Rise of the Feline Society Chapter 10 - The First Match
Out of everything that could have happened when he arrived, he did not expect this outcome. He was expecting to ease his way into the club but literally a couple seconds later he found himself a team captain and was going against his younger twin sister. William just shook his head as his obvious first pick was Jack. Sophie selected her first then it continued back and forth until both of them had selected their 20 people. Before William went over to shake his hands with the other team captain who happened to be his twin, he ate one more chicken tender from his backpack setting it down on the bench.
The system began to speak. "Daily Quest Complete: Consume 3kg of meat a day. 10 Exp has been granted. Exp 55 of 100. This quest will reset at midnight."
The twins looked at each other before walking up and shaking each other's hands.
"Good luck," William said.
"Good Luck," Sophie replied.
"New Quest received," the system announced. "You have initiated a friendly game of Rageblitz. Use your skills and speed to beat your opponent. Rewards: 200 Exp, plus 5 stat points to use as you wish, and a new skill."
William's heart began to race in excitement. A new Quest. He hadn't gotten a quest yet but based on the description he'll be able to get stronger. It also said new skill, so if it was anything like his Agile Reflexes skill, he needed to do whatever it took to make sure the quest was completed. Now with a hop in his step he and his team went to their goal to strategize.
Upon reaching the goal a student immediately spoke up.
"I'm just going to say this," a kid just slightly taller than William stated. "Team captains are just used for selecting the teams. It keeps the practice teams randomized. Because of the new law we finally have enough people along with subs in order to play against other schools." He paused taking a breath before continuing. "I'm already on the team so I'll just play goalkeeper so you guys can go and show your skill to coach Grayson. Work as a team, play defensively because some of these kids can be very good at moving through the parkour field, and remember fighting is allowed so watch your back. By the way my name is Finn Mason."
Before anyone could say anything, he walked over standing in front of the goal. The others looked at each other but before anyone could start talking Coach Grayson's booming voice echoed in the area.
"Alright noobies!" He shouted from the very middle of the course placing a ball that looked like a dodge ball down on the ramp. "Everyone, place your hand on the goal except for the goalkeeper."
Immediately William and the rest of his team ran over to the goal placing a hand on one part of the rim except for Finn. Across the field Sophie and her team did the same thing. During that time coach Greyson traversed through the parkour field exiting out on the side.
"On my whistle you may begin. Also don't worry there are medical staff on the side," He reminded them.
On the side evenly spread out were ten people wearing black shirts with a red cross on the middle standing next to various equipment and medical supplies. That's when a whistle sounded throughout the stadium. Immediately everyone began to move and started to make their way on the field. William joined them jumping on a beam so gracefully like he was born to do this. He jumped around on the course, running on ramps and swinging his way toward the ball.
Woah! William thought. I am not well balanced but ever since I got this new Animorph power I can balance very well…like a cat. I mean, William continued to think, the technological skin did look like a cat even if it just looked like a house cat.
Though William was gracefully going through the field with the help of his new powers, there were some people that were just better than him. On both sides at least twelve people got there before him. One of them was his twin Sophie who snatched the ball jumping away before William's teammate could grab it. She started to make her way towards William's goal closely followed by two of her teammates while the others dragged behind.
William's second pick who he selected because he was tall and muscular landed in front of Sophie throwing out a fist.
Sophie's eyes widened as she ducked skidding underneath his body and the man's fist hit Sophie's teammate on the shoulder.
"Ow," she yelped stumbling back.
Before the man could do anything, Sophie jumped away heading towards William. Sophie kept on going through the course as William landed in front of his sister. Unlike his second pick he didn't have the heart to hit his sister so instead he quickly rushed forward trying to snatch the ball. Sophie yanked the ball away and back handed William across the face before she leapt past him. William's head smashed onto the railing and the rest of his body jolted forward sliding off the platform he was on, slamming his back against a support beam before he hit the ground.
"Ow," William hissed in pain.
"You have been injured on your head and back. Your body has slight internal bleeding. Minus 5 Health points. HP: 45 of 50. 8 energy will be used to perform emergency healing. Energy: 92 of 100."
Immediately William could feel a warmth crept across his body as he heard a whistle blow.
"One point for team Sophie!" Coach Grayson yelled. "Well done. Now Reset!"
Both teams proceeded to go and return to their goals as he just laid on the ground for a moment.
Another member of William's team leapt down landing next to William her arm outstretched. "You alright?" she asked.
"Yeah," William grunted as he accepted her hand getting pulled up to his feet. "I just didn't expect my sister to hit me so casually."
"I'm actually surprised you hesitated. If my sister were here, I would punch her face so fast you wouldn't even notice," she said looking in the distance like she was watching it happen. She shook her head like she was trying to get out of a daze. "My name is Amelia Anderson, and your William…"
"Carter," William finished.
"Nice to meet you," she said. "We should probably go get to the goal."
William nodded his head heading towards the goal along with Amelia.
Coach Grayson blew the whistle signaling the next match and everyone rushed to the middle.
I'm not going to let her win, William thought. I need the rewards from the quest.
"Skill activated: Agile Reflexes: Minus 5 energy. Temporary boosts dodge chance and speed for a short time, allowing the cat to evade attacks effortlessly. Energy 87 of 100. Speed 11 of 8."
His speed immediately increased and if William thought he was going through the obstacles fast now he definitely was.
William was running through the obstacles at a speed which caught coach Grayson's attention.
"He is definitely faster than before," he muttered.
