Chapter 9 - Glaive's Event

They killed a multitude of small baby worms and three bigger ones. They also stumbled across a massive beast.

It was like the boar that Alto found while he was alone. Only this one was much smaller. The group surrounded it and Alto even managed to get the final blow in.

{You have slain Adolescent Flea}

{You have gained 1,024 XP!}

{You have leveled up!}

{You have leveled up!}

'A flea?'

{You have gained a new ability Slash!}

They took the crystals out of the creature, then carried its body back to the town. It had a lot of uses, its skin was used as a form of leather and its meat sold for a decent amount.

After returning to the town. They discovered yet another murder took place. They seemed to be random. With no correlations between the victims. The citizens were on edge.

"It was you!"

Glaive tried to calm the random girl down.

"He's been with us the whole time, I swear."

More people gathered around. All of them seemed to be accusing Alto. The convicted man simply had his eyes closed with an upset expression.

"Just look at him! Do you feel no shame!"

Soon the crowd grew even more. People surrounded the party. It was broken up by the village elder luckily. Right before things started to get violent as well. His guards were right behind him.

The village guard somewhat escorted him to his hotel room. The village elder seemed upset. He suggested that the young man should leave this town soon.

Alto wanted to agree, his goal was to escape this place after all. He however, didn't want to let a psychotic murderer do as he pleaded.

So, he denied the request. Planning to catch the dude then be on his way.

He had no obligation to protect these people, but it seemed wrong to leave them. Maybe it was because the killer personally met with him. Or because he took a liking to some of the residents.

Alto stayed in his room, unable to fall asleep. He simply stared at the ceiling while thinking to himself. Soon the darkness became more oppressing. The light couldn't reach as far.

"You're finally here."

"You were waiting for me?"

"Wait, Glaive?"

The door was slightly open, and Glaive was looking inside.

Glaive paused for a second then stepped into the room.

"I need to tell you something."

A confused look found its way on Alto's face. He quickly stood up.

"What is it?"

"I know who the kil–"

"You do! Who is it?"

Glaive was silent. He continued to stand right in front of Alto.

"Glaive?"

Then his body suddenly split in half from the waist. Having his top half make a large thump against the ground. Blood splashed on Alto's face. It all happened too fast. Not registering what just happened. There was still a smile on Alto's face.

"Oh no! Why did you do that? You killed that poor, innocent kid! How, treacherous, how treacherous indeed, oh what kind of vile monster would do such a thing."

A dark figure could be seen right next to the wall.

A look of utter shock began to manifested from Alto's face.

Alto quickly grabbed his sword.

"I'll kill you!"

Then he used thrust, aiming for the dark figure. The orange tip of the sword glowed in the consuming darkness. It was quickly deflected. Producing sparks.

A sudden scream could be heard, coming from a woman out in the hallway. Staring into Alto's room. Alto was holding a sword, and Glaive's body rested on the floor. Alto got distracted by that single moment. Then the dark figure disappeared.

Alto quickly looked around. Seeing the window open.

"Alto! How could you!"

Hia was staring at the scene.

"It wasn't me!"

Alto quickly jumped out the window. Searching for darkness. It seemed like this was some sort of back alley. There were a few lights. One of them wasn't working properly. Its light was very dim, as a black shaped moved underneath it.

Alto quickly chased it. The man was very fast.

The monster could also hear the monster laughing, as he ran.

It may have been because of this. That alto was able to keep up with him. Slowly catching up.

"Oh, is the monster upset! Is the monster going to cry! Only a monster like you would kill that kid! He had a very bright future you know!"

"Shut up!"

There was an opening in front of them that led to a road. The black creature took a left. Alto quickly followed. There was a crowd of people. All with the white garments, green eyes, and silver hair.

That monster was nowhere to be seen. Coming to a brief stop. People around him began to look horrified. Seeing the blood covering his body.

Not knowing what to do Alto quickly ran back into the alley.
