Chapter 25 - Chapter 25: Tonight, Death Goes Live

On the other side, Michael and Mercy were standing in front of a house where they had sensed the presence of a woman's spirit. This spirit had launched a deadly attack on a family member who had recently shifted here, and now Michael had come to capture that soul and send it to hell.

"What do you think, Mercy? Why is this spirit so angry?" Michael asked, looking at Mercy, who was cleaning her blades at the moment.

"It's simple, Michael. When this woman was alive, humans must have troubled her, and now after death, she's taking revenge on other humans for that. But whatever the reason may be, she has broken the laws of our spirit world, and there is only one punishment for that—burning her soul to ashes so she can reach neither hell nor heaven." Mercy said this and began to laugh.

"Oh, so you're planning to erase that spirit completely. But listen, first I will try to bring her under my control and send her to hell. And if she refuses and attacks me, then you can do whatever you want with her." Michael said, looking toward the house.

"As you say, Michael." Mercy replied with a small smile.

Meanwhile, while watching the movie, Stephanie kept checking her phone again and again. Seeing her do that, Lily became irritated and said, "Stephanie, you're not even watching the movie properly, yet you're saying it's good. If you just want to use your phone, tell us—then we can all leave the hall."

"Lily, I am using my phone, but my full focus is still on the movie. It's just that I was…." Stephanie suddenly went quiet mid-sentence.

"What happened, Stephanie? Is everything alright?" Claire asked, noticing her worry.

But Stephanie shook her head, saying nothing, and began watching the movie again. Claire assumed Stephanie must be expecting an important call, which was why she was anxious, and for that reason Claire and Lily didn't pay much attention to it.

On the other side, the situation inside the mental asylum had worsened drastically, and as Christopher and Jennifer were hiding inside a cupboard, having sex, its door suddenly swung open. Seeing this, both of them screamed, thinking that Emma's spirit—now inside Sarah's body—had found them. But they sighed in relief when they saw Robin standing there.

"If the two of you are done satisfying each other's bodies, you can come out of the cupboard now." Robin said, turning his eyes away from them.

Being caught by Robin while having sex left both of them embarrassed, and after quickly putting on their clothes, they stepped out of the cupboard.

"Jenni, tell me who Emma is and why she's after you?" Robin asked Jennifer in a stern tone.

"Are you crazy, Robin? Or has our breakup shaken your mental balance? How am I supposed to know who Emma is?" Jennifer said irritably.

"I told Robin the same thing—that none of us know who Emma is." Amily said, supporting Jennifer's statement.

But Robin wasn't convinced by what they were saying, so he insisted, "Look, maybe you people don't know, but someone in my family knows everything about spirits, and he once told me that if any soul wants to take a human's life, there is always a reason behind it. So Emma's spirit won't try to kill all of you without a reason."

Saying this, Robin suddenly signaled everyone to stay quiet, because Emma's spirit inside Sarah's body was wandering through the 8th-floor hallway, singing the same eerie song again.

"I'm really scared here… I shouldn't have come here listening to all of you," Amily said, crying and pointing toward Jennifer.

"We didn't force you. You came here because you were greedy for that prize money we were supposed to get after shooting the video," Jennifer said to Amily in an insulting tone.

"Will you both shut up? If you're so angry and so eager to fight, then go outside and fight that spirit. At least that will give me and Christopher a chance to escape from here," Robin whispered sharply.

Just then, Sarah appeared at the room's doorway and suddenly spoke in a deep, terrifying voice, "What happened, friends? Are you hiding here and thinking you can escape from me?"

A chilling silence spread across the room, and Christopher and Jennifer immediately rushed back into the same cupboard to hide, but Robin and Amily were trapped where they stood. There was no other hiding place, and Sarah—meaning Emma's spirit—was blocking the door. Robin and Amily could neither hide nor escape the room.

Then Robin's eyes fell on an old, broken table kept nearby. He whispered softly to Amily, "Amily, go and hide behind that table. I'll try to draw the spirit's attention toward me. When she focuses on me, you run out of the room."

Hearing Robin's instructions, Amily quickly slipped behind the table, and Robin positioned himself behind the door. The next moment, the door swung open and Sarah stood there, growling furiously. Her hair had fallen entirely over her face, and only her blood-red eyes were visible—making her appearance even more terrifying.

From behind the table, Amily peeked cautiously toward Sarah, who was scanning every corner of the room, her creepy laughter echoing through the space. Seeing this, Amily grew even more terrified and shut her eyes tightly, praying to Jesus to save her life. But suddenly she felt someone's hot breath on the right side of her face, and when she opened her eyes, she saw Sarah's horrifying face right there—those same bloody red eyes staring directly at her.

Amily screamed loudly and ran toward the door, but Emma's spirit inside Sarah grabbed her leg and began dragging her across the floor. Inside the cupboard, Christopher and Jennifer could hear every sound of what was happening outside, and with each passing moment, their heartbeats grew faster.

But at that very moment, Robin jumped out from behind the door to save Amily and challenged the spirit inside Sarah, shouting, "So you show your strength by attacking a weak girl? If you have courage, then fight me instead!"

Saying this, Robin threw his torch directly at Sarah's head, causing Emma's spirit to lose balance and fall. Amily's leg slipped out of her grip, and Robin immediately told her to run. Then Robin and Amily rushed toward the lower floor, and in furious rage, Sarah ran after them.

Meanwhile, the situation had grown tense in the house where Michael and Mercy had come to punish the spirit, because there wasn't just one woman's soul there—several spirits were present, haunting the place because this house had been built on top of a graveyard.

