Chapter 11 - Devil incarnate

ISOBEL

The past few days has been a rollercoaster of emotions for me and so, I was a bit relieved when Mason's friend, Logan came into the picture. He was a ray of sunshine, one that I truly appreciated his presence, and I couldn't help but wonder how he was friends with someone as monstrous as Mason.

When he said he had heard a lot about me from Mason, my curiosity piqued. What exactly had Mason told him about me? Did he tell him about the night we shared? No, I doubted that. Mason knew better than to do something like that. But did I know him too well?

I shook my head to clear my thoughts from both of them. I already had enough on my plate, I didn't want to involve myself with Mason and his friend, Logan.

All I needed now was to figure out a way to clear my name and speaking of that, why was Mason interested in proving my innocence? From what I gathered so far about him, I knew he despised my father hence, he shouldn't be nice to me right? I just couldn't understand the man.

After I excused Mason and Logan, I took a stroll down the hallway, ignoring the gazes of other omegas. I didn't really have another friend aside from Quinn so I knew there certainly won't be a lot of people pleading my innocence.

"Isobel!" I heard my name, making me turn around abruptly. It was Quinn, I watched as she ran towards me. God, I've missed her.

"Quinn!" I wrapped my arms around her in a tight hug, finally letting my guards down for the first time since the chaos began.

"I've been calling and chasing after you," she said with a frown as she untangled herself from me.

"I'm sorry. I was absent minded." I said truthfully.

"It's okay." She said, "I've been so worried about you. How are you?"

"I'm alive!" I said with a small smile in an attempt to ease the tension but Quinn was having none of it.

"Are you hurt?" She spun me around, closely examining me, "I was so worried when I heard the judgment. How on earth did they believe you're a murderer? You can't even hurt a fly for god's sake!"

"I'm fine." I answered, then I proceeded to share my thoughts, "Someone framed me, Quinn. I don't know what I did wrong but apparently, the person wants me dead." I paused, as the thought of Mason floated into my head, "Thankfully, Ophelia's son has begun investigation."

"He believes you? Why?" Quinn cleared her throat, "Why is he so interested?"

"He's the Supreme Alpha obviously so I guess he can easily detect the truth." I said confidently, as I mentally gave myself a pat on the back. I had previously rehearsed the line severally and I was glad I didn't mess up. I couldn't risk revealing the secret Mason and I shared.

"Oh," She mumbled to herself.

"Speaking of him, he's the absolute worst." I began, feeling the need to say something, "He's bipolar and a control freak!"

"How so?" Quinn seemed genuinely interested and I instantly caught myself.

"I just assumed," I quickly came up with a lie, "He's Ophelia's son and the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, does it? He's pure evil."

"Uhm…" Quinn drawled.

"Evil incarnate. I—"

"I see you have a lot to say about me," I heard Mason's voice behind me, making me immediately shut my mouth.

"I—" I tried to explain myself but Quinn beat me to it.

"Oh, Alpha Mason," she pushed me out of the way, suddenly acting strange and overly excited, "I'm so sorry about Isobel. She didn't mean it like that. Please don't take it to heart."

Quinn's behavior was strange, and it annoyed me. Why was she suddenly acting all mushy? It was unlike her and it irritated me. It was as though she had seen Mason coming but didn't think it was wise to let me know so I'd keep shut. Yet she allowed me to keep bad mouthing him. I couldn't help but notice the slight changes in Quinn's behavior.

Mason ignored Quinn and came to stand before me. I didn't realize how dominating his presence was until I felt my back slam against the wall. He had me cornered by the wall in the presence of Quinn and Logan!

"Why don't we put that pretty mouth of yours to good use." He said in a very low voice that I had to strain my ears in order to hear him.

"Ma…Alpha Mason," I stuttered, as I tried to push him away, "What are you doing?"

"You too should just get a room already." Logan commented teasingly, reminding me that we were in public so in a bid to free myself from Mason's grip, I subtly stepped on his foot.

Mason smiled softly before letting me go. I was certain that my little attempt didn't hurt and that he just let me go out of his own free will.

I chuckled to clear the awkward silence, "Don't make such jokes," I let my hand trail to my nape and massaged gently, "We're siblings"

I glanced at Quinn, and she looked like she would kill me instantly. She glared daggers at me before storming off. What was that?

I turned to face Mason, wondering what had come over him? We were in public for crying out loud. I was trying everything possible to make sure we didn't repeat our mistakes yet he didn't seem to care. It's like he was purposely put by my side to counter all of my efforts.

"Why would you do that?" I frowned, ignoring Logan's presence.

"To my chambers now!" Mason instructed, totally ignoring my question.

"I asked you a question," I insisted stubbornly and that seemed to tick him off.

Mason grabbed my collar and pulled me closer, "I am the Alpha, I get to ask the questions." He muttered darkly, "To my chambers now!"
