Chapter 14 - Patents and Opportunities

Every master breeder was comparable to an Elite or even a Champion. In other words, the current Su Yu was, in theory, already on par with a championship-level Trainer. Thinking about it carefully, there was nothing wrong with that assessment at all. Before his death, the system had already maxed out his breeder level, and now, if the energy cube formulas stored in Su Yu's mind were made public, he could be certified as a master breeder in a matter of minutes. Of course, that was purely in terms of theory. When it came to practical skills, Su Yu still needed more hands-on experience, but the foundation was already solid beyond doubt.

After getting off the bus, Su Yu walked for about five minutes before arriving at the Breeders Association. The place was bustling with activity, with people constantly entering and leaving, many of them accompanied by their own Pokémon. This wasn't Su Yu's first visit, so he was already quite familiar with the surroundings. Upon reaching the entrance, he reluctantly put Pichu back into its Poké Ball before walking inside. The moment he stepped into the hall, he heard someone calling his name. Turning his head, he saw Professor Wang waiting in the distance, accompanied by a young woman.

When Su Yu got a clear look at her, he froze for a brief moment. Wasn't this the same person he had met on the bus when he was heading back to the orphanage? And she knew Professor Wang as well? At the same time, Chen Xi'er was equally surprised. She hadn't expected that the young man she had seen yesterday would turn out to be someone Professor Wang valued so highly. Fate really did work in mysterious ways.

Su Yu quickly collected his thoughts and walked over. Seeing him approach, Professor Wang smiled and began the introductions. The young woman was named Chen Xi'er, the granddaughter of an old friend of his, and her family business specialized in selling energy cubes. In other words, she was exactly the kind of person Su Yu needed to meet. Professor Wang suggested handling the patent registration first, explaining that the advanced breeder examination wouldn't begin until around one in the afternoon, so there was plenty of time.

Su Yu nodded and greeted her politely, introducing himself. Chen Xi'er smiled warmly in response and commented on how they had met again, her gentle demeanor giving off a first-love kind of impression. Su Yu coughed awkwardly and quickly turned the conversation back to business, gesturing toward the box in his hands and mentioning that he had brought both finished energy cubes and the formulas. Professor Wang agreed, asked Chen Xi'er to wait for a moment, and led Su Yu toward the elevator.

As she watched Su Yu leave, the corners of Chen Xi'er's mouth lifted slightly, her mood clearly improving. She found a seat nearby, took out a Poké Ball, and released a Ralts, holding it in her arms as she quietly chatted with it. The sight quickly drew attention—after all, Ralts were extremely rare Pokémon, and seeing one here was unexpected.

The patent registration process went exceptionally smoothly. Su Yu's energy cube formulas had never been registered before, and with finished products already prepared, the office conducted a simple inspection and quickly confirmed that there were no issues. The patent certificates were issued directly on the spot. Under normal circumstances, this process could take several days, but with Professor Wang's involvement, everything was handled with remarkable efficiency.

Holding more than a dozen patent certificates in his hands, Su Yu nodded silently. With these, a steady stream of funding was practically guaranteed. As long as the formulas were protected by patents, no one else could use them commercially for several years without authorization. Anyone who tried would face direct legal action from the patent holder. Of course, if someone modified the formula and achieved similar effects, they could apply for a new patent—after all, there were countless ways to combine energy cubes.

The formulas Su Yu registered were intentionally simple, using common materials. The most expensive ingredient among them was Moo Moo Milk, produced by Miltank. While it was nutritious and delicious, and thus pricier than ordinary milk, it was still a widely available resource. Compared to the rare and costly materials used in many mid-level energy cubes on the market, Su Yu's formulas were extremely cost-effective. Their production cost was only about one-third of existing alternatives, and with mass production, costs could be reduced even further. As long as the process was followed precisely, success was guaranteed—any mistake, however, would result in failure. The value of these patents was obvious.

Professor Wang examined the formulas carefully, his eyes filled with amazement and a hint of pride. He remarked that even if Su Yu didn't become a Trainer, going down the breeder path would still take him very far. The formulas looked simple on the surface, but were packed with detail and precision. Su Yu merely smiled modestly, brushing it off as an unexpected gain.

With the patents secured, Su Yu suggested heading back to speak with Miss Chen, confident that she would be interested. Professor Wang nodded, informing him that he had already signed Su Yu up for the advanced breeder assessment later that afternoon and that he would also help prepare the paperwork for the breeding house license. As for the negotiations themselves, Professor Wang planned to stay out of it—he had other matters to handle.

Regarding whether Su Yu could pass the advanced breeder assessment, Professor Wang wasn't worried in the slightest. Su Yu's academic performance had always been outstanding, and now, with these energy cube formulas, there was no doubt about his practical feeding skills. As for Pokémon knowledge, that was even less of a concern. Su Yu had once aimed to become a Trainer, and the only thing that held him back was money. Anyone who lacked Pokémon knowledge wouldn't have been able to obtain those Trainer certificates in the first place.

For Su Yu, this assessment would be nothing more than a formality.
