Chapter 18 - First Born

Sigurd then remembered the comic story of the Angels, to whom Odin gave a contract to spy on Asgard's enemies, but they betrayed him, leading to him casting them out of the Nine Realms.

Given the present time and Odin's nature, he might have already paid the Angels to spy on both the Dark Elves and the Frost Giants.

Sigurd looked toward Odin, then his eyes moved toward Frigga. If the timeline was correct, then Odin's first child would be in danger due to his carelessness. But how did the Queen of the Angels enter Asgard? After all, even in the comics, it wasn't explained.

His second doubt was whether the first child of Odin and Frigga would be Hela, Queen of Hel, or Aldrif Odinsdottir.

Sigurd looked at the situation and then shook his head. Right now, the primary question was whether to stop Odin from making a deal with the Angels or to let events proceed as in the comic or movie timeline.

If he changed the timeline, there would be a butterfly effect, especially since the Nine Realms were going to war after the Angels betrayed Asgard.

Sigurd thought of the important things Asgard held, and then he knew what the reason for the Angels' betrayal would be: the Casket of Ancient Winters, a relic and weapon of the Frost Giants, captured by the Einherjar of Asgard and sealed in the vault.

Thinking of this, Sigurd couldn't help but want to know how much the Frost Giants had paid the Angels to steal it from the Asgardian vault.

Sigurd listened to everyone talking about plans for their enemies, but he wasn't interested. After all, he knew that even if he wanted to change a few things, he couldn't, as the Nine Realms war was crucial for the future development of Midgard.

Although the comics didn't explain it, a lot of powerful people left the Nine Realms to stay on Midgard just to stay far away from the war.

The meeting was over, and Odin walked with Sigurd.

"What's your plan, Sigurd? Are you staying on Asgard, or will you be going on a journey?"

Sigurd heard the question. At first, his plan was to look for a planet with a battlefield, but now he didn't think he needed to wait long to see a war. If nothing changed, the Angels would definitely betray them in a few centuries, so why go on a journey and be caught off guard?

"Brother, I won't be going on an adventure for a few hundred years. I want to hone my skills. Besides, Eitri has already said that he will prepare a weapon for Asgard defense, so I need to be present to inscribe the runes on it. After all, I need to learn more rune magic deeply to use it without any limitations."

Odin looked at his brother and thought for a few seconds.

"Yes, that will also be good. At least I won't have to worry about Asgard when you are here yourself."

Then he thought of something.

"So you should be going to Vanir territory to take care of your sister-in-law."

Sigurd looked at his brother with surprise.

"So you finally think your wife is important as well. I thought you forgot about that."

Frigga looked at Odin, only to see his expression as stoic as ever, but she knew his outer look was for other people. He was the person who cared about his family more than anyone.

Then she turned toward Sigurd.

"Of course your brother cares about me; otherwise, how would his life be so peaceful?"

Sigurd looked at his sister-in-law, then at his brother's proud face; he couldn't help but sigh that even married people had their own way of showing love.

"You guys have been married for decades; can't you be less lovey-dovey?"

Then Sigurd looked at Odin. "We will be going to Vanaheim."

Sigurd and Frigga both came to the Bifrost.

"Sigrun, send us to Vanaheim."

With a flash, Sigurd and Frigga disappeared from the Rainbow Bridge.

"Welcome back, Princess Frigga. Welcome, youngest prince of Asgard, Sigurd Borson."

Vanir warriors were at the main gate of the Vanir city with Freyr, King of Vanir, and his sister, Freya.

Sigurd was behind his sister-in-law; after all, his job was to follow her instructions, not to lead.

"Father."

"Aunt."

Frigga walked toward her father and her aunt, with Sigurd following them into the meeting hall of Vanir.

Sigurd looked toward the gods and goddesses of Vanir. Among them, he didn't know many, but among all the goddesses, the Nine Goddesses were the mother of Heimdall.

Frigga looked toward everyone on the council and then spoke.

"Father, according to the wish of the God-King of the Aesir and my father-in-law, he wants Vanir warriors to participate in the selection of a guardian to protect the Bifrost. So he especially sent me and my brother-in-law to convey the message."

The King of Vanir, Freyr, and the remaining people on the council looked at Sigurd for a response. After all, they thought of Frigga as their own, so they needed a valid response from an Asgardian to make their decision.

Sigurd looked at his sister-in-law, then thought it might be because his father sent him here to accompany her.

"What my sister-in-law said is the words of my father, the great God-King. As for me coming here, it is to protect my sister-in-law, or you could say I am her bodyguard, instructed by my father and brother. The decision for the guardianship candidate from Vanir will be in the hands of my sister-in-law, so please don't look at me like that."

Then Sigurd looked at Frigga with a smile, as if saying, "I am a bodyguard; don't mix me into this matter."

Frigga looked at Sigurd, who had thrown the responsibility to her, but she couldn't say she disliked it. At least she knew Sigurd was showing how Asgard valued her, which also made the bond between the two clans stronger.

Freyr looked at his daughter and the youngest prince of Asgard; he couldn't help but feel happy that his daughter was treated as an important person in Asgard.

So Freyr looked at his daughter and then asked.

"Frigga, now it depends on you whom you are going to select as the candidate from Vanir."

Frigga looked at the faces of everyone in the council, most of whom were expecting to be selected. After all, the Bifrost was one of the most powerful weapons in the Nine Realms, which could help people travel as well as destroy anything, even a planet.

"I know everyone present in the council, and I have a proper idea of everyone's power as well as their demerits. So I will choose the person who will be the most suitable candidate to represent Vanir. After all, the candidate will also represent the face of Vanir, as well as fulfill the task my father-in-law gave me, as the future Queen of Asgard, to test my judgment."

Frigga then looked at her father. "So I ask my father, as well as the Nine Goddesses, to let Heimdall represent Vanir."

Freyr looked at his daughter with pride, as he knew Heimdall had a distinct advantage to be the guardian. He knew his daughter wanted to complete this task with Heimdall's victory as guardian of the Bifrost.

Just when everyone was in their thoughts, a loud clap was heard. They looked toward the sound and saw Sigurd clapping.

"Sister-in-law, let's say this time brother will surely lose to the candidate you have selected."

Sigurd couldn't help but laugh when he thought of teasing his brother when his candidate lost the competition.

Frigga, hearing Sigurd's words, couldn't help but twitch her face. She knew her husband was going to be laughed at by Sigurd again for a long time for losing. She couldn't help but think how Sigurd knew about the power of Heimdall, whom he had only seen a few times.
