Pearl's POV
This morning,I had a lot of work and assignments to do, and I needed to get to school early. Who knew studying architecture was so hard.
So,I was in the living room, trying to get a few things done while P'Mook was preparing breakfast.
"Pearl, do me a favour and wake B and Cai up," P'Mook said, multitasking like a pro.
"Okay," I replied, setting my things down and heading upstairs.I went to Cai's room first—he was sleeping like a log.
"Hey, stand up," I said, smacking him lightly.
"Oww," he groaned,refusing to move.
"Do you want me to call P'Mook or B instead?" I threatened, and just like magic, he jumped up.
Laughing nervously, he said, "No, don't do that—I'm awake now,"struggling to drag himself to the bathroom.
"Now let me wake B up,"I said to myself.
"She rarely sleeps. She's probably already awake,"Cai mumbled as he stumbled away.
I ignored him and headed to B's room.
The moment I opened the door, she was talking to someone on the phone, pacing while holding up two outfits.
"Will you shut up and tell me what to wear—this or this?"B demanded from the person on the other end.
"How can I choose? They look exactly the same! For once in your life, wear something colorful,"The voice replied.
I stayed quiet, just watching her.Even this early in the morning, she looked stunning.
"Gav, will you help or shut up?" She snapped.
I recognized the voice—it was Gav,her best friend.
"I've known you for years, and you've never spent this much time picking out clothes,"He teased.
"I'm dressing to impress someone,"She said, and I blinked. Who could possibly stress her out like this?
"I wonder who," Gav said. Then he paused."Wait—don't tell me it's Pearl?"
Even I was shocked.
"Even if it is, there's nothing you're going to do about it," she replied smugly.
I love her cockiness.
"Do you like Pearl?"Gav teased again.
"None of your goddamn business," She replied—right before noticing me.
"Holy shit," she muttered, clearly surprised but not scared.
"Can anyone scare you?"I asked, helping her put some clothes back into her closet. She had been on the phone with Gav for four hours, according to the screen.
"You can never scare me.I don't get scared easily," she said with a rare smile. She really did have a beautiful smile.
"You've been talking to Gav for four hours?" I asked, finally organizing the last of her clothes.
"Yeah. I only slept for 30 minutes. He always talks to me when I can't sleep,"She said quietly, and I could tell she cherished him deeply.
I wish she could cherish me like that… stupid thoughts.
"Your mom told me to wake you up," I said, and she paused.
"Why would Mom tell you to wake me up? She knows I have a hard time sleeping, and I'm never late.Even when I am, she sends Cai.So why you?"
"I don't know," I shrugged, noticing how much black she had at her study table.
"I'll be back in a sec," she said, disappearing into the bathroom.
I hoped it would be one of those movie moments where she forgets her towel and asks me to bring it, but I shook the thought away.
Then her phone rang again.
"Pick it up for me!" she called from the bathroom.
Someone named Almond was Face timing her. I picked it up, and—wait—was that Cai?
"Have you finished your bath? You can go downstairs,"I said.
"What are you talking about? Where's B?"He asked.
"Ohhhh, you must think I'm Cai. I'm his twin—Almond," he corrected. I was so shocked I froze.
"Since when do you have another twin?" I asked B.
"Since always," She shouted from the bathroom.
"Don't look so shocked. We may look alike, but we're worlds apart," Almond said as he rummaged through his clothes—exactly like B had earlier.
B finally came out of the bathroom. Her hair was wet, tangled, and she looked like she was losing a battle with it.
"Mon, I should just cut my hair," she grumbled, reaching for scissors.
"Don't cut such long hair. Let me help you," I said quickly, taking the brush from her. Her hair was silky, midnight black, and so soft.
Within minutes, I had it smooth.
"Wow, Pearl, you're so good," she said, genuinely impressed.
"Yeah, yeah—now can you help me pick something to wear? I have a date," Almond finally spoke up.
"With who this time?" B asked.
"Just someone."
"That someone doesn't have a name?" She challenged.
"His name is Jade," Almond replied as he put on his school uniform.
"He has the same name as you," B noted.
"He has a twin. They're unusual—non-identical. The older twin was born December 31st, 2000 at 11:59 PM, and the younger one—Jade—was born January 1st, 2001 at 12:02 AM. Unusual, right?" Almond explained.
