Chapter 5 - Football

The day went by in the blink of an eye, and school was over.

Students didn't waste their time as they burst through the door, excited to go back to their various houses.

"Ji Woo, let's go," Mi Young said, looking at Ji Woo, whose attention was solely focused on Soo Jin.

Hearing his name, Ji Woo's attention was grabbed as he looked towards Mi Young with a guilty smile. "You can go."

Go…

The word rang in Mi Young's head. He was in awe.

He didn't know what to feel at this moment.

Betrayal?

"Ji Woo," he called again in a warning voice.

"I can't leave him. He's also staying in the dormitory and doesn't know his way around," Ji Woo explained.

Soo Jin was new to the environment.

What if he got lost?

Mi Young glared at Ji Woo and walked out.

..

"You should have left with him," Soo Jin said as he raised his head.

Ji Woo smiled. "I want to stay with you… you probably don't know your way to the dormitory, right?" he asked.

Soo Jin gave him a side glance as he picked up his backpack and walked away.

He needed to contact his grandparents about him staying in the dormitory.

Since Mi Young was also living there, it was a good thing.

Keep your enemy closer.

He didn't have much of a plan concerning the revenge, but he knew the most important thing was to make Mi Young's life miserable.

He walked out of the classroom. He could still hear Ji Woo's footsteps following him as he walked…

He ignored him as he walked through the hallway, obviously not knowing the exact way.

He finally got to the restroom. "Don't follow me," he said coldly, stepping into the male restroom.

Ji Woo stopped, a little sad.

But he didn't plan on going anywhere as he stood in front of the restroom door.

Soo Jin stood in front of the basin, brought his bag down, and unzipped it, taking out a phone he had sneaked in, since cell phones weren't allowed in the school.

Unlocking it with his fingerprint, he slid across the screen as apps appeared.

Tapping on the contacts application, a list of phone numbers was shown.

"Grandma or Grandpa?" he muttered to himself. A question like this needed to be thought through twice.

His Grandpa was a smart, critical thinker. Knowing how introverted he was, his grandpa would surely suspect the reason he planned on staying in a dormitory. If he did an investigation and found out Mi Young, the son of that man, was here, two and two would be put together and his plan would be wasted.

So Grandpa was crossed off.

While Grandma didn't usually put much thought into things, the problem was, would she pick up the call?

He didn't want to go home. If he did, his grandpa would be there and there would be so much interrogation.

With hope, he tapped on his grandma's contact.

Ring… Ring… Ring…

The phone vibrated.

No answer.

The vibration of the phone made Soo Jin a little nervous.

For the first time, an emotion could be seen on his face.

Half an hour later.

He had called up to forty times and she still didn't pick up.

"Guess I'll have to go home," he sighed.

He was about to put the phone back in his bag when it rang.

Hesitant and hopeful, he checked the name.

Grandma.

Phew.

He sighed as he slid across the screen to pick up the call.

"Grandma," he called.

Silence.

As expected, his grandma wasn't going to say anything.

"I plan on staying in the dormitory," he said straightforwardly.

"Mm," a hum was heard from the other end. "The driver will deliver your luggage today."

That was all she said, and the call was cut off.

Soo Jin stared at the phone, his face blank. He slipped the phone back into the bag, zipped it, and wore it as he walked out of the restroom.

"You took a long time," Ji Woo said, smiling the moment he spotted Soo Jin's figure.

"You're still here?" Soo Jin asked, shocked. Had he been standing there for half an hour?

He had even forgotten about him.

Ji Woo nodded. "Yes, I can't leave you. I promised to show you to the dormitory."

Soo Jin shook his head, speechless.

"Should we go now?" Ji Woo asked excitedly.

Soo Jin didn't give any response as he walked forward.

"Wait for me," Ji Woo exclaimed, running after him.

"This is the exit of the school building," Ji Woo said, pointing to the open passageway.

"I'm not dumb," Soo Jin said sarcastically.

Ji Woo smiled, happy that Soo Jin had finally said something to him.

It was a first step.

They walked through the passageway. "The dormitory is at the back of the school building," Ji Woo explained.

"That's the football field," he pointed to a large field.

They walked past the field, where some groups of boys were playing football. Their loud shouts echoed through the open space as they chased the ball with full spirit.

Sweat glistened on their faces and their uniforms were slightly messy as they tackled each other.

On the spectator benches, girls were seated, cheering loudly when their favorite made a goal. Their voices rose as they clapped and called out the names of the players.

Ji Woo stared in temptation. He really wanted to join them.

Some of the boys noticed Ji Woo walking with Soo Jin.

"Ji Woo!" one of them shouted, waving him over. "Come play with us!"

"Yeah, join in! We need one more person!" another boy added eagerly.

Ji Woo scratched his neck awkwardly with a smile. "I can't, maybe next time," he said.

A smile slipped onto Soo Jin's lip, but it quickly disappeared in the blink of an eye.

They groaned in disappointment but nodded as they went back to their game, cheers filling the air once again.

Ji Woo stared at Soo Jin with determination.

Soo Jin was more important than him playing ball.

"Sorry for wasting your time," he said apologetically.
