The sun shone bright over the city of Tokyo, and on top of an apartment was a tiny shed that looked over the busy streets. Inside the shed, a boy could be seen laying down on an old futon, with a cat curled up next to it.
The boy felt something curled up in his arms, and when he opens his eyes, he sees a tiny figure quietly sleeping. The boy involuntarily smiles and puts a blanket on top of her.
He then thinks about how the two met, when he was lost and had nowhere to go. It was quite the rainy day, and all the boy had was the clothes he came with, a jacket, some bread, and two bottles of water. He went to a nearby alley to find some shelter from the rain for some reason, however what he instead found was a group of people. The boy heard punches being thrown and thought that there was a fight going on, so he sneaked closer to see if he could scavenge any loot from the bodies. What he did not realize was that the men were actually beating up a small girl. As he got closer, he could hear a muffled cry coming from within the group, and the boy saw a small girl, likely around the age of 6, getting beaten up by these men.
He heard one of them saying, "Damn, this little bitch thought that she could escape from us."
The man next to him said, "I know right, like what was she thinking, stealing from us."
As the men kept kicking and punching the little girl, the boy did not know what to do, as he wanted to save the poor little girl, however these men were twice the size of him and there were at least a dozen of them and would certainly die if he fought them.
However, he could not leave the poor, bloody girl to die, so he decided to confront the men.
"Hey! Leave the girl alone!" the boy yelled at the group of men.
The men stopped and turned around and saw the the boy. One man questioned, "Are my eyes decieving me, or is that a fucking middle schooler?"
"I think that actually is a middle schooler, cause ain't no way in hell is any human as small as that." another man replied back.
"Hey kid! Get your ass out of here, this is none of your business! If you want to live, you better get moving!" one of them said.
The kid did not respond or run away, however he instead got into a fighting stance.
"Is this kid serious? Does he really think he can even take one of us?" a man remarked, smiling. He then approached the kid, and then the kid felt a stinging feeling in his ribs. The man then threw another punch which connected with the boy's jaw, causing the boy to spit out blood from the mouth. However, to the man's suprise, the boy counterattacked, and before he knew it, the man collapsed to the ground.
The other men were shocked, however they soon regained their composure and took out their knives. They then charged at the boy, however unsettlingly, they saw the boy with a terrifying smile on his face.
Rain pour even more heavily, and out of the dozen men that were in the alley, only one was left alive. As the boy approached the last man, the man became even more frightened and threw the knife at the boy, which completely missed. The boy had an even more terrifying smile on his face now, almost as if he was the damn devil. The boy also had a horrifying aura around him, and before the man could scream, the boy slashed his neck, causing blood to come gushing out. As the man held his neck and bled out, the boy approached the tiny girl, who was barely breathing. The boy picked up the girl with his bloody hands and covered her up with his jacket, and then tried to find some sort of shelter to hide from the rain.
As the boy was walking down a different alley, he suddenly heard the tiny girl cough weakly, and sped up to try and find shelter. After a few moments later, the boy found a run-down building and decided to take shelter there. He carefully set the girl onto an old couch and looked around and tried to find anything that could help warm the girl up. He found some old blankets and pillows and used those to cover the girl and to make it more comfortable for her to rest. Afterwards, he tried to feed her some bread, however it seems as if the girl had fallen fast asleep, so he went to wash himself off. There were no washrooms, so he had to use the rainwater that was piling up in a bucket outside to cleanse himself from the blood from the battle earlier. He then went back inside, still drenched in rain, and laid down on the floor to take a nap.
The next day, he woke up to the sound of the girl groaning in pain, her voice sounding rasp. He quickly took a water bottle and tried to give it to her, however it seems as if she had a hard time drinking it, as if she had forgotten how to drink water. After many failed attempts, he finally got her to drink some water, which helped clear the raspy voice. She still was groaning in pain, so he took a look at her injuries. The bruises were starting to turn black, meaning that it was healing, which was surprising with the beating she got. However, the ribs seemed to be fractured, so he placed her on her back and put a pillow under her head.
It took about four months for the ribs to fully heal, and during that time, the boy scavenged for food and water, sometimes resorting to stealing, to assist in the recovery of the girl. The boy spent most of his time, however, in helping the girl recover, continuously replacing the towel on her forehead with some of the towels he found nearby, as the girl somehow caught a fever during this time. It was lucky that this happened in spring, as if it happened during the fall season, the girl certainly would have died.
