"What kind of Anbu is this? It's like sneaking around stealing chickens and dogs!"
As Kakashi followed Dragon out of Anbu headquarters and toward the village outskirts, he couldn't help but secretly sneer inwardly.
When Anbu operatives moved through the village, they had to sneak out, avoiding detection by villagers and, if possible, even other ninjas. It was no different from petty thieves stealing chickens and dogs!
"It's better to be open and aboveboard," Kakashi thought. "At least when you're racing across rooftops, you get the admiring gazes of the villagers below!"
Lost in his disdain, Kakashi quickly followed Dragon out of the village.
*Whoosh! Whoosh!*
As they passed an intersection, two figures silently emerged from the shadows.
"Who's there?"
The moment the figures moved, Kakashi's keen senses detected the disturbance. Before they could even reach him, he had already drawn his sword from its sheath behind his back.
However, when he recognized the newcomers, Kakashi relaxed his guard slightly. The two figures were also wearing the standard Anbu uniform of Konoha.
"Captain!"
"Captain!"
The two Anbu glanced at Kakashi before addressing Dragon.
Kakashi immediately recognized the two Anbu before him as members of his own squad. "Viper" and "Dog" were similar in build, but one had long black hair while the other had short brown hair.
Kakashi couldn't tell which was Viper and which was Dog.
Hearing that they were indeed his teammates, Kakashi naturally relaxed his guard and sheathed his blade.
He failed to notice the two Anbu exchanging glances as he lowered his guard.
*Swish! Swish!*
Without warning, the two Anbu launched their attack. Each gripped a kunai in both hands, one thrusting upward toward Kakashi's chest while the other flashed behind him, sealing off his retreat.
"Damn it!"
Kakashi's right pupil contracted sharply as the two attacked, and he cursed inwardly.
Sensing the cold killing intent radiating from them, Kakashi no longer knew if these Anbu were truly his teammates. He suddenly remembered that "Dragon" hadn't yet confirmed their identities.
He had already let his guard down!
"Damn it!"
With no time to ponder whether these two were enemies or fellow squad members testing him, Kakashi's hands were already moving in rapid hand seals the moment he sensed the danger.
Though caught off guard by their attack, Kakashi's reaction speed was legendary.
"Substitution Technique!"
*Poof!*
In a puff of smoke, Kakashi's figure instantly vanished, replaced by a wooden log.
"Substitution Technique..."
"Such incredible reaction and hand seal speed..."
The two Anbu who had attacked Kakashi were visibly startled.
"Blade Draw: Thunder Slash!"
As they marveled, Kakashi's voice echoed in their ears. Appearing beside them, he unleashed the Hatake Clan's ancestral swordsmanship. With a swift, graceful motion, he drew his blade and slashed upward at one of the Anbu, the movement direct, powerful, and utterly domineering.
However, without employing the Hatake Clan's secret techniques to execute the Hatake Three-Blade Technique, Kakashi's attack was merely a standard blade draw strike.
Kakashi wasn't worried about being recognized for using the Hatake Three-Blade Technique. From his memories, he knew his father, Konoha's White Fang, had only ever used one of the three techniques publicly: Chasing Fang. The first two blades had only been practiced in private and never demonstrated before outsiders.
"Impressive attack!"
The Anbu operative facing Kakashi offered a faint compliment as he effortlessly blocked the strike with his kunai.
*Clang!*
A dazzling shower of sparks erupted between Kakashi and the Anbu operative as their blades clashed.
*Swoosh!*
The Anbu operative immediately followed up with a powerful kick aimed at Kakashi's right leg, forcing him to parry with his blade.
*Bang!*
The force of the kick sent Kakashi flying backward, blade and all.
Kakashi's hands went numb from the impact, and his blade vibrated violently, humming incessantly.
"Damn it! Such immense power!"
Staggering back, Kakashi stared in shock at the Anbu operative. He hadn't expected such overwhelming strength, leaving him at a clear disadvantage.
"Pity you're still too weak!"
After sending Kakashi reeling, the Anbu operative's disdainful voice echoed coldly. Though his face remained hidden, Kakashi could sense the contempt in his eyes.
"Weak, my ass!"
Kakashi roared in fury. By now, he was certain these two Anbu were members of his own squad, because Dragon hadn't made a move yet!
Moreover, one of the Anbu had stopped attacking, proving they had no intention of killing him.
This was just a test of his strength and reflexes!
But even if it was a test, there was no need to belittle him! How could Kakashi not be furious?
*Chichichi!*
Kakashi released his blade and rapidly formed hand seals.
"Lightning Release: Chidori!"
*Chichichichichi!*
The piercing cry of a thousand birds erupted from Kakashi's right hand, accompanied by a blinding flash of lightning. He wouldn't let them get away without a lesson—he'd be too humiliated!
Since he couldn't use the true Hatake Three-Blade Technique to teach them a lesson, Chidori would have to do!
"What...?"
"He's actually condensed solid lightning in his hand..."
"Impossible..."
The faces of the two Anbu and Dragon paled simultaneously when they saw the Chidori in Kakashi's hand, their eyes wide with shock.
The Anbu who had previously sneered at Kakashi now had all traces of contempt completely erased from his eyes.
