Chapter 18 - Bonds, Tech, and Regular Dates

"What does she mean by 'kiss him into oblivion'?" Kim asked the group.

-

"I can blow a kiss that transports a man into nothingness. If I leave them there for twenty-four hours, I can't bring them back." Kitty explained to the red head human.

-

"That sounds so broken." Ron said at hearing Kitty's explanation. "So, Danny will get those powers after he backs you?" He asked the green haired ghost.

-

"Yes, including Johnny's bad luck induction. They should help with the hero work that they do." Kitty told the blond human.

-

"How does it actually work? Does it only take away boys, or anyone of the gender you're attracted to?" Danny asked Kitty. "It seems like a vague power." He added.

-

"I don't really know. I haven't tried to do it on a girl before." Kitty told Danny. "Kim, do you want to help test it out?" She asked the red-haired human.

-

"The kiss into oblivion, or the attraction thing?" Kim asked confusedly and took a step back.

-

"The kiss into oblivion, obviously. I only have eyes for Johnny." Kitty said, crossing her arms across her chest.

-

"Good, because I only have eyes for Danny. But sure, I can try the kiss into oblivion. As long as you bring me back right away." Kim said as she took a step forward again.

-

"Okay, I'll do it on the count of three. Everyone else should take a step back." Kitty said and everyone did, Johnny especially took several steps back. "1, 2, 3!" She said as she put her hand to her lips and blew an ectoplasm powered kiss at Kim. The energy that came off her lips looked to be in the shape of her lips and when it hit Kim, she disappeared with an audible pop. Kitty put her hand to her lips again and blew another kiss and Kim reappeared right where she was.

-

"That felt weird. It was like you said, nothingness." Kim said as she sat down on the couch.

-

"Are you alright, Kim?" Danny asked as he rushed to her side.

-

"I'm fine, just a bit disoriented." Kim told her boyfriend.

-

"Yeah, that'll happen." Johnny said to the group. "I think it's the lack of senses when you're in there." He said to the red-haired girl.

-

"I'm fine now." Kim said. "How do you know what Kitty's nothingness feels like?" She asked the blond biker ghost.

-

"I send him there when he makes me mad." Kitty said to the group. "So, the backing?" She asked, changing the subject.

-

"Okay, who wants to go first?" Danny asked the ghost couple. "There are two parts to how I backed Sidney. The first is the regular backing, but the second part is mostly meditative. I will have to guide you and pull you into a mindscape. You will need to look inwards to your own core and merge the orbs into one giant orb. That's how Sidney got his realm from his haunt." Danny explained.

-

"Okay, that sounds like it can work. I'll go first." Johnny said as he stepped in front of Danny. "The regular way to receive a backing is with a handshake and speaking your intention of the backing." He explained as he set out his outstretched hand.

-

"Okay, like I said, I backed Sidney by accident." Danny said as he transformed and reached for Johnny's hand. "I, Danny Phantom, choose to back you, do you accept?" Danny asked and he squeezed his hand.

-

"I accept." Johnny said to the half dead ghost boy. A light emanated from Johnny, making him look more and more human. He still had blond hair; his skin wasn't gray anymore. A line of energy went from Johnny to Danny, same as it had with Sidney. "Woah, that felt good." Johnny said as he felt the new energy wash over him.

-

"Okay, time for the second part, which, like I said before, is guided meditation where you solidify your core." Danny told the now human-looking ghost biker.

-

"Ready when you are dude." Johnny said as went to sit on the couch.

-

"Okay." Danny said as he sat next to Johnny. "Look inwards to yourself and clear out everything except where your powers come from." Danny said as Johnny closed his eyes and Danny followed suit.

-

Danny entered his trance quite easily and found the same large orb he made before, but now it was surrounded by new small black orbs. Danny decided to wait a few moments before doing something and the orbs flew next to him and swirled around a figure that turned out to be Johnny after the orbs dispersed back around the large orb.

