CHAPTER-
KEITH POV-
I finally found him, he was sitting alone under a massive tree, far away from everyone, as always.
"Would it kill to talk to someone for once?" I rolled my eyes.
"I don't seek friendship, I'm only here for one thing." Kieran's hollow voice spoke.
"You're so depressing, so I'm guessing you didn't speak to anyone?" I said.
"Someone tried to speak to me, a man, however I turned them down, I need no distraction, and if I'm predicting correctly, you spoke to many girls?" He looked at my face.
My face flushed slightly. "No, our teacher made us do a test about ourselves, I couldn't speak to anyone, however, this girl talked to me, i don't remember her name though"
"Megumi" she said, dropping down from the leaves elegantly. I jumped, where did she come from?
"I was eyeing someone for a while, to see what they're up to, and my ears wondered to you two." her ears twitched slightly. "I couldn't help listening to your conversation, but I made some theories based on what you two said. " Her eyes investigated.
"And what is it?" I glared at her suspiciously, I noticed Kieran glancing at her with interest?
"Aren't you just a sly fox?" Kieran smirked. "What will you gain from targeting us so, badly"
"Don't get cocky, I'm doing this for my entertainment, curiosity kills a cat as they say" she shrugged.
"Oh yeah? Let's see how curious this cat is then" he stood up carefully.
Urgh, she's like the female version of Kieran. I hate my life, and as always I'm forgotten.
"How curious is the cat? I've never met anyone who speaks this way… it's very fascinating." Megumi smiled distantly.
"Well now that we know each other, how do you compare a cat to a fox?" I groaned.
"Cats and foxes are both sly animals," Kieran said.
She giggled. "What ever you say boys "
THALIA POV-
I'm so excited! I can't wait to see everyone! I chanted in my head. I quickly walked towards where our classes were announced, Nerina and Ravi waved to me excitedly.
"How did your lessons go, everyone!?" I jumped.
"Great! I made two friends! And my teacher is really hyper" Ravi explained, "and this girl i think she was flirting with me, but she was very pretty-"
I stopped Ravi before he nearly started his 2 hour ranting "OO a girl?" I raised my eyebrow, watching him squirm. "And she's pretty!? You've hit the jackpot man" I teased.
"My teacher was surprisingly strict, and hyper, I also made two friends, they reminded me of you two. Our first class was one with water, but everyone is still getting a hang of it." Nerina explained.
I felt relieved. I thought she would struggle fitting in since she has never truly socialized with other species. I'm actually happy that she made more than one friend.
"That is amazing!! Everyone made friends! I made friends too, teacher Xiang is quiet just like you Rina, no one misbehaves when she speaks, and she's really fascinating. And oh my gosh! This girl was trying to bring me down, but I put her in her place "I said proudly.
"You are unmatched when it comes to that," Ravi said.
"Mhm" Nerina replied.
"Hey what does that even mean! Nevermind, let's go to the cafeteria!" I jumped with joy.
"We should, I used up all my energy underwater. " Nerina said.
"We should! I'm starving!" Ravi groaned.
I stood behind them, pushing them quickly to the cafeteria.
The cafeteria was filled with many people, everyone either joined the line, or sat with a friend group or people they knew, it was mildly loud with lunch ladies screaming out orders.
I sniffed dramatically. "Oh the sweet smell of food! Let's join the line before it gets longer"
"Yeah, come on Nerina!" Ravi said
"How do you two always have so much energy?" Nerina sighed before dragging her feet towards the line.
We were in the line that felt like years of existing, with every minute I felt even hungrier. Ravi and I mostly argued or talked about nothing, occasionally talked about nonsense while Nerina either chipped in or listened.
"Hey who's that guy Rina is talking to?" Ravi said pointing behind my head.
"Huh who?" I turned to see my brother. I could feel my excitement turning into shock. "What the hell are you doing here Keith!?" I gasped.
"Holy shit, Alia" he jumped in shock. "You actually made it into this school?" he cackled. "How!? You're a girl"
"I could feel a vein forming on my forehead. "I did make it! How did you make it!?"
"Uhh, I joined the school? Duh" he said with attitude
"And who are these two? But I didn't see you fight in the tournament?" I said.
"Maybe your eyes skipped me. I'm here for food too, so if you don't mind me, I hope I don't see you again" he said, ordering his food before leaving.
"I didn't know that you had siblings?" Ravi said.
"Yeah… I have three, but he's the top one when it comes to annoying people "I growled angrily.
"Hmm…" Nerina hummed.
"Next! The lunch lady said "what will you two want to eat?"
We quickly ordered our meals before finding a seat.
"We should explore the school after eating" I said.
"Sure, I want to know where somethings are" Ravi said
"Yeah okay" Nerina said.
HINATA POV-
I was peacefully eating my soba. I was approached by two people.
