Mei grit her teeth. Annoying this guy never missed a beat, always quick with a comeback. What was she supposed to say back? She huffed. "So… are you going to eat or not?"
Without hesitation Otis replied, "I'll eat."
Mei flashed a V with her fingers and shook them at him. "Yeah…"
Otis watched her silently. She was back to playing cute again.
He knew why Mei was treating him: he'd once given her a skincare set, and she kept things like that in her heart. That was just who Mei was she remembered everything that mattered and sometimes forgot the small stuff, but favors and gestures? She remembered every last one. Otis suspected she kept a little record of them somewhere maybe in a notes app rather than a paper diary. Sure enough, she had a long list of tiny entries:
"April 2 — Otis gave me a rose. Red. First time someone gave me flowers. I loved it."
"May 7 — Otis gave me a ring. Said it was a pair! So cute."
