Chapter 27 - Breakfast and plans

Giyuu hurries out of the room, hearing Sanemi's laughter echo behind him. He heads downstairs to start breakfast, trying to compose himself before facing the children. Nezuko and Muichiro are already stirring as Giyuu approaches their rooms. They rub their eyes sleepily.

"Giyuu-san? Is it time for school already?"

Giyuu smiles gently at them.

"Yes, sweetie. Time to get up and eat breakfast."

Nezuko stretches and yawns, while Muichiro nods silently. Both children follow Giyuu downstairs to the kitchen.

"I'm making pancakes today. Would you like some?"

Nezuko eyes lighting up.

"Yes, please! With chocolate chips?"

Muichiro nods again, still half-asleep.

"Of course. Go wash up while I get started."

The smell of pancakes starts filling the house as Giyuu begins cooking, humming softly to himself. Sanemi eventually joins them in the kitchen, freshly showered but still looking disheveled from their earlier interaction. Sanemi sniffs the air.

"Smells good. You're spoiling them, Giyuu."

Giyuu glances at Sanemi, noticing his damp hair and smirks.

"Maybe I'm just spoiling myself by making breakfast."

Sanemi walks behind Giyuu, wrapping his arms around his waist and whispering.

"Or maybe you're just trying to butter me up after leaving me hanging."

Tanjiro enters the kitchen, looking slightly concerned as he sees Sanemi holding Giyuu.

"Good morning everyone. Is everything okay?"

Giyuu quickly moves away from Sanemi, feeling Tanjiro's gaze.

"Yes, Tanjiro. Everything's fine. Go help your sister set the table."

Sanemi scowls at Tanjiro's interruption but doesn't say anything, busying himself with making coffee instead. Tanjiro nods and heads to the dining area, sensing the tension.

"Sure thing."

The kitchen becomes quiet again as the family prepares for breakfast. Sanemi keeps stealing glances at Giyuu, while Giyuu focuses intently on flipping pancakes. The rest of the kids gradually come down, and breakfast begins. Sanemi sits at the table, occasionally brushing his foot against Giyuu's under the table.

"So, Tanjiro... about yesterday..."

Tanjiro looks up from his food, a bit nervous.

"Yes, Sanemi-san?"

Sanemi leans forward, his expression serious.

"You know what you did wrong. Don't let it happen again."

Giyuu gives Sanemi a warning look.

"Sanemi, let's not start the day with scolding."

Sanemi sighs heavily but hears on his boyfriend.

"Fine. But I'm watching you, kid."

"I understand. I'll do better."

The atmosphere remains slightly tense as everyone continues eating. Giyuu tries to change the subject.

"So, what do you all have planned for today?"

"I go on a date with Genya and Inosuke."Sanemi chokes on his coffee.

"A DATE?! With those two idiots?!"

"One of the them your brother and don't call him an idiot."

Sanemi glares at Muichiro.

"That's even worse! And I can call him whatever I want."

Giyuu puts a hand on Sanemi's arm.

"Calm down, Sanemi. Let them have fun."Sanemi grumbles under his breath but doesn't argue further, clearly not happy about it

Muichiro smirks slightly at Sanemi's reaction.

"We're just going to the arcade. Nothing serious."

"The arcade better be the only place they go."

Nezuko giggles looking up to Sanemi.

"Sanemi-san is such a protective brother for both of them!"

Sanemi shoots Nezuko a glare too.

"I'm not protective. I just know those two troublemakers."

Giyuu smiles softly, finding Sanemi's overprotectiveness endearing.

"Sure, whatever you say. And what will you do after class, Tanjiro?"

"I'm going to help Zenitsu with his homework and then study for the upcoming math test."

Sanemi perks up at the mention of math.

"You better study hard, Tanjiro. I'll be checking your answers later."

Tanjiro nervously laughs while Giyuu pats Tanjiro's shoulder encouragingly.

"Yes, sir. I'll make sure to get full marks."

"You'll do great. You're a smart kid."

"Thank you, Giyuu-san."

Sanemi finishes his breakfast and stands up:

"Everyone, hurry up. School starts in an hour."

The children quickly finish their food, while Sanemi watches them with a stern expression. The kids rush to get ready, leaving Sanemi and Giyuu alone in the kitchen again. Sanemi wraps his arms around Giyuu from behind again.

"I'll drive the kids today. You can finish your coffee."

"Okay, we will see us my first class is at 9."Sanemi kisses Giyuu's neck.

"See you later then, teach. Don't forget about our date after school."

"Date?"

Sanemi pulls away with a sly grin.

"Don't act dumb. I'm taking you to that new restaurant downtown."

"I know I am a bit forgettable but I am sure you didn't tell me."

Sanemi shrugs finding it a bit amusing.

"It's a surprise. You're always busy with those kids and training. I thought you needed a break."

He grabs his keys and jacket, looking pleased with himself.

"Plus, I know how much you love surprises. Even if you pretend not to."

Giyuu looks at him with a mix of annoyance and affection.

"You're impossible."

"And you love that about me too."

He winks and heads towards the door where the kids are waiting.

"Let's go, brats! Giyuu, text me when you're done with your class."

The kids pile into the car, waving goodbye to Giyuu. Sanemi gives him one last lingering look before driving off. Giyuu watches them leave, shaking his head with a small smile. He finishes his coffee and heads to his classroom, already looking forward to the end of the day. At school, Sanemi drops the kids off and immediately goes to his own classroom, mentally preparing for the day ahead.

He's in a good mood despite his usual grumpy demeanor. The students notice Sanemi's unusual cheerfulness and whisper among themselves as they enter his class.

"Why is Mr. Shinazugawa smiling?"

"Is the world ending?"

"Maybe he won the lottery."

Sanemi hears their comments and scowls at them, though his eyes still have a hint of amusement.

"Quiet down and get to your seats! And no talking about my personal life!"

The students quickly scatter to their desks, but some still steal glances at him. Sanemi opens his textbook and starts writing equations on the board. A girl whispers to another student.

"I bet he's got a secret girlfriend."

Sanemi's ears perk up at the word 'girlfriend,' and he turns around sharply.

"I can hear you, idiot. Focus on the lesson or you'll be doing extra homework!"

Sanemi is muttering under his breath.

"It's not a girl."