"Mercy, who told you there was only one spirit here?" Michael asked, quickly pulling out his spell book as Mercy fought off the spirits surrounding them.

"Who else would tell me, Michael? Gandolf—the registrar of hell—told me. But once we clear this house of these spirits and step outside, I'm going straight to hell to cut off that Gandolf's head. The bastard told me about one spirit and threw us right into a whole tribe of them." Mercy answered while slicing a spirit cleanly in half.

"Just hold them off for a while, Mercy. I'll look for a spell that can trap all the spirits in this house at once," Michael said as he rapidly flipped through the pages of his spell book.

Thus, Michael and Mercy were now trapped among countless spirits, and far away in hell, Gandolf—the registrar—was watching them through a crystal ball, extremely pleased. Perhaps he had some personal grudge against Michael, which was why he had sent him here with incomplete information. Michael couldn't be killed, but Mercy's blade was a weapon capable of killing even Lucifer himself. And Michael knew very well that any blade powerful enough to kill Lucifer could also slice his soul apart. If any of the spirits managed to snatch Mercy's blade and attack them with it, both of them would certainly die—and that was exactly what Gandolf wanted.

But the situation inside the mental asylum had become even worse, because Robin's attack on Sarah had enraged Emma's spirit inside her body, and now she wanted to kill Robin first without wasting a single moment. Robin and Amily were running hand-in-hand through the corridors of the 7th floor, but because of Emma's powers, they couldn't find the stairs leading down.

"Robin, this is Adam's phone—the one that was live-streaming," Amily said, pointing to the phone in Robin's hand.

"Yeah, I don't know where my phone fell while running, so I picked up Adam's so I could call someone if I got the chance. But your friend turned out to be ridiculously stingy despite being so rich—he's only put a data pack on this phone, and there's no balance for calling." Robin said angrily while running.

"That's because Adam used two phones, and since this phone's camera is good, he only used it for recording videos." Saying this, Amily pointed to a direction where the stairs leading down were visible.

Both of them ran in that direction, but they had no idea that everything happening to them was still being live-streamed—Robin had forgotten to turn it off.

Meanwhile, during the movie, Stephanie suddenly rushed out of the lounge, and Claire and Lily followed her out.

"What happened, Stephanie? Why did you suddenly walk out in the middle of the movie when you said you were enjoying it?" Claire asked, surprised by Stephanie leaving so abruptly.

"Stephanie, what is it? You have to tell us. Maybe we can help you," Lily insisted firmly.

"Guys… my stepbrother is in trouble, and I have to go save him," Stephanie said while pressing the elevator button.

"Your stepbrother? But you're your mom's only daughter, right? And as far as Claire and I know, you don't have any siblings," Lily asked, shocked.

"I'll tell you everything in the car. Right now, we have to go to a mental asylum where my brother and some of his friends were performing a ritual to summon a spirit," Stephanie said, stepping into the elevator.

"What??" Claire almost shouted in shock after hearing this. "So you're telling me that your brother—whose life we're risking ourselves for at 11 p.m. in the night, going somewhere we have no idea about—is mentally insane."

Stephanie didn't respond, and all three girls rode the elevator down toward the parking lot where her Ford Mustang was parked.

Meanwhile, when Robin and Amily reached the part of the corridor where they thought they had seen the stairs, their souls trembled—because there were no stairs at all. Instead, Sarah was hanging upside down on the wall, staring at them with her bloody red eyes, her creepy laughter shaking the entire building.

"Jenni, I think that spirit has gone after Robin and Amily. We should get out and go up to the higher floors. Maybe we'll find something there that can help us escape," Christopher whispered to Jennifer.

"Yes, okay. I think that's the right thing to do. But… didn't Robin come down from the upper floor just now?" Jennifer asked.

"Just because he didn't find anything doesn't mean we won't. We'll go to the top floor. There must be a manual lift up there—the kind they use while constructing buildings to bring materials up. We'll use that to get down," Christopher said, slowly opening the cupboard door and glancing around carefully.

Once he confirmed the spirit was no longer there, he signaled Jennifer to step out. Both of them left the room and hurried upstairs. When they reached the 9th floor, Christopher stopped and began searching for something.

"Have you completely lost it, Christopher? What are you looking for?" Jennifer asked angrily.

"I'm looking for Adam's phone—the one he was using for the live stream. Once we get out of this building, we can at least win the prize money because of that video," Christopher said while scanning the area.

But the very next moment, Jennifer grabbed Christopher's hand and pulled him toward the upper floor, and Christopher also realized that if they survived, they could always earn money again—but if they died, money wouldn't bring them back.

Meanwhile downstairs, Robin and Amily had already become trapped in the web Emma's spirit had created.

"Robin, run from here!" Amily yelled, pulling Robin's hand as she sprinted backward. And the faster Robin and Amily ran, the faster Emma's spirit—inside Sarah's body—crawled across the walls, chasing them with inhuman speed. The sight was so terrifying that the viewers watching the livestream froze in shock, convinced that Robin and Amily wouldn't survive and that Emma's spirit inside Sarah's body would tear them both into pieces.

Some panicked viewers even called 911, but the police thought it was just a prank by some high school students, because Adam had gotten permission to enter the building by telling the police they were shooting a prank video. But the police had no idea that a video that had begun as a prank had turned into a deadly survival game—where one player's decapitated, blood-soaked body was already lying in the 9th-floor corridor.

Meanwhile, Michael and Mercy were being overwhelmed badly by the spirits inside the house. Mercy could no longer handle the combined attack of all the spirits at once, and Michael still hadn't been able to find any spell in his spell book.

At that moment, in two different places, two different groups were facing their own deaths—and none of them had any idea what would happen in the next moment.
