Chapter 25 - Chapter 25: Level 2

Except for the ability to create a weak 'pocket-dimension', the white wraith didn't have any other tricks up its sleeves at all.

It was pushed to the ground by [Desperation Scream] and killed off after a few shockwaves.

The space surrounding Mater and Selina cracked like a mirror.

"You are one scary kitty, Mr. Mater!" Selina sweated.

The black cat lifted his head high with smugness. "Who do you think I am? I am a dark lord after all!"

The illusion shattered. Selina and Mater found themselves returned to the dark Kensington Tunnel. The White Wraith was crushed into four small Chaos Stones on the ground.

Mater opened his mouth wide and sucked in all the stones.

"Four pieces, huh. This wraith is level 2. It has a very unique ability but is weak in both offense and defense. However, for an ordinary human, they would have been driven mad by this wraith." Mater rolled his golden eyes in a thought.

The white wraith was weaker than the green wraith but it had a very powerful ability. Ordinary people might be able to escape from the green wraith. But they could never runaway from the white wraith. Similar to how trapped Selina was if Mater wasn't there.

"So these wraiths have also developed a way to customize their power. Some might be stronger or more resilient. Some might have more unique abilities."

Mater jumped back onto Selina's shoulder. He tapped the scared young woman on the head to comfort her.

"Thank you. But I'm alright now." Selina said. She tried to form a smile but even Mater could see the pale color on her face. The young girl was scared to the bones.

"Right. Right. I believe you. Everything is alright now." Mater meowed in a very patronizing way.

The pair continued on the path of the tunnel. They noticed that the tunnel was much longer than before. This was probably its actual length, now that the influence of the wraith was gone.

On the side of the road was a blue Volvere car.

Selina quickly rushed to the vehicle and shined her flashlight inside. There was a dried corpse sitting in the driver seat.

"Is this Owen Douglas?"

Selina covered her nose. The corpse started decomposing and had the most disgusted smell ever.

Mater jumped into the car and looted the corpse's pockets.

"Watch out, Mr. Mater! The corpse might be possessed!" Selina said.

"There is no Chaos here, woman. Stop talking nonsense!" The black cat meowed back.

After rummaging for a little bit, Mater found the wallet of the deceased. He grabbed it by the mouth and jumped out of the car, showing it to Selina.

"Let's see if there is an ID inside it...

Owen Douglas. This is our missing person for sure. I'm going to call the ACPD to come and clean this up."

Selina dialed Carpenter's phone number.

"Yes? What do you mean another wraith? You already deal with it? The body of the victim is found?

Okay! Okay! Wait there! We're coming!"

Carpenter hung up the phone and stared blankly into clock on the wall. It was almost 10:00 PM. The midnight wasn't even here yet.

"What the hell? Two NCEs in a day? What is this girl doing?"

Carpenter dialed Alister's number on her phone.

"Detective. Are you still awake?

It's me, Carpenter. Miss Isles has just solved another case."

Soon, the police rushed over to the Kensington Tunnel and set up a perimeter around the location.

Alister was still working on some cases in his office when he got the call from Carpenter. Cole and Carpenter were already home but they quickly got dressed and joined him at the crime scene.

They arrived and saw Selina sat on the side of the road with her black cat. Inside her arms was a horrified leathery book.

"We meet again, Miss Isles." Alister approached Selina.

She was dozing off but quickly snapped to attention.

"Detective!" Selina got up and dusted her butt. "I hope I'm not too much of a trouble."

Selina scratched her head. She noticed the disheveled state of which the three policemen were in.

Alister shook his head. "It is part of the job, Miss Isles. You aren't a trouble at all. Rather, we are very impressed by your efficiency. It is only your first day of Bounty Hunting and you already got two of them."

"It is not me. It's all thanks to Mr. Mater here!" Selina lifted up the black cat.

It meowed back in response.

Alister chuckled. "We understand, Miss Isles. But it is your familiar in the end so it is still you.

We will take over from here and retrieve the corpse. We will also notice his family soon. They deserve a closer to his death.

On behalf of his family, I must thank you."

"It is nothing, really..."

"As you are our private contractor already, it is not necessary to take you back to the station for testimony. You can leave, Miss Isles. If we need anything, Carpenter will reach out to you."

Carpenter popped up from behind Alister. "Hi, Selina!"

"Hi, Lucy!" Selina smiled in response. "If that's the case, I will be leaving now. I am tired."

"You should take some rest, Miss Isles."

Selina and Mater exited the crime scene. They found their way back to Selina's house. It was almost midnight when Selina found her way to the bed. Her entire body was sore and tired. Cycling all day had taken its toll.

The goth girl grabbed the black cat without asking its consent and hugged it tightly.

Mater would have protested if it wasn't for the fact that Selina slept topless. The room was rather hot so she needed to peel something off.

The black cat was too much of a pervert to pass on something like that. It stayed with her until she fell asleep and slipped off her embrace.

Mater went to the living room to continue his infusion.

"Four Chaos Stones. These should be enough for me to reach level 2."

Mater lay on the sofa with his belly up. The four spheres spun around his heart, releasing more Chaos into his blood stream.

"1000 kilometers."

"1050 kilometers."

"1100 kilometers."

"1150 kilometers."

Mater successfully reached level 2 of the Chaos Infusion Rank. His entire body trembled because of the ascension.

All of the previous infused blood vessels became slightly thicker and were able to hold more magic. Chaos was more in tune with Mater, allowing him to inscribe one more spell onto the Dark Grimoire.

The black cat called the Dark Grimoire over and flipped to a blank page.

"Now... What kind of spell should I add?"
