The walk back to the house was one of the longest of my life. Not because of the distance but because of the silence. Cassian walked beside me, but neither of us spoke much.
The training yard had been left behind, yet I could still feel dozens of eyes on me. I could still hear the stunned silence that had followed and the disbelief on everyone's face.
Including Cassian's, especially Cassian. The memory made my stomach twist. How did that happen?
"You keep doing that." Cassian's voice broke the silence and I looked up.
"Doing what?"
"Thinking yourself into a panic."
"I-I am not panicking." That was a straight out lie.
"You are."
Of course, he didn't believe me. I didn't even believe myself.
"I am thinking."
"You're panicking while thinking."
I glared at him and he smiled. He was so annoying.
"I moved fast," I muttered.
"You did."
"That's all?"
"It wasn't."
