab my stuff, Mr. Roe comes up to me and starts asking who I am.
I was nervous to answer because I've never met him before, so I said, "Mi nombre es Tony, señor." I guess he senses that I'm scared of him, so he leaves me alone for now. When I go inside, Emy shows me to my room and tells me to get some sleep since I've been up late. I nod my head and lie down, soon falling asleep.