-

"Whoa. This is, like totally bizarre." Johnny said as he saw all the orbs. "Is that large one yours?" He asked and Danny nodded. "And the small ones are mine then?" He got another nod.

-

"You just need to push them together and that makes it larger. I'd recommend doing pairs at a time, but you should listen to your own energy on how you go about it." Danny explained to the ghostly biker.

-

Johnny was moving his hands, but nothing was changing with the orbs Danny saw. Unlike last time with Sid, Danny knew that Johnny was building his own core first. 'I'll wait until he's done before messing with the orbs around mine.' Danny thought, same as last time.

-

After a few moments Johnny sighed happily. "I got two large orbs of different colors. Do I combine those?" He asked and got a nod from Danny. This took some effort for the newly colored ghost, but after a moment, he accomplished it. Johnny glowed after the effort, so did the orbs surrounding Danny's orb.

-

"Okay, give me a moment to combine the orbs that I theorize symbolize the bond we made. They haven't moved since you started, but are now glowing along with you, so I think they are ready to move." Danny said as he did as he did the last time he meditated. He felt power from each of the orbs he touched as he combined them.

After Danny finished combining the little orbs, he was left with a medium sized orb next to his large orb. "I finished combining your orbs and am now putting it into my orb." Danny informed Johnny as he did so. There was little resistance, it was as if Danny's orb was sucking in Johnny's orb.

After Danny did that, Johnny's glow was blinding and knocked Danny out of the meditative trance. After the glow subsided, the room got some color. Johnny's skin looked like gray skies, looked taller and had a green tint to his hair that also seemed to burn like fire, his clothing did not change colors or appearance at all.

-

"That felt amazing! I feel so much power right now. I think my senses are even sharper than before." Johnny said in Gholric, surprising himself and Kitty. He stood up in his excitement and turned to Danny. He grew a foot in height, his skin was a dark gray with light gray accents, his hair was almost glowing gold, and his clothes were slightly too tight for him due to his growth. "Can I hug you?" He asked in English. Danny accepted and Johnny squeezed him tightly, picking him up as he did.

-

"That's exactly what Sid said when he went through this." Danny told the biker ghost as he put Danny down. "Try turning into a human." Danny suggested and Johnny nodded as he transformed and took a deep breath.

-

"Oh Ancients! It feels like I'm alive." Johnny exclaimed as he went to hug Kitty.

-

"Oh, now I gotta do it." Kitty said, looking at her boyfriend's excitement. "Let's do it now." She said, stretching out her hand towards Danny as she sat down next to him.

-

"I, Danny Phantom, choose to back you. Do you accept it?" Danny asked the green-haired ghost girl.

-

"I do." Kitty said with all the seriousness in her voice. She glowed brightly and another line connected her to Danny. She looked more human, but still with green hair. Her skin became pale Caucasian and her clothes didn't change. "Now, let's get to meditating." She said as she pulled her legs on the couch to sit crosswise and closed her eyes.

-

Danny joined her and once again found his large core with small orbs surrounding it, these ones green and blue. The orbs converged onto each other and spawned Kitty's figure next to Danny in the mindscape. Once Kitty saw where she was, she instantly got to work on merging her orbs.

It didn't take long for Kitty to start glowing, symbolizing that she was done with merging her orbs. Danny gave her a nod and got to work on merging her orbs that were surrounding Danny's core.

After Danny got a medium-sized blue and green orb, he pushed it into his core, this time with some resistance. Danny had to force it to merge with his core, exerting a lot of force into mentally pushing it into his core. But finally, he managed it and Kitty started to glow so brightly that it kicked him out of the mindscape, like it did with Sidney.

Danny opened his eyes and found that Kitty was still glowing, but it was obvious that she grew taller. It took a minute for the glowing to subside, and her features could be seen. Kitty had deep blue skin, deep green hair that looked like vines, her clothes looked slightly tighter on her due to her growth. 'I wonder why it was so hard to merge her orb with my core.' Danny thought to himself.

-

"That felt euphoric." Kitty said as she seemed to come down from her high.

