Standing outside the guild's entrance, I scouted for potential candidates. I yawned and rubbed my eyes.
Sleepiness was ingrained into my blood right after I came into this world. Even in the orphanage, I was laughed at by my 'friends' because I always slept more than 12 hours. In a way, it wasn't healthy... but you can't hold that against me. I am a lazy person through and through. But a woman has to eat, right?
So, sometimes I work... and therefore, I am standing outside the guild's entrance.
The adventurers who passed by my side, threw me dirty looks as if I was a dung beetle. They whispered among themselves, probably badmouthing me. But do I care?
Nope.
Not at all.
I am too lazy to care about their badmouthings.
"You shouldn't stand here, blocking people's path. What is wrong with you, Alex?" A very annoying voice entered my ears.
Phillip Wustace was one of the top adventurers of the guild. There are five parties which are considered top-tier. Phillp and Christina are the leaders of the two out of five top-tier guilds. But unlike Christina, who always likes to pick on me, Phillip was somehow decent.
"Beats me. I like to make things harder for me. A woman needs some challenges, doesn't she? You should just ignore me," I shrugged. Two years ago, I made a mistake by sleeping with him. Since then, he constantly butts in into my personal space, trying to establish a romantic relationship between us.
"Alex, do you have to be so difficult? If you want, you can join the guild. I am the leader of 'The Yorkt.' You can easily join my team," said Phillip.
I rubbed my head and snorted, "I don't need special treatment. Besides, I don't like your guild... and that's that... by some extension, I don't like people who work for the guild. I am afraid of them."
Phillip's face turned pale. He tried to touch me, but I dodged and took a step back.
"I also don't like clingy people. So, would be kind enough to ignore me and walk away?" I asked him.
He opened his mouth for a second before closing and gritting his teeth. Throwing an exasperated look, he walked away.
I sighed and took a deep breath. Phillip likes me, and I know that very well. But why does he even like me? If he did, then why ignore me back then?

"Hey! No need to go to this guild for menial tasks. I, the president of 'Factotum Alexandra' can do this for a considerably lower price! Hey, customer! Listen to me!" Alexandra yelled. She was holding a placard which said, 'Factotum Alexandra' with a photo of her.
She thought by doing this a lot of customers would be swarming around her, fighting among themselves to recruit her.
Waving the placard, she yelled, "Hey! Aren't I telling you that I can do whatever this guild does for a very low price?! Why are you ignoring me?!" Her voice was full of anger. Why were these people looking at her if they didn't want to recruit her? She glared at them angrily.
The people, who were looking at her, ran away as soon as she glared at them. They didn't want to be beaten down by her.
Suddenly, Alexandra spotted a very familiar woman. Upon looking at her closely, it was the same ugly girl... 'Jenni.' That was her name, right? Wait, now that she remembered... she hadn't returned her broom.
"Oi, are you here for the broom? If you want it back, then 'no.' It's fine now."
Jenni looked at her blankly.
Broom?
What broom?
Why couldn't this woman behave properly for once?
Jenni resisted her urge to beat her down and snarled, "I am not here for the broom!"
"Oh, then why are you here? Wait! Are you coveting my beauty?! Look, I am not going to date you even if you have worn better clothes this time. You are too ugly, and your glasses are big. Sometimes I think that you are worn by your glasses," Alexandra took a step back in fear, "I am joking, aren't I? You are not a ghost, are you?!"
'Maybe she is a ghost in form of glasses, and that ugly girl is possessed by it. Honestly, that girl has no presence but those glasses... they certainly have a profound presence.'
A vein appeared on Jenni's forehead. Her face was contorted in anger. She yelled, "WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU SAYING?! I WILL KILL YOU! I WILL RIP ALL OF YOUR ORANGE HAIR AND STUFF THAT INTO YOUR CORPSE!"
"Ahhh! Ghost!"
"I AM NOT A GHOST!!"

"Okay, you are not a ghost. But do you have to throw your shoes at me?" Alexandra pouted. Her both cheeks had a shoe print on it.
Jenni shot her a venomous glare and tied up her shoelaces. Why did her brother have to suggest that she should work for her? And why did she even entertain the idea of possibly working for this infuriating woman?
"So, you want to work me?" asked Alexandra.
Jenni nodded, "Yes, I want to."
"Why don't you work at the guild then? Why work for me?"
"I tried but they said that I was too weak to work for them."
"Well, they are correct."
"What?!"
Alexandra raised her hands in surrender. "I am not mocking you... but you are weak. If you weren't weak, then why did you to try to recruit adventurers to fight against those goons? You should have done it yourself then."
Jenni stilled for a moment before lowering her head.
"Well, if you want to work for me, you can but I can't afford another person to stay at my house. Also, the wages would be irregular."
Jenni looked up at Alexandra in shock. She never thought Alexandra would agree so easily. With a smile, she said, "It's fine! I have my own place! As for the wages, I can manage. We just need to work harder in order to attract more customers!"
Alexandra scratched her nose awkwardly. Did she accidently shoot her own foot by recruiting her? This woman looked extremely excited.
"Um, are you the one called 'Alexandra?' They said that you work for people at lower price. Can you help me?" A new voice interrupted their conversation.