"Yeah, but we're more unusual. The older I get, the more I resemble you and Cai," B said while getting dressed.
"We've talked too long. It's someone's bad day today, that's why I'm going to school. I also have an online date later," Almond said, grabbing his empty bag.
"I was about to ask—since when do you go to school?" B said, hanging up before he could reply.
I gave her a look. "Why'd you hang up on your brother like that?"
"It was getting boring. I don't want to hear about his one-night stands," she said, dragging me up. I wanted to sleep more, but she was stronger than me, and I still didn't know how.
When we got to the table, we saw Gav already there. That was fast.
"Seriously, can't you eat at your own house? I'm getting tired of seeing your ugly face all the time," B complained.
"I'm not here for you.And moreover it's lonely there and My world doesn't revolve around you… well, maybe a little. But someone's about to take your place in my heart," Gav said dramatically.
Their friendship was like night and day—and B was definitely the night.
"Wait, don't tell me you like someone?" B asked. "I pity them," she added, biting into an apple.
Gav hesitated.
"What if that person is your brother?" he said before a half-eaten apple landed on his face.
"B!" P'Mook scolded.
"He deserved it, babe. Gav, you can like anyone—but not my brother Jade. He's a playboy. And since when are you gay?"
Did she just call her mom babe? What a strange, funny family.
"Just joking! I don't like any of your brothers… yet. And I just found out I'm gay, so what?" Gav replied, rubbing his head.
I admired their friendship. He came out like it was the most normal thing in the world.
"I wish I had a friendship like yours," I said, sitting next to B.
"You can't. You don't talk much. You're an introverted introvert," Gav teased.
"Since when was that a thing?" I mumbled.
"I know," Cai said, coming downstairs.
"Know what?" Gav and B asked.
"Pearl just thought 'since when was that a thing,'" Cai said.
"That was my thought…" I said, startled.
"I must've heard you… or guessed," Cai said, sitting beside Gav.
Weird. Or… is he getting powers like me? No. I shook off the thought.
P'Mook had the maids serve the food, and even P'Waan came to the table. In Korean culture, if the elders didn't eat first, the younger ones wouldn't.
It was more of a behavior than a rule.
"Waan," P'Mook called.
"What did I do?" P'Waan looked horrified.
"Why are you scared?" She asked.
"Mom, you called him by his name," Gav pointed out.
She just smiled. "I wanted to say something. You're not in trouble."
"Wow, I was already thinking of every possible punishment," B said.
"If you look at the table," P'Mook continued, "we see CaiReel… and PearlB."
That made no sense—none of us understood.
"Wait… are you shipping Gav and Cai? Pearl and B?" P'Waan asked, shocked.
"What?" we all said in unison.
"I totally see it," Jade the driver chimed in.
"What do you mean?" B and Cai stood up, flustered.
"Jade! We have to get to school!" They said, walking away without touching their food.
"If you don't eat now, you won't eat for the next four days," P'Mook warned, and they sat down instantly.
"It's not a bad idea," Gav said, and we all turned to him.
"What? CaiReel sounds good, but PearlVie sounds better," he added.
I was so uncomfortable.
"Gav, if you don't shut up, I will shut you up. How about that?" B said in a dangerously low voice.
"And I'll help," Cai added in the same tone.
"Gav, shut up," I whispered. Breakfast had never been more awkward.
The moment it ended, I bolted to school.
"Easy, girl. Why are you running like you're being chased?" Kate asked, handing me water.
"Will (heavy breathing) you (heavy breathing) believe me if I told you (heavy breathing) Mook is shipping B and me?" I panted.
"First off, who's Mook? Secondly, why are you so stressed about being shipped with B? You get shipped with Derek all the time," Kate said, just as Derek, our third friend, walked over.
She was right. Why was I freaking out?
"Are you serious about that last part?" Derek says, raising an eyebrow as he walks up beside Kate.
"I don't even know anymore," I mumble, still trying to catch my breath.
Kate looks amused. "So let me get this straight—you're not panicking because someone's shipping you with a friend. You're panicking because it's B."
I glance away. "She's not just a friend."
