After my conversation with Liam, I dressed up and headed to school. After I was done with my lectures, I was about to head home when Liam came to meet me. We exchanged pleasantries, then he asked me if I'd be free after school. So he could buy me lunch.
I was about to accept when I remembered what Matheo said, how he doesn't want to see him around me again. So to avoid any issue with Matheo, I rejected his request by saying I had something urgent I wanted to do at home.
We were about to say our goodbyes when Matheo came and pulled me so hard to his side.
"Matheo, you're hurting me," I said, with my brows furrowed.
Immediately, he realized that he had quickly let go of his grip.
"Baby, why are you doing this to me? Do you want to drive me crazy?" he said with a look of anguish.
Before I could even respond to what he said, he walked out on us. I chased him, shouting, "Wait, wait." But he ignored me. He got to where he parked his car, entered his car, and drove off.
I went back to where Liam was, and then he asked me if I was in a relationship with Matheo, but I told him it was complicated. Then we finally said our goodbyes.
When I got home, I called Matheo on the phone several times, but he didn't pick up. I was on my bed when I heard a knock on the door, so I went to check who it was, and was shocked to see Amanda at the door.
She entered the room and said, "I came to take my remaining belongings, because I'd be moving out of the dorm. So you can either find another roommate to split the rent with, or you pay the whole rent yourself."
What she said left me stunned and sad. I knew how hard my mom and dad struggled, before they could even send me my part of the rent. I got into this school through a scholarship but it didn't include accommodation and feeding.
So what they were sending to me was barely enough. Regardless of that, I was able to stay in school comfortably because Matheo randomly credits my account with money. I tried to return them many times, but he would keep sending them back till I gave up. So eventually I started using them.
So I thought to myself, if Amanda leaves, I would be left with the burden of paying the whole rent, which is very expensive, and finding a roommate mid-session is very difficult, and I wouldn't want to rely on Matheo's money before I could pay the rent. I was still thinking about what she said, then I asked her, "Why are you moving out?"
"Because you are a bad friend. After I told you how I felt about Matheo, I also told you to leave him alone, but you wouldn't. So I can't stay with you anymore," she said with a look of disgust on her face.
I was so dumbfounded by what she said. I couldn't believe how this girl, who had wronged me deeply, could victimize herself. But on second thought, I decided to ignore her, because she probably doesn't know how I loved him and the amount of harm she has caused me.
I just watched her in silence as she packed everything she owned into her boxes. When she was done, she didn't even look at me; she just took her stuff and left.
After she left, I felt sad for some reasons; firstly, I was going to miss her company, because regardless of what she did to me recently, she had done a lot of good things for me in the past. Secondly, I didn't have any other person I spoke to in the dorm aside from her, and the last one was the huge financial responsibility I now have to undertake because I can't burden my parents or Matheo with that.
So I thought about it for a while, then I decided I was going to look for a job. I called Rita on the phone and asked her if she knew of any vacancy that had a flexible schedule where I could work. She asked why I was looking for a job, and then I told her what transpired between Rita and me.
She was also dumbfounded by Rita's actions, and she told me to just forget about her. So she said she was going to check for job vacancies and then get back to me.
After I ended the call with Rita, I scrolled through my phone to see if Matheo had tried to reach me or return my calls, then I saw that he didn't even try to reach out to me or contact me.
A few days passed and I didn't hear anything from Matheo. I just couldn't understand his constant mood swings. So I decided to just ignore him, also, but it was futile. I didn't understand how he could ignore me for days, because it was very difficult for me.
It just always felt like something was missing. The more I tried not to think about him, the harder I thought about him. I couldn't find joy in anything I was doing.
As a consequence of my restlessness, I became sick because I didn't have an appetite to eat anymore, and I also fell into depression during that period.
I was still trying to manage my health when I got a call from Rita. She said, "Ava, I just found a job vacancy in a cafe close to our school, and they take part-time workers. They also have flexible working hours, so you'd be able to negotiate the time that is okay with you, and wouldn't clash with your lectures."
I was so delighted after I heard what she said. Then I responded joyfully, saying, "Are you for real? Thank you so much. When can I start working?"
" We can go now to speak to the manager to know when you can start working," she said.
Later that day, we met up and then headed to the cafe together. When we got there, I met with the manager, and we talked about my pay and their terms of service. He also added that I could resume the following day.
Everything he said was okay with me, so I agreed, then headed home with Rita. She followed me to my dorm, and we spoke for a while before she went back to her dorm.
Days went by quickly, and on the third day of working in the cafe, I fainted.