-

"It looked euphoric." Kim said to the newly transformed girl. "Why don't you try turning human?" She asked, trying not to look at her clothing.

-

"Ooh, right." Kitty said as she stood up and focused as two rings formed around her center and went up and down respectively. She shrunk back down and looked like she did before the meditation. She took a deep breath, just like Johnny. "Oh Ancients! It does feel like you're alive." She said before turning back to Danny. "Do you feel like that change each time you transform?" She asked the half dead ghost boy.

-

"I haven't been dead long enough to notice something like that, but I do know that I don't need to breathe, and that's what feels so good when you transform as a human." Danny told the recently transformed ghost girl.

-

"You don't need to breathe?" Kim asked, surprised at her boyfriend.

-

"Yeah, I discovered that I didn't need to breathe when Klemper and Frecia hugged me at the same time, covering my mouth and nose tightly, for like ten minutes. I also tested it in the bath after I discovered that and discovered that I just didn't need air. So, that plus the lack of gravity effects, I could go really deep diving in the ocean or check out the moon." Danny said with a smile on his face, thinking about going to the moon.

-

"That's awesome. And you only need to make the trip once and you can make a portal there whenever you want." Ron said to the half dead ghost boy.

-

"Now that you mention that that might just be what I do next weekend." Danny said, not realizing that he could just do that.

-

"Maybe you should wait until Wade does some calculations for the most opportune time to go. There should be a time of the year the moon is the closest to the earth.

-

Wade popped up on the haunted communicator. "The soonest supermoon will be this Friday. That will be when it is closest to the earth." He answered the unasked question from Danny. "And on an unrelated note, I can pick up the communicator in the Realms." Wade said to the group.

-

"Wicked, what do I have to do to get one of these?" Johnny asked, admiring the device.

-

"We're working on it. Regular communication devices don't work unless the connection was already made outside of the Realms." Danny said to the biker ghost before turning to Kim. "Speaking of, we need to take Nikolai to meet with my parents."

-

"Right. I totally forgot about that." Kim said to her boyfriend before going to get the bags in the kitchen.

-

"Who's Nikolai?" Ron asked the couple that were his friends.

-

"Nikolai Technus, he is a ghost or spirit of technology that went on a rampage at our date. We talked to him and found that he was just upset that his high-tech inventions weren't allowed at the Fair." Danny told the blond human boy. "We convinced him to come with us to work with my parents on their technology." He added as Kim came out of the kitchen with the bags.

-

"Ready to go?" Kim asked Danny.

-

"Yeah, let me just check if there are guests at my place." Danny said as he closed his eyes and used his town sense power to see into his home. Jack was still in the kitchen, working on the new capture devices. Maddie was downstairs in the lab, working on some schematics. Jazz wasn't home and there was no one else there. "We're good. Give me a moment to open a portal." Danny told Kim as he focused on the portal to his living room.

-

Kim and Danny walked through the portal, Danny being jumped on by a small Cujo, Scylla, and Charybdis. "I wonder why natural portals are so Icy." Kim asked as she put down the bags.

-

"Why do you think I know?" Danny asked.

-

Danny and Kim's conversation caught the attention of Jack in the kitchen. "Danny? Didn't you just leave?" Jack asked as he walked out of the kitchen, leaving behind his work.

-

"It's time travel dad; we spent the greater part of a day on our date." Danny told his father.

-

"Although, most of what we did was shopping." Kim said, rubbing the back of her neck. "Sorry again for that." She told Danny.

-

"I told you, we can always go back there to check out the amusement zone." Danny told Kim. "Anyways, we met a technological ghost that was willing to work with you and mom." He told his father. "He attacked the Fair in a tantrum though because his tech was too complicated for the fair." He added as he pulled out the thermos.

-

"It's sad to hear that you couldn't avoid being heroes on your date. Who's the ghost and are they going to throw a tantrum if we don't go with his ideas?" Jack asked with reasonable concern in his voice.

