Chapter 32 - Annoying

Jairo had trekked back to where Gabriel was collecting berries. As he got close, there wasn't much of a change but at least the boy had not passed out from starvation.

That was a start.

"I'm back. You still eating?" He said, taking heavy breaths. He was more tired than he thought. And his head was beginning to hurt.

Gabriel lazily turned to him.

"Well yes, I'm quite hungry in case I don't look it.

Did you get the other guy? What was his name again?"

The mention of him worsened Jairos mood. The roof of his mouth began itching as his eyes squinted. "Theon." Was all that left his gritted teeth.

Noticing his look, Gabriel raised his eyebrows.

"Did he do something to bother you?" The boy said, raising his brows.

'Why is it that the one thing we can speak about is something this annoying?'

He sighed before continuing. "The idiot almost got himself killed while we were out picking berries. If I hadn't arrived when I did he would be did."

"Shame." Gabriel said before continuing to another nearby bush, picking the ripe blueberries from the bush.

Jairo looked at him with a bit of shock. "This is a man you will have to work with as well you know. Do you have any ideas for me to make this easier?"

The boy nodded. "Stop trying to be the most important boy who saves everyone and pulls everything together. It will leave you strung out at best. At worst everyone will get tired of your mouth and leave you for dead."

He almost got annoyed, but shook his head. "That would just lead to him dying too. Besides, why do you try to sound so wise for a kid maybe younger than me? What have you done?"

The mention of that seemed to stir a silent anger in the boy, who stopped eating and just stared at him for a few moments, then walking off.

Jairo just laughed as he leaned against the tree behind him. 'Of coarse the whiny fuck couldn't take what he could dish out. Figures.

Yes, Jairo was quite annoying. That said, was it wrong to call out a boy who was likely younger than him for trying to act like some wise sage?

'So this is my team? A fucking emo boy who shriveles at the mere mention of his past, and a boy with a brick for a brain? Who am I kidding? Why my luck this is expected.'

Still, Theon was an idiot but at least he tried something. Gabriel was shaping up to be the type to complain about every little thing while doing no work to match. Just nothing.

"Is this how older people ment when they said the newer generation went soft?"

No. Any kid here is likely tougher than most adults in the real world, but the similarities between kids doing so much over hurt feelings made his original world not feel so distant from this one.

Still, these bums didn't compare to his old team, Ariel, Harken, Nero and Maribel. Truth be told he tried not to think about them.

If the thoughts persisted he would be found trying to run away.

As of right now it was best to stay in his place. If he ended up accidentally bumping into member of his alleged team at the moment…he couldn't promise that he would make the morally correct decisions.

Just then, a deep and bellowing noise sounded in the distance, sounding like a horn.

Jairo was not a betting man by any means but he had a hunch that that was finally the sound of being recalled. It was finally time for everyone to be done and lay down.

After so much walking, after all the time dealing with idiot children…it all began to seem worth it.

Jaro stood back up, the pain in his feet becoming a non factor as he put one foot in front of the other repeatedly with seemingly no issue.

"Can I finally rest?"
