Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: East Continent island

When the structures of the abandoned city stopped collapsing and the plasma beam vanished, the special forces soldiers were still utterly shell-shocked.

They swore they had never witnessed such an exaggerated scene in their lives. Unexplained light beams flying everywhere, skyscrapers collapsing like dumplings dropping into the ground. They could not conceive of any possibility other than an alien invasion.

New Humans?

What a joke!

No one dared to think along such absurd lines.

The mission to find the white-haired girl could wait. The commander now only wanted to know what on earth had just happened in this abandoned city.

Also, what the hell was that thing that just crashed down?!

"Launch the drones!"

"Huh?"

The squad members were still confused. They reacted and opened their cases, launching drones one by one, sending them out to explore the interior of the abandoned city.

Roy looked at his masterpiece, feeling extremely satisfied. The power of the plasma beam was close to what he had imagined. It lacked large-scale destructive area, but its intensity was much stronger than pure telekinetic destruction.

The appetizer was over; the main course was next. His figure slowly rose into the sky. Terrifying, overwhelming telekinesis directly enveloped the entire abandoned city.

Oong—

An invisible ripple swept across. All the drones in mid-air instantly malfunctioned and died. With a thought from Roy, the entire abandoned city shook violently.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

All the Zombies and Zombie beasts in the abandoned city exploded into a rain of blood. A dense, dark red blood mist filled the ruins, unable to dissipate for a long time.

In an instant, Roy's Zombie Kill Count updated wildly. Streaks of light flew in from all directions, offering equipment, items, and abilities for Roy to choose from.

[ Zombie Kill Count: 847924 ]

[ Item Obtained: Zombie Serum ]

[ Equipment Obtained: Durable Climbing Boots ]

[ Ability Obtained: Night Vision ]

...

There was nothing particularly good. Roy chose Night Vision and collected the Zombie virus serum, figuring it might be useful later.

[ Ability Mastered: Night Vision · LV1 ]

[ Night Vision · LV1: Darkness can no longer hinder your sight. ]

The silence was deafening.

The special forces soldiers looked incredulously at the figure in the sky. The commander raised his binoculars, but still could only see a distorted human shape.

The telekinesis warped the light so severely that they could only confirm it was a person; they couldn't clearly make out his features otherwise.

The burly man swallowed hard, his pupils constricted to the limit. He wished this was just a nightmare: "Do you guys think that's an alien, or a New Human?"

At this moment, the commander's expression shifted slightly.

"He seems to be looking at us?"

No "seems to be", he was looking at them. The next moment, the special forces members were collectively lifted into the air, pulled in front of Roy.

The remaining might of the powerful telekinesis even linked the husks of dozens of nearby buildings together in mid-air, surrounding the special forces members.

Oh my god!

The burly man felt his body trembling uncontrollably. Under this kind of power, even if Roy claimed to be a god, he would absolutely believe him.

In mid-air, a strong wind howled, and the building husks drifted around. When Roy spoke, the telekinesis vibrated the air, altering his voice.

"Who are you?"

The commander answered without hesitation, choosing to tell the truth decisively, with no intention of being tough or hiding anything: "We are the soldiers of the East Continent Island Second Special Operations Team, dispatched to execute a mission: to retrieve a survivor girl from this abandoned city!"

East Continent Island?

The fact that they could maintain such armed forces and travel such a long distance in the apocalypse meant that East Continent Island's military equipment and strength were indeed formidable.

It was even possible that they were the black hand behind the apocalypse, though that was just speculation. Other places might also have survivor bases maintaining a comparable level of armed strength; East Continent Island wasn't necessarily the culprit.

Roy had already planned to go to East Continent Island. Running into their people halfway through the journey was good luck. While questioning them, the telekinesis around him boiled fiercely, terrifying the commander and his men.

Uninterested in why East Continent Island wanted to retrieve the girl, Roy directly asked: "Regarding the spread of the Zombie microbes and the cause of the apocalypse, tell me everything you know."

The nervous commander swallowed and answered honestly: "I only know that East Continent Island was fully prepared before the Zombie virus outbreak. Other than that, I know absolutely nothing."

"That's enough."

Knowing this much was sufficient. At least it allowed him to deduce that East Continent Island likely had foreknowledge of the Zombie microbe outbreak, which was why they were so prepared.

Regardless of whether they were responsible or not, he would find out by going there. Roy felt he was getting closer to the truth of the apocalypse.

"Which direction is East Continent Island in?"

The commander opened his tactical tablet and pointed eastward: "Based on satellite guidance, East Continent Island is five hundred kilometers away from us."

"Satellite guidance makes it simple. You'll be coming with me."

"Huh?"

The commander looked confused. Wasn't his part over yet?

Then, the suspended building husks rapidly descended, falling into the abandoned city and shattering into pieces of rubble. On the ruins, a white-haired girl was looking up at Roy's figure.

East Continent Island sought her because she was the first New Human in the apocalypse to demonstrate comprehensive enhancement, even manifesting an ability like telekinesis, giving her immeasurable research value.

The survivors struggling on these very ruins had already come to worship her as a goddess. Yet, right now, the girl seemed to have met a true deity.

Rumble!

The falling skyscrapers, the shaking earth, the white-haired girl on the ruins.

The girl's eyes were burning. Having lost all belief, she seemed to have found a reason to continue existing in these despair-inducing ruins: "This is the true God!"

Boom!

A sonic boom echoed in mid-air. Roy, taking the commander with him, instantly flew into the clouds and vanished. The special forces members landed safely, still feeling like they were dreaming.

Exchanging glances, they all felt that something major was about to happen on East Continent Island.

"Quick, notify headquarters!"

Actually, whether they notified them or not didn't matter. Roy was traveling toward East Continent Island at Mach 5. The distance of five hundred kilometers looked far on the map, but it would take him less than a minute.

What could East Continent Island do in one minute?

They probably wouldn't even have time to react.

Roy had originally planned to clean up the zombies in the cities along the way while traveling, but the plan changed due to new developments. Now, he would deal with East Continent Island first.

It proved true that even emergency intelligence couldn't be fully reported in one minute. The special forces members didn't even know how to report this to their superiors.

How should they phrase it?

A presumed New Human capable of instantly destroying a city is about to attack East Continent Island? Would headquarters believe that?

Regardless of whether the higher-ups believed it, the special forces reported it that way.
