A vein twitched on Otis's forehead. Why did it feel like she'd gotten even more rebellious since their breakup?
She used to have long flowing hair, energetic but mostly gentle, soft, affectionate, even clingy. Now she had these sudden bursts of mischievous chaos.
Otis leaned his chin on his hand, studying her. Mei noticed the puzzled expression and sat up. "What? Is there something on my face?"
"I was just wondering," Otis said, "does breaking up really change a person's personality?"
Ah so that was it. Mei widened her eyes. "I've always been like this when I was with you, idiot."
She hopped off the couch, flung her arms open dramatically, then turned back to him. "Anyway, I'm treating you tomorrow. I'll pick the place. Your only job is to eat. We leave at three. Any objections?"
Otis shook his head. "Nope."
It was just dinner… yet it felt oddly like a date.