This time William got to the ball exactly at the same time as his sister. The twins both grabbed the ball at the same time trying to yank it from each other's grasp. Sophie leapt up swinging out her foot towards his head.
Why is she being so aggressive? This is what William thought as his body on its own moved his head to the side just far enough that the kicked missed causing Sophie to fall at a weird angle.
Without hesitation William grabbed the ball traversing his way towards Sophie's goal. On his way there several people got in his way trying to grab the ball or William. He just leapt away like a cat and his teammates began to clash with Sophie's team. William got to an area where he was running on all fours like a cat with the ball in his hand for a couple of seconds catching William off guard which did not go unnoticed by Coach Grayson who was very impressed.
"Oh," Coach Grayson chuckled. "The twins are on the team. I'll tell them after practice."
William kept on cruising his way through the obstacles passing the defenders until he reached the goalkeeper. William leapt forward faking a throw to the right then throwing it to the left entering the goal. The sound of a whistle blowing echoed in the underground stadium.
"One point for team William!" Coach Grayson yelled. "Well done. Now let's reset again!"
William feeling very happy made his way back to his side by just walking around the field. He passed his sister who stuck her tongue at him. William ignored her as he went to place his hand on the goal.
For the rest of practice William kept using his skill Agile Reflexes to get the upper hand. Surprisingly the stunt that he pulled on the second round was a one-time fluke because he would constantly mess up to where he still would be slower, mess up his footing or getting the ball snatched from his grasp. He would get in scuffles sustaining injury. He would have to run back to his backpack in order to eat some chicken tenders restoring his health and energy.
Even though the game was only supposed to be in two 30-minute halves, practice itself was around 3 hours long. The time was 6:15pm. When the coach finally blew his whistle his team barley one with just one point. The score was 16 to 15.
"Quest Complete," the system stated. "You have beaten your opponent in a friendly game of Rageblitz. Rewards will be granted. Plus 200 Exp. Congrats you are now a leveler. You have reached level 2. Exp: 145 of 200. A stat point has been granted for reaching a new level."
William smiled when he saw the first part but he wanted to see more.
"Plus 5 stat points have been granted. You now have 6 stat points to allocate. A new skill has been unlocked. Limited Controlled Transformation: Allows the Felkin to transform only his hands, feet, and his head into his Felkin form as he wishes. The strength gained from this will be dependent on how much the user wishes to transform and will only apply on those ligaments. While in this state, Energy will be consumed 25% faster than normal to sustain that body part. Stats will increase depending on which body parts are transformed."
A limited controlled transformation skill William thought opening up the system and looking at the skill. When he hovered over the skill it showed multiple options on how to transform his body. He selected his hands and he slowly moved the toggle bar from the left to the right. Immediately he felt energy flow into his hand has his pointer finger started to elongate and orange fur started to sprout. He immediately moved the toggle back as to not cause a scene and his finger reverted back to its human form. He switched tabs going into his stats section. William thought as of right now it was better if he tried to even out his stats so he wasn't lacking in anything.
"Dexterity plus 3," the system said after he allocated his points. "Endurance plus 3. Your Endurance has increased. Your energy reserves have increased from 100 to 150."
After he was set and done, he looked at his stats.
The system began, "Host Name: William Carter. Species: Felkin. Title: None. Rank: None. Level: 2. HP: 30 of 50. Energy: 67 of 150. Strength 7. Speed: 8. Dexterity: 7. Endurance: 8. Exp: 145 of 200."
There was a smile on his face before behind the system screen in his vision he could see his sister Sophie.
"What is your dumb face smiling at?" She asked looking behind her but there was nothing there. She looked back at William before rolling her eyes. "You're too slow so I'm going to leave. Mom and Miranda are working tonight so don't stay out to late, bye"
She turned around leaving William behind. Jack had left as soon as the club was over claiming that his parents needed him home so he left before Sophie did.
After that William quickly opened his backpack consuming enough Chicken tenders to restore his health and energy bar to max. William only had around twenty-two chicken tenders left.
"Well, that was fun," Amelia said placing her bag next to William's. "Do you think you made the team?"
"I don't know," William replied.
Before more could be said, Coach Grayson approached the both of them. "Congrats William and Amelia, you're on the team," Grayson said with a smile but stopped when he didn't see Sophie. "Where's your sister?"
"She went home," William replied.
"Well, please tell her she made the team," he said before leaving the two of them.
"Well, I guess I have to stay now even though someone told me I should come here," Amelia said putting her long shiny brown hair into a bun.
That's when two buzzing sounds were heard simultaneously. One coming from William's pocket and the other came from Amelia's. Both of them made eye contact, her hazel eyes meeting his. They both slowly pulled out a burner phone. Both of the phones had the exact same look. William checked his message and it was from Felix.
This message will automatically be sent to you at 6:20pm. Another one of our members is also playing Rageblitz with you. Her name is Amelia Anderson. She has shiny brown hair and hazel eyes. Find her and meet us at this location.
Below the message was directions to a specific location that Felix wanted him to go to.
When William was done, he looked up at Amelia who also lifted her head up at the same time. Nothing happened before eventually Amelia broke the silence.
"Did you get a message from Felix?" She asked cautiously.
William nodded his head in response and Amelia gave a sigh.
"Well, she said. "I guess you're our new member. We should probably get to the address and not keep Felix waiting."
The two gang members grabbed their things and proceeded to leave the school building heading to where Felix was waiting for them.