-

"I think the only reason he threw a tantrum was because the exhibit was supposed to show what futuristic technology was going to be like and the people in charge chose Electro the Moto-Man and his basic controls." Kim told Jack, in some defense of Nikolai. "Think of it like a science fair and you submitted the Ghost Catcher and someone else submitted a baking soda volcano and the volcano won." She added to make some sense of Nikolai's actions.

-

"That's exactly right." Danny said. "He didn't fight us when we confronted him. If that gives you an idea of his personality when mad." He told his father.

-

"Well, I would have to meet him before I make any decisions, but maybe he could help us out when studying Skulker's robot armor." Jack said to the couple. "Let's tell your mother about this first and have us meet this ghost." He said as he made his way down to the lab. Danny and Kim follow behind after moving the bags to the couch. Cujo jumped off of Danny to stand guard on the bags and Scylla and Charybdis stayed on Danny's shoulders.

-

'Aranea, how long can I wait until I have to register backings? In human world time if you could?' Danny asked the spider samurai.

-

'A week in human world time. So I take it you took Johnny and Kitty on their offer?' Aranea asked his master.

-

'Yes. But when I merged Kitty's orb with my core, it had a lot of resistance. More than Sidney and Johnny's orbs.' Danny told Aranea as the three humans went past the weapons vault.

-

'You merge your cores? That's not what a normal backing is, and I don't think there is a registering form for that. Did they have a transformation like you do?' Aranea asked.

-

'Yeah, they each had a human transformation that they said made them feel alive. Do you think that I made them into Halfas?' Danny asked as the group neared the lab door.

-

'Perhaps you are more powerful than anyone thought.' Was all Aranea said in response to what Danny asked. 'I'll look into it.' They said before their presence left Danny's mind.

-

Jack opened the lab doors and found that Maddie was surrounded by what could be called a nest of schematics. She was mumbling about how they overlooked the safety feature so much and didn't notice the group coming into the lab. Jack slowly walked over to Maddie and gently placed a hand on her shoulder. "Hun, look. Danny and Kim are here. They have someone they want us to meet that could help with our technology." He spoke gently to not stress her further

-

"Huh? Oh. Excellent. We could definitely use the help. I was looking over all of our schematics and saw some blaring disregard to safety in our technology. Thankfully it's only in the personal tech and not in the stuff we sell, but how could we have missed this." Maddie said, starting to spiral again into what they had found her in, before shaking her head. "I would like to meet this ghost or spirit." She said to the teenage couple.

-

"Okay, give me a moment to open the thermos." Danny said as he dug into his satchel and pulled out the thermos. He opened it and pressed the release button. Nikolai came out of the canister a little disoriented before looking around the lab.

-

"I thought you said they had an artificial portal?" Nikolai asked the half dead boy.

-

"We dismantled it after some blaring safety concerns. We were hoping that you could help with the safety of our old and new inventions while you work on some of your own here." Jack spoke up to the technological ghost.

-

"Lab safety is important. I will help. Mostly because I just want to see the future's technology." Nikolai told the human in an orange hazmat suit. "I am Nikolai Technus, a ghostly Master of Technology. Your son told me that you were overshadowed when making the portal?" He asked Jack.

-

"I was when I put the on button inside the portal." Jack corrected the technological ghost. "My son's mentor examined me and found that I was overshadowed, and from what overshadowing feels like, they said it was most likely then when I was overshadowed." Jack explained. "I'm Jack Fenton and this is my wife Maddie Fenton. Pleased to meet you Nikolai."

-

"Yes, a pleasure." Maddie said to Nikolai. "Could you possibly help us add some 'bigger on the inside' technology in our lab for more space?" She asked the technological ghost. "We already have experience with adding it to some of our technology, but we don't know how to add it to the room." She added.

-

"That would probably be best. Though, I believe that this 'bigger on the inside' technology is from the Realms?" Nikolai asked the adult couple.

-

"Yes, our son fought a spirit called Skulker who had armor that made his size into a large robot. He brought it to us to examine it, but the 'bigger on the inside' technology was the only thing we could replicate." Maddie told the ghost.