"You look lonely!!" a girl with quite a high-pitched voice doll-like appearance got into my field of vision.
"I'm kyomi! I think I know you! Oops!" She moved back a bit. " I hope I'm not making you uncomfortable." she sulked.
"Kyomi, please wait for me!" a boy with headphones covering his ears panted heavily.
"I found a girl! She looked lonely! Let's be friends with her!" Kyomi skipped.
"Sorry about that, we all just met, but I've been with her. Wait, I know you, you're from the Kitsune family!" his eyes widened.
These two are polar opposites of each other, that's funny. "Yeah… I'm megumi, nice to meet you two "I smiled warmly.
I didn't want to tell them I'm from the Kitsune clan, even if they already knew. Besides, I'm not even accepted there.
FLASHBACK .
My family are descendants of our god, the kitsune. Because of this, my family married other species to prevent inbreeding. Sadly this caused the kitsune bloodline to slowly disappear. Until my sister and I were born.
Most babies were born without traits of our god, our grandparents and ancestors were deeply saddened.
However,
My sister was born with two healthy long tails, kitsune appearance and cheeky personality. While I was like the others, one tail and little kitsune appearance.
Our parents separated us from birth. Megumi was handed lavish gifts, head pieces. And healthy meals.
"How is it that you didn't achieve anything at all!" my mother screamed. "Look at your sister! She has already developed the wind magic!"
"Mommy… mommy look, i can do magic too" i sobbed, my frail body desperately tried to lift a pebble.
"Earth magic!? You took your father's pathetic magic? What can you do? Just move rocks?" my mother laughed.
"Mother, we will be late for dinner," five year old Megumi spoke gently. That was the only time I saw her, her eyeliner, her ears and tail, compared to her I was just another maid. Her eyes stayed at mine for a while. Her cold, empty eyes.
My sister and mom scurried towards the dinner room.
At the dinner table, mother always forgot to pay attention to my needs. I just watched from afar.
"Megumi dear, another bump? Is another tail growing?" my mother spoke as she passed the squid.
"Yes mother, my third tail," Megumi replied.
"I heard it's painful if you force it. So don't force it too much, anything you want you should ask for it, don't waver, the road may be hasty at first but you can pull through"
"Yes mother…"
Even at the dinner table I was placed far away from my family, the maids surrounded them, filling their every need.
"Hey, I brought some ramen, and your favourite" he placed on the floor "and mochi!"
My father was the only one who truly helped me when I needed it. He'd give me his leftover soba, and ramen, mochi, my dad was from the earth clan. He was chosen to be my mom's wife, so he helped me learn some earth magic. I don't know if they truly loved each other though, they were always distant.
I slowly started to eat my food, making sure I could taste every flavour in my mouth.
I love my dad so much, but I wished my mom did as well.
"How about when you grow older you'll join the school in central silver dust!?" my dad tickled me.
"But mommy said my" I laughed. "Magic isn't useful for that"
"She's lying, and you can prove her wrong!"
"Really you think so?" I questioned.
"Yep, and you can make me proud, I'll watch you enter and when you leave" he said, hugging me tightly.
"Okay daddy!" I smiled widely.
During the tournament, my dad cheered me on the most. My mom just stayed silent, she didn't even cheer Megumi on. She judged from every corner, from her high chair.
After the results were brought up, I was placed in rank two while my sister was placed in rank one. My mother didn't take that so well.
"You're a disappointment to our clan!" my mother screamed. "Just look at your sister! Ranked top in everything! Why can't you be like her!?"
"Stay calm honey… she really tried." My dad tried to separate my mom from me.
"She didn't try hard enough. She'll never make our clan proud, she'll never be like her sister" my mother huffed and walked away.
Even after she treated me awfully, I still thrived for a mother's love.
"Sweetheart, your mother is not feeling the best, I just want you to know that I am proud of you, rank two or one it doesn't matter! You're still strong!" My father comforted me.
I just nodded sadly.
After 4 days I packed my things, hugged my father and went to school. I want my mom to be proud of me, and there's one way I can do that.
I'll help people and aspire to be the person 5 year old me dreamed of being.
However, everytime I'm reminded of being a kitsune descendant, a pit fills my stomach. It might be a reflex, but all I think about is my mom.
When I entered my class, a deep satisfaction filled my face when I saw everyone in their own little groups. My eyes darted the groups formed in the class, my eyes landed on a boy with glasses.
I walked up to him quietly. "Nerd." I huffed slightly, this is my first time talking to a male….
PRESENT TIME
I have to step out of my comfort zone. And meet more people.
"Sure, I wouldn't mind being friends!" I replied.
"Yippie!" Kyomi rejoiced. "I want many friends! Lot's of friends!"
"Me too!" I smiled
