Chapter 33 - Page 33

"Forget it. Even if it really is her, I'm not Superman. Simple magic won't take me down."

As a near-invincible superhuman, Peter's magical resistance was now as strong as his physical durability.

With that thought, he relaxed slightly and accelerated through the sky.

After looping over several countries, Peter again sensed the feeling of being watched.

Meanwhile, in Asgard—the realm of the gods, one of the Nine Realms alongside Midgard—Heimdall, guardian of the Bifrost, withdrew his gaze, allowing him to perceive everything across the Nine Realms.

"This person… such powerful senses… when did such a being appear in Midgard?"

His usually stoic expression darkened with concern.

"Heimdall… my friend, are you still there? Open the Bifrost for me, quickly!"

As Heimdall contemplated the appearance of this extraordinary being on Earth, a voice suddenly echoed in his ear, breaking his thoughts.

Without hesitation, Heimdall plunged his silver sword into the Bifrost activation mechanism.

A brilliant silver lightning bolt illuminated the entire apparatus. The rainbow bridge connecting all of Asgard blazed with dazzling light, colored energies flowing through it like ribbons across the galaxy, converging at the bridge's far end.

At the tip of the Bifrost, a beak-like device erupted with energy, forming a towering multicolored pillar spanning the Nine Realms.

Fwoosh!

With the Bifrost fully activated, figures appeared in Asgard, accompanied by the cascading colors—and the corpse of a massive monster.

"Haha! Asgardian warriors are truly unbeatable!"

They brandished bloodied weapons and cheered wildly; the massive creature's corpse was their trophy.

Among them stood a tall, muscular man with long golden hair, wearing a silver-winged helmet and gleaming metal armor.

He approached Heimdall, patting his shoulder, and asked with curiosity:"Heimdall, why did you hesitate earlier?"

"I saw Midgard… a powerful new god has appeared there."

Facing Thor—the son of Odin, heir to the Asgardian throne, and a mighty thunder god, as well as Heimdall's closest friend—Heimdall revealed everything he had witnessed.

"A powerful new god in Midgard? Impossible! I visited there centuries ago; humans were incredibly weak."

"Even in my youth, I could defeat hundreds of them with ease!"

Prideful Thor scoffed at Heimdall's warning.

"Besides, they once hailed me as the Great Thunder God. Even now, I am still revered!"

Thor swung his silver hammer, dismissing Heimdall's claim. Not because he underestimated humans, but because from an Asgardian perspective, humans were indeed fragile.

To mighty Asgardians, humans were almost godlike in their vulnerability.

"Thor, it's been centuries since All-Father Odin forbade mortals from entering Midgard freely."

"The world has changed drastically. They've developed advanced technology and even wield devastating weapons."

"They no longer worship the gods… nor need our protection."

Heimdall had witnessed humanity's rapid progress firsthand.

"Recently, one mortal has risen with incomparable power. All humans call him… the God Among Men."

Heimdall's expression hardened. He refrained from mentioning another disturbing detail: the mortal's power rivaled even Odin himself.

"The God Among Men?"

Thor repeated the phrase, his face alight with battle-ready determination.

Chapter 38: Thor Descends from the Heavens

Time passed—nearly half a month flew by.

"Our hero, Superman, hasn't appeared publicly for several days, yet crime in the city has dropped by 80%. The President has even announced plans to personally award him the World Peace Prize…"

"Osborn Industries signed a military contract the day before yesterday, soon to provide cutting-edge soldier equipment to the armed forces…"

"Stark Industries' Biogenetics Lab was established just days ago. Locals report horrifying screams coming from inside at night…"

"Billionaire Tony Stark hasn't been seen in public for nearly a month. According to a mysterious source, he has been kidnapped…"

A glance at the morning newspaper made it clear: Superman's name dominated the headlines again.

The media had spread his fame far and wide; from octogenarians to toddlers, almost everyone had heard of him.

Peter heard people discussing him every day on his way to school.

Yet it hadn't changed his routine. He attended school by day and visited the secret Antarctic lab by night.

With the energy problem solved, research on the nanotech suit progressed smoothly. Now the suit could take the form of various outfits, though it still required a few minutes for the nanomaterials to stabilize into solid shapes.

Meanwhile, scientists like Reed Richards were studying ways to accelerate the molecular assembly of the nanomaterials.

Tony, having successfully built the Arc Reactor, focused on algorithms to enable the suit's rapid shape-shifting.

In short, Peter's nanotech suit would soon be ready.

Though it was the weekend, Peter had been invited to a special tech exhibition after school the previous day.

Gwen's new mentor was presenting the culmination of over a decade of research.

"No surprise… the world is always cruel to Spider-Woman," Peter thought.

"She just lost a potentially villainous mentor, and now she has another who could turn out to be the same."

On the way to the exhibition, Peter felt sympathy for Gwen Stacy. Perhaps she was this world's chosen, but trouble always seemed to follow her.

"Still… I prefer Doctor Octopus' artificial sun."

Peter had agreed to attend the exhibition for one reason: he needed to verify something crucial.

"Can this artificial sun grant me the same kind of strength as a real one?"

Meanwhile, in a hospital room decorated in a vintage style, a perfectly built man lay on a bed. Despite wearing a tank top, his muscular frame was unmistakable.

An old-fashioned radio broadcasted a classic baseball game.

Suddenly, the man began to tremble violently, muttering as memories of past hardships surfaced.

Moments later, he shot upright, eyes wide open.

Where am I?

He looked around the room with wary eyes.

"This game…"

He listened intently to the familiar radio broadcast, his confusion deepening.

"Good morning, Captain Rogers."

A nurse in a vintage uniform entered, smiling at the newly awakened man.

Where is this place? Who are you?

The man eyed her warily, his tone sharp.

"This is a surgical recovery room in New York…" the nurse replied calmly.

The final result of the baseball game was announced over the radio.

Initially composed, the man's demeanor soon faltered.

"Where am I? What is this place?"

He stood, towering at nearly 1.9 meters with a frame radiating raw strength.

"I don't understand what you're saying…"

The nurse grew flustered.

"This game was held in May 1941."

"I know… I was there!" the man growled, his expression hardening.

Boom!

The door was suddenly kicked open. Two armed men charged at him.

Though just awakened, Steve Rogers' combat skills and strength were far beyond that of ordinary men.

The two assailants were quickly subdued.

Without hesitation, Steve Rogers surged out of the suspicious recovery room.
