Kai looked at the chaos of bodies moving to the beat. "I should warn you I'm a terrible dancer."

"I've seen you play basketball. You have coordination."

"Basketball doesn't require rhythm."

"Fair point." I stood, holding out my hand.

"Dance with me anyway?"

He took my hand, smiling. "How could I refuse?"

Kai was right he was a terrible dancer.

But he was also enthusiastic and didn't care that he was terrible, which somehow made it endearing. We laughed through three upbeat songs, joined by Sophie and Riley who were equally uncoordinated.

Then the music shifted. A slow song started something romantic and piano-heavy that I vaguely recognized.

"Finally," Kai said, pulling me close. "Something I can actually handle."

His arms went around my waist, mine around his neck, and we swayed to the music. Around us, other couples were doing the same, but I only noticed Kai.

"This is nice," I said.

"Better than running from criminals?"

"Significantly better."
