Kasaru arrived home later that evening, walking up the stairs to his apartment. He reached into his pockets and pulled out his key chain, it had a cute little emblem of a crow attached to it by a chain. He had to push the handle down a few times for it to finally become undone, he looked inside and went to his mother's room, opening the door to see how she was. He gave a smile as he saw her asleep, closing the door as he quietly moved through the apartment.
They had done the best they could with what was available, and for what it was it was rather nice and clean. Kasaru's bedroom was opposite of hers, with a living room in the middle and a small kitchen area to the side. He undressed and got changed into his casual bed wear. He sighed to himself as he looked out the window, looking at the fading blue sky as he watched birds above fly gracefully in formation.
"Hm."
He made a noise of amusement as he saw them, he sat down on his bed and put his headphones on, listening to some music from his CD player as he focused on trying to work on his powers a little more.
"I need to remember my limits and act on them with honor and understanding." He told himself as he outstretched his arm, he winced a little as jet black feathers were produced along the length of his arm down to his hand, his nails turning into black talons. He breathed deeply and focused, the feathers receded back into his arm and left small pin pricks in it, as well as his nails taking a moment to turn back to normal. He watched how the pin pricks healed a moment after, he flipped his arm and gave it a glance once over, smiling a little with himself.
"That was the best yet, I don't think that'll be useful for dodgeball though. I think I know which ability to use tomorrow, with any hope it will work."
He turned off the lights and took his headphones off, getting into bed as he drifted off to sleep with his fan on for white noise.
There was a small knock at the window of Kasaru's home. One that wouldn't stop, but instead continued over and over. Almost like a banging noise. It was almost horrifying how hard the window was getting banged on, yet..the glass never shattered.
Bang. Bang. Bang. Bang. Bang. Bang. Bang. Bang. Bang.
As soon as the banging had calmed down it turned into scratching. The walls of Kasaru's apartment were being clawed at. Once again, not enough to break anything..but enough to alert somebody.
Kasaru awoke suddenly to the noise, he rubbed his eyes and groaned out heavily. He brushed his bed-hair back as he slowly got up, moving to the window.
"I thought I told you not to beg me for bread at this hour!"
He thought it was one of the many birds that would often visit his house, a majority of the birds in the town identified him due to both scent and bond with him. He slowly pulled back the curtains to peek outside.
There was nobody there this time. Only a small paper that was on the window.
"I'm watching you all."
The wind blew against the window silently as the paper flew in the breeze. It still was stuck to the window by a piece of tape, but the violence of the weather outside was causing it to peel off slowly.
Kasaru stared at the note and grimaced a little, he opened the window and chucked it in his rooms garbage can, sitting back on his bed as he sighed.
"I didnt think birds could write."
He knew it wasnt birds, but if something was listening in on him he sure as hell wasn't about to let it know he was panicking.
Kasaru could see a silhouette in the window now. Nothing was visible except the eyes, which were a void darker than the shadow that he stood in. Kasaru could slowly see a smile creep across the figures face as he watched him toss the note.
Kasaru's intuition told him to ignore it, to just pretend it wasnt there until it decided to make a move. He laid back down on his bed and pretended to sleep, the being couldnt see it but Kasaru had sprouted a large feather in the palm of his hand, if the window opened or if anything moved in his room, it would cause the feather to sway slightly, alerting him instantly of a presence in the room.
The figure laughed to himself. Seeing Kasaru's nonchalance almost excited him. A dare to open the window and peer into the problems that lied ahead with what he could, or would do to Kasaru and what he would do to defend himself.
However, he resisted. If the council or police got involved he would have to go through another legal endeavour. Something that he was not excited about. He had already got off some charges from before. He decided to let this be known as a warning. A prediction for what had to come after it. No, perhaps a spoiler. The figure faded into the darkness silently.
"Hm."
Kasaru felt the presence leave, he sighed and rolled over in his bed and closed his eyes once more. The feather in his palms crept back into his skin as it faded, leaving a pin prick which faded quickly. He yawned a little and put himself back to bed. He wasnt bothered by the figure. If push came to shove he knew he was the only one in danger here. He would do anything to keep his mother safe during this time. Something that his father was never here to do anyways.