-

"Excellent. I would like to see your schematics on this technology, I have never seen humans be able to copy technology from the Realms." Nikolai said, excitement bleeding into his words. "I think I'm gonna like working for you." He said as Maddie handed the correct schematics.

-

"I think that's our cue to leave." Danny told Kim. He had Charybdis watch over them for the day as the rest of them went out of the lab. "What do you want to do now?" Danny asked, just as Kim's communicator beeped.

-

Kim pulled out her communicator and answered it. It was Wade. "Hey Wade, what's the sitch?" She asked as she and Danny walked past the weapons vault. "I'm kinda still on my date." She said to the computer boy.

-

"Sorry Kim, but it's your fault, you left Ron in the Realms." Wade said to the red-haired girl. "Also, there's a ghost running amok near the space center." He said just before he hung up.

-

"I'll go get Ron." Danny said as he opened a portal to the living room and Ron walked out, along with Sidney, Johnny, and Kitty.

-

"Seriously guys? You left me, what if you forgot me?" Ron asked.

-

"I would've let you ride with me out of the Realms, dude. They probably knew that and wanted to continue their date." Johnny told Ron, patting him on the back. "Also, we need to register the backings soon." He told the half dead boy.

-

"I know. I can go do it within a week, human world time." Danny told the biker ghost. "And we were going to continue our date, but there's been an attack on the space center. We need to stop that." He said as he transformed and replicated himself before transforming back into a human.

-

"While I want to continue our date, the attack comes first." Kim said. "Plus, it means we can publicly team up with Phantom and his team." She said.

-

"Are you sure you can fight in that dress?" Kitty asked the red-haired human. "Why not let the ghosts handle it while you continue your date, they could be gone when you get there since you and Ron need to change clothes to go on these missions." She said to the girl. "We can help there."

-

"I think Kitty's right, Kim. You said we should try to ignore hero work on our dates and we're not alone in the hero business." Danny told his girlfriend while the others nodded.

-

"Plus, I can use this time to try out my new powers." Ron told Kim.

-

"Sorry dude, but you're benched until we get you some training. Kitty and I can fight a lot. And you just got your powers, so let them settle first." Johnny told the blond human.

-

"But my dad works there and I have a set of armor that can fight ghosts." Kim said, not wanting to be benched.

-

"Yeah, and your father will not like you fighting ghosts until we figure out all the safety features in that armor." Maddie came up from the lab. "I found several flaws in the design of that suit. It's not ready to be used in the field." She told the global teen hero. "Even the thermos has flaws. It'll blow up if you over fill it." She added.

-

"But-" Kim started but was interrupted.

-

"No but's young lady, you're not allowed to go ghost hunting just yet." Maddie told the global hero. "It'll be good for you to lean on others at times." She said to Kim. "Go on your date, hun." Maddie told Kim.

-

"Fine." Kim said with an exasperated tone. She looked to the human Danny, who had a smile on his face. She turned to Ron and handed him her Kimmunicator. "Danny has his own communicator, if you feel over your heads, call him." She said to the group of ghosts.

-

"I'll answer, but I'm sure you all will be fine." Danny told the group of ghosts. "Phantom, why don't you try to use your town sense to open a portal near the Space Center?" Danny suggested.

-

"Good idea, Danny. Why didn't we think of that before?" Phantom asked.

-

"Because it's been less than a week since we had either power." Danny answered the half ghost clone.

-

"It's really weird when you talk to yourself when you're cloned." Johnny said to both Danny and Phantom.

-

"We know, but it feels so natural." Both Danny and Phantom said in unison.

-

"That's creepy too." Johnny said. "Just get on with the portal already." He said as he waved his hand.

-

"Okay." Phantom said as he closed his eyes and focused and opened the portal to the Space Center and the group, minus Ron, Danny, Kim and Maddie, went through it. The portal closed behind them and the four humans stood in the living room.

