After Alpha Hades caught me, I went back to my room. I was thankful he didn't try to find out the things I heard even though he didn't answer my question.
It was another night and I couldn't sleep. I spent most of the night staring at the ceiling above mu bed, replaying the conversation she had overheard.
"What if it's starting?"
The question echoed endlessly in my mind.
Starting. What was starting?
And why had Alpha Hades looked so uncomfortable when I had asked him about it? The more I thought about it, the worse I felt.
Every strange thing that had happened over the past few days suddenly seemed significant. The way my bruises healed faster. The strange heat I had felt during the attack. The impossible speed in the training yard. The sounds that seemed sharper lately. The scents I somehow noticed recently.
None of it made sense and that terrified me. By the time dawn arrived, I had barely slept at all and it affected me. A knock sounded at my door.