Derek and Kate exchange a quick glance like they both just unlocked a secret level of my mind.
"Interesting," Derek smirks. "So that's why you nearly choked on your apple back there."
"I didn't choke, I just—ugh! Can we not talk about this? It was a weird morning, okay?" I groan, covering my face.
Kate nudges me with her water bottle. "Weird mornings usually mean something's changing."
"She smiled," I blurt out before I can stop myself.
"Who?" Derek and Kate ask in sync.
"B. She actually smiled… and it was beautiful," I say quietly.
For once, neither of them say anything, just quietly watching me like they're waiting for me to process whatever this is.
"I think… I'm screwed," I whisper.
Kate finally grins. "Or maybe you're finally waking up to something real."
Derek just laughs. "This school year's about to get interesting."
Gav's POV
Wednesday,January 25th,2017
I'm in Maths class not like I understand a thing,Maths is just magic anyway.
Finally after the teacher left,And I thought I was about to rest but know just then the vice-president called me,The vice-president of Williams corporation.
I should be the President but I don't have time for that shit right,It isn't a big company,But it isn't small either and we are doing well, they don't need me.
Me:What a good morning I'm having Carlos"Sarcastic tone"
Carlos:I just wanna report this year profits to you know need to sulk in advance.
Me:I don't need to check,You got this.
Carlos:Don't you trust me too much.
Me: Honestly,I don't,It just that,It will take me less that 10 seconds to ruin your life of you betray me.And I have B to do it she's way more ruthless then I am.
He was gobsmacked by my reply,I was bragging I was saying the truth.
Carlos:G-G-G-Got it.
Me: Good.
I hanged up, Frustrated.
"Gav hope you haven't forgotten about Football practice,Coach was swearing he would kick you ass if you missed another session"Laks my friend told me and the class giggled
"As if,Can we talk later?,I need a nap"I replied yawning as I slept, Everything good was peaceful before I smack woke me up,It was our element teacher.
The reason why element is a subject is something I still don't comprehend.
"Williams were you listening at all?"She questioned
I laughed and rubbed my eyes stretched a little"I don't even know when you enter, What's up teach what were we talking about?"I asked her, Everyone was used to my nonchalant attitude already.
She sighed, Clearly tired of me"Werewolves and Vampires"She answered "what do you know about them?"She asked.
"I thought we only had elemental magic"I replied and the who class look at me like I said I was the President of America.
"What last did you attend class,Gav?"Laks asked.
I laughed in return"I don't even remember,But ask me questions I might know, I'm not completely dumb."
She sighed again"You aren't dumb,You the class topper,Anyway do you know how many secondary genders we have?, Explain them and you get extra credits."She dropped like a bomb and my eyes lit up,I've read about this from Books.
I mean fictional books not actual books but it's the thought that counts.Right?
"Alpha, Beta and Omega, Alpha is currently the strongest in a pack,They are strong in appearance and Gene,For example,Cai From Junior year.A Beta,I don't really know what they do,But an Omega is a gift from the moon goddess to us queer people,So that gay Alpha's and Betas could have children of there own with out the need to any human intervention,For example Laks,I read enough werewolf books to know."I explained confidently and my classmates were not shocked,Cause sometimes I feel like my teachers are hell bent on making my life hell, They call me for every single question the have.
I'm not the only person in the class.
"And what would you consider yourself,None,Because you fit no where"Jeff my Nemesis asked and I smiled.
"How do you know I fit nowhere if you don't know how it feels,You must have tested it know I fit there or not"I replied and he was really annoyed.
"But if you must ask I don't know because I'm not a werewolf,I would say Beta, Because I'm better than you and it hurts you"
"You SOB"He replied.
"L.M.C.A.L.Y.D.T.Y.C.O.M.F,I mix Business with pleasure."I replied,And Laks almost choked on his Saliva and the teacher laughed.
"What does that mean?"He asked frustrated
"Let me come and lick your dick till you come on my face"I replied and he almost wanted to tear my head off.
"I'm not a fag like you"He replied.
"Really?"I replied
"Williams and Stockwell detention now"The teacher said trying to hold in her laugh
"Why am I getting detention"Jeff questioned.
"You used downgrading remarks on a classmate"The teacher replied which only angered Jeff more.