-

"Ron, you should focus on clothes shopping while we're out on our date." Danny said to the blond human, who nodded and went out of the Fenton home. Danny turned to his mother. "I have Charybdis watching over you three in case you need me." He told his mother, who nodded and extended her arm for his satchel. Danny took out the thermos for when Phantom needed it and handed it to her, and she left for the lab. Danny turned to Kim. "So, do you want to go to a movie?" He asked his girlfriend.

-

Kim sighed. "Sure. You know, when you said you were going to make me take breaks, I didn't know it was going to happen so soon." She said as they headed out of the house.

=

Kim and Danny made it to the mall where the theater was and entered to find that people were crowding the TVs. When Danny and Kim squeezed through the crowd, they found footage of the fight at the space center. Danny pulled Kim away from the TVs and took her to the line for the theater.

-

"What movie do you want to watch?" Danny asked as they walked up to the sign for what movies were playing.

-

Kim looked at the sign and saw the movie she wanted to see. "How about The Notebook?" She asked.

-

"Sure." Danny said.

-

Kim was surprised for a moment. "You're not going to fight me on it? Ron usually does and we go watch one of his movies." Kim said.

-

"I don't mind the movie, I'll probably just be looking at you, plus why would I argue with you? I asked what movie you wanted to watch and I meant it." Danny told Kim as he side hugged her. "I want you to be happy."

-

"Ironic, given that The Notebook is a sad romantic movie." Kim chuckled out. "I guess I spent so much time with just Ron, that I forgot how other people act, like when choosing a movie. Thanks for coming into my life." She said as they made their way to the ticket booth. There was a long line for the movies.

=

Danny and Kim got their tickets and went to the specific theater playing The Notebook without running into anyone that knew them. They took their seats in the back of the theater, so they didn't have to strain their necks looking up at the screen. Ads were playing as they did all of this and Danny and Kim were talking quietly to themselves.

-

"So, how do you think the fight is going?" Kim asked Danny, knowing that he could access the memories of his clone.

-

Danny looked into the middle distance. "It went fine; they finished with minimal property damage." He told her. "Told you they could handle it without you joining in." He added as he pet the top of her head.

-

"I knew they could handle it, but it was like when you sensed Nikolai at the Fair, I just had to be the one to help at that moment." Kim said to her half dead boyfriend.

-

"I know, dear, but like you told me, it doesn't do well to always listen to the hero in you." Danny said to his red-haired girlfriend as the ads ended and the movie began with a red sunset. "Just how sad is this movie?" Danny asked his girlfriend.

-

"It's one of the biggest tearjerker movies I have seen." Kim said. "I might have to use you to dry my tears." She told her half dead boyfriend.

-

"I'm here to help." Danny said as the movie showed a man rowing a boat.

-

Sad sounding piano music played as the man rowed his boat down a large river. The sun is lowering as he does. Birds fly past the camera as it finally turns to night in the movie. The birds are flying towards what looks like a mansion. The camera changes to show a blonde woman looking out of a window at the man. The camera changes to face the woman and a nurse comes in. "Excuse me." The nurse said to the woman. "Come on honey, let's get you ready for bed." The nurse says as the woman has one final look outside the window. The camera goes back to the man rowing the boat as the screen fades to black and the intro to the movie is done.

-

"I can totally see how this is a sad movie." Danny told Kim in hushed whispers. "The piano kinda gave it away." He told his red-haired girlfriend.

-

"I know right, it already makes you sad at the beginning." Kim said to her half dead boyfriend.

-

Danny and Kim watched the movie, mostly in silence, and Danny was true to his word that he would mostly be looking at Kim the whole time. He wrapped his arm around her, and she cuddled into his side. Kim had tears rolling down her face that she used as an excuse to put her face in Danny's chest. At the end of the movie, even Danny was crying, along with everyone in the theater. Danny and Kim left the theater and decided to go and get some dinner. Kim knew of a good place that Ron never liked, and she hasn't had the time to go herself. Danny let her lead the way there. Smiling the entire way there.
