Chapter 25 - Chapter 25: Trying to Be a Deadbeat?

As Utako Asada invested a total of 200,000 points into various betting options, and with the endorsement of the Katsuragi and Kōenji Conglomerates on the website, the remaining hesitant students also joined the frenzy.

The betting only covered the First-Year section this time. The target audience included not just second- and third-year students, but also the staff and faculty. Everyone was excited.

Out of the three options on the website, the first option (transferring to Class A) was useless to the staff. However, the second and third options offered excellent benefits.

Furthermore, the website clearly stated that anyone who placed a bet could participate in the final lucky winner drawing, an algorithm that made everyone want to throw in some points.

What if I'm the lucky winner?

There were also some wealthy "investors" who started seriously studying the odds to try and profit. They didn't mind the ten percent fee the platform would take from the winners' earnings.

The rules clearly stated that while the lucky winner was chosen randomly by the computer, the more you bet, the greater the chance of being selected.

The betting options were not the only source of excitement; the small exchange window also drew attention.

Why were these staff members working here? Was it for love? Nonsense.

Since Advanced Nurturing High School was a closed campus, jobs that required employees to cut contact with their families were always difficult to fill. The school was forced to offer much higher salaries, which eventually attracted applicants.

The staff's salaries were paid in points. At best, the school only promised to exchange the points for the equivalent yen upon resignation.

With this website, everyone now had a way to exchange currency directly, with the convenience of home delivery.

Who wouldn't want to send money home and tell their family they were doing well?

Second Year, Class A.

Bang!

Miyabi Nagumo, who usually looked calm and successful, slammed his fist onto the desk, his face pale with rage.

"Damn it! Damn it! Damn it!" Nagumo roared.

The text message had, of course, reached the phones of all second-year students. Looking at the 20 million point plan on the website, and comparing it to Nagumo's own scheme, they quickly chose Ren's method.

They all gathered together and thought... Why risk getting picked by that old pervert Nagumo to transfer to Class A? Was it possible without gifts and flattery?

Compared to that, the website offered transparency, a chance to earn money, and a random drawing for the transfer. Any option was better than Nagumo's plan.

Three people can act like a mastermind, let alone three entire classes.

I pitch the plan, you bring the people... wait, I also have points tied up with Nagumo. I need to bring people, too.

That's how all the students from the other three second-year classes who had joined Nagumo's transfer scheme showed up. They pressured Nagumo, demanding their points back.

Nagumo, who had received such a huge sum, hadn't saved the points. Money needs to circulate to earn extra income.

Nagumo was utterly shocked. He didn't have that many points left to pay them back.

"So, Nagumo-kun, are you not planning to return our points?" a tall boy from Second Year Class D asked, cracking his knuckles.

With one person speaking up, the rest of the second-year students who had come to collect their debt also joined in.

"Nagumo-kun, we just want the points that belong to us. You wouldn't refuse to give them back, would you?"

"Or did you embezzle our points?"

"Are you trying to be a deadbeat?"

Second-year students in Classes A and B might have spare points to bet on both sides, but Classes C and D had been living frugally, relying on that small hope of transferring. Nagumo refusing to return the points now was basically ruining their chance of being selected as the lucky winner tomorrow.

As the saying goes, robbing someone's path to wealth is like murdering their parents. That made their words much harsher.

"But we agreed..." A frustrated Nagumo gritted his teeth, putting up a weak fight.

The students sneered. "Agreed? Have you gathered 20 million points? Are you going to select a student randomly and fairly? Vice President Nagumo?"

Everyone knew Nagumo had secretly accepted many bribes and benefited greatly from his scheme. The website gave them a reason to stop listening to him.

"Nagumo-kun, you don't want us to use violence, do you?" The brave student from Class D touched his own neck and made a cracking sound. He didn't mind using violence.

"But that website's plan is the same as mine!" Nagumo's face was completely green. He was furious.

"The same? Do you believe that?"

"We all gave you the same points, and you promised a random transfer for one student."

"But were you truly... fair?"

"Everyone has seen the website. They can choose how much to bet. If they win, they earn points. If they lose, they still get a chance in the drawing. How is that not better than your broken plan?"

Those words stung Nagumo. He was speechless and desperately searched for a way out.

Credibility! Right, the website has no credibility! "They can't be trusted. What if they scam you?" Nagumo argued, acting like a deadbeat looking for excuses not to pay.

The crowd lost their patience. The direct student from Class D grabbed Nagumo's hair, opened his phone to the website, and showed Nagumo the section listing Ren and Kōenji.

He grinned. "The promise of the Katsuragi Conglomerate and the Kōenji Conglomerate isn't trustworthy, but you, a guy who scams others, are?"

Then, he slammed Nagumo's head onto the desk.

He had been angry about eating cheap food all the time, and now he had Nagumo as a punching bag. He wasn't going to be gentle.

The student from Second Year Class D was the only one hitting Nagumo. The students from the other classes watched silently. The Class D students didn't have many points, so they didn't feel bad. In fact, they felt relieved.

No one noticed that a white-haired girl was watching the scene from afar, her expression amused.
