At that moment, the mysterious man seemed to completely forget that he was holding a living person on his back.
Instead, his gaze shifted toward Spider-Woman not far away. In a low, deliberate voice, he said:
"Finally… I've found you, Spider-Woman!"
Chapter Eight: Venom Spider?
Peter, clad in the black Spider-Man suit, stared blankly at the Spider-Woman before him.
The familiar costume almost perfectly mirrored the animated version—tight-fitting, accentuating every curve and muscle. It clung like black silk along her legs, giving her an elegant, elongated silhouette.
Suddenly, Peter's super-vision activated.
The black, spider-themed suit Spider-Woman wore instantly became transparent.
"Fair enough… cough cough… she really is my classmate, Gwen Stacy."
God knows, Peter's true intention for using his x-ray vision was simply to confirm her identity.
"Put him down! He's suffocating!"
Spider-Woman had no time to wonder why this man was after her or why he was staring so intently.
Despite the discomfort his gaze caused, as Spider-Woman, she could not stand by and let anyone die before her eyes, not even a criminal.
"Ah… almost forgot about him."
Hearing her call, the mysterious man finally seemed to remember he was carrying someone.
"Fine… he's yours."
With that, the man gently tossed the person toward Spider-Woman.
But Spider-Gwen's body immediately tensed, her Spider Sense activating in response.
The man, acting as if the throw were casual, launched the unfortunate victim like a human projectile straight at Gwen.
The incredible speed and impact instantly triggered her Spider Sense.
Instinctively, Gwen dodged to the side, narrowly avoiding the human cannonball.
"Was that intentional?"
Her anger flared, but she couldn't confront the mysterious man directly. The human projectile had already shot past the alley at lethal speed. Without intervention, he would not survive.
Gwen couldn't bear to see anyone die in front of her. She spun, shooting out a web.
"Got you…"
Her web latched precisely onto the airborne man, but before she could celebrate, she felt an overwhelming force travel through the silk.
"Ugh… so heavy!"
The power nearly pulled Gwen off her feet. Refusing to fail, she gripped the web with both hands.
"Damn it… stop!"
This was the first time Gwen had used her full strength since gaining her powers.
The force exceeded ten tons—enough to crush a normal human with a single punch. Yet here, she was barely holding onto someone casually tossed.
The tension stretched even the reinforced spider silk to the brink of snapping.
Finally, the man exhausted himself and Gwen successfully pulled him back.
"Was that intentional or an accident?"
After webbing the unconscious man to the wall, Gwen turned to the mysterious figure, her expression serious.
"…Sorry. I told you, it wasn't intentional. Can you believe me?"
Peter, beneath the mask, spoke slowly.
"I believe you… bullshit!"
Gwen had no reason to trust the man.
"Who are you? And… why are you dressed like that?"
She finally had a chance to observe the mysterious man in detail. The all-black Spider suit he wore looked eerily mysterious under the moonlight.
"You can call me Toby Maguire… or…"
"Venom Spider."
"Venom Spider? You…? Impossible! How could you…?"
Gwen was incredulous. In this city, how could anyone else gain powers from a genetically mutated spider bite like hers?
"Exactly. Like you, I was bitten by a genetically altered spider, which gave me extraordinary abilities."
"What you don't know is that there were actually two mutated spiders. You were bitten by the female; I, the male."
Peter, now posing as Venom, rambled to Gwen.
"This can't be real…"
The idea seemed absurd, yet Gwen hesitated, then asked cautiously,
"So… what does that make us?"
"Enemies."
Peter's voice turned icy.
"What?"
Suddenly, he shot a web from his wrist toward Gwen.
Her Spider Sense triggered instantly. She dodged with deadly precision.
Without hesitation, she fired another web to the nearby high-rise. Her body swung upward, landing gracefully atop the building, overlooking Peter below.
"Toby Maguire, is that right? I don't know where your powers came from, but it's definitely not what you're claiming."
Gwen regained her composure, analyzing the situation.
"You must've skipped biology class. Female spiders are stronger than males… and sometimes eat them!"
With no time for him to reply, she leaped off the building.
Her agile, slender body twisted midair like a top-level diver performing a seven-and-a-half rotation trick.
Peter's wrist webs shot toward her, but she evaded them easily.
The webs stuck to the ground below. Using the tension, Gwen adjusted her trajectory and kicked Peter hard.
She would not hesitate to fight at full strength against a superhuman!
"Hah…"
Peter, using his enhanced vision, observed everything calmly, unaffected.
As Gwen's foot neared his face, he finally raised his arm.
BOOM!
His body slammed the ground, leaving two deep footprints. Gwen was hurled backward, flipping several times before landing.
Although her posture was controlled, her heart sank.
"This Venom Spider… insanely strong!"
Chapter Nine: Bus #2 Stopped on the Eighth Floor
Gwen barely had time to process how terrifying Venom Spider's strength was. Her Spider Sense activated instantly.
"Damn… too late."
But her opponent was too fast; even with her Spider Sense, she could not dodge in time. She only crossed her arms instinctively, bracing for impact.
BOOM!
