Chapter 34 - Page 34

The next moment, determined to figure out where he was, Steve surged out of the hall and into the bustling streets.

Meanwhile, in the hall's surveillance room, Nick Fury and Phil Coulson were glued to the monitors, watching Captain America emerge.

"Cap, why didn't you follow my advice? Why not use another year's baseball game instead of deliberately leaving such a glaring flaw?"

Coulson frowned. He had warned Fury that, as a baseball fan, Steve would almost certainly know the events and outcome of the 1941 game—but then why insist on using it?

"Coulson," Fury replied calmly, "we need a Captain America who can come to terms with reality quickly—not a soldier freshly awakened who needs psychological care."

Some truths are easier to accept when discovered firsthand. Let him find out for himself.

"Let's go. It's time to check out this ancient relic!"

At that moment, Steve stood in the crowded street.

Towering skyscrapers rose all around him, while giant screens on their facades showed Superman soaring through the air, battling a massive green monster. Shock and disbelief painted Steve's face.

Is that… Superman?

Watching Superman fly and unleash his signature heat vision, Steve's worldview shattered. He couldn't tell if the footage was from a movie or real life. He felt the weight of the decades he had slept through.

Suddenly, he was surrounded by countless black cars.

A bald man with a black visor—looking like a perfectly polished egg—approached him slowly.

"Don't be nervous, Captain," the man said.

"I apologize for the abruptness earlier, but it's best we slowly bring you up to speed on everything."

Coulson's face twitched slightly at Fury's words. So that's why they call him Director…

"You've been asleep for about seventy years. During that time, the world has changed beyond anything you could imagine."

Steve listened, absorbing Fury's explanation. Seventy years had passed… and Peggy was still waiting for him, ready to dance once more. A deep sadness swept over his face.

"I once missed…"

Boom!

A massive rainbow beam suddenly descended from the sky.

"You mean those unimaginable changes… including that guy with the hammer?"

Before Steve could even catch his breath, he pointed at a figure behind Fury—a silver-armored being crackling with lightning.

Chapter 39: Captain Wu Wukai Appears

Midgard… I'm back!

Thor, clad in gleaming armor and wielding Mjolnir, slowly emerged from a rainbow beam, his godlike form radiating power.

"I want to see what this new god, highly praised by Heimdall, is capable of."

So far, Thor had met no setbacks. Proud and battle-hungry, hearing that Heimdall valued a human so highly, he wasted no time coming to Earth to challenge them.

Even though Heimdall had tried everything to stop him, and even though Odin had forbidden travel to Earth centuries ago.

"Father, Heimdall, rest assured. I will claim victory myself, and with this undisputed triumph, I will cement my ascension to the Asgardian throne today."

Today was indeed Thor's day—his official succession to Asgard's future throne.

"Hey, you wannabe Thunder God, put down your… hammer!"

Though Thor's entrance was spectacular, unlike anything anyone else would do, how could the S.H.I.E.L.D. Director be intimidated so easily?

Fury spoke while gesturing for Coulson to clear the crowd.

"One hammer? Ignorant human… this was gifted by my father, the pinnacle of Asgardian craftsmanship, forged by the Dwarf King from the core of a dying star. It is the supreme artifact—Mjolnir—the Thunder God's hammer, capable of summoning lightning."

"You dare call it an ordinary hammer?"

"I am Thor, the God of Thunder from Asgard. I do not impersonate anyone."

Fury's words seemed like an insult to Thor, who bristled, eager to prove both himself and his hammer were correct.

Crackle…

Mjolnir seemed affronted, instantly erupting with brilliant silver lightning.

"Alright, alright, if you insist… But now, calm down, set this aside, and submit to our inspection."

A surge of electricity arced through Mjolnir, causing all S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, including Fury, to instinctively draw their weapons.

Fury's expression hardened.

What are they doing?

Yet even amid the tension, some onlookers outside seemed to relish the spectacle.

"Looks like they're filming a movie. The effects are amazing—I just glanced, and there's not even a green screen."

A tall young man, observing, was clearly fascinated.

"I saw it too. That armored actor's hammer… it's generating electricity. How is he doing that? A Tesla coil?"

Another chimed in in agreement.

"Asgardian warriors never lay down their weapons—even in death!"

"Out of the way! I'm going to face that Superman-looking guy for the final duel. If I'm late, my coronation is ruined!"

Talking to Fury and others, Thor readied his hammer for the challenge.

"Stop! Put down the weapon, or we shoot!"

Fury would not let this unknown being go easily. Who knew the chaos he might unleash on Earth?

"Annoying mortals!"

Encircled and blocked by the agents, Thor's frustration boiled over.

In an instant, he lifted Mjolnir high.

Dark clouds thickened, shrouding the land. Thunder roared, lightning streaked the sky, and it felt like the apocalypse had arrived.

"Oh no! Lightning! Get the laundry inside!"

Nearby civilians fled in panic.

Crack!

A silver-white bolt struck Mjolnir, enveloping Thor in blinding energy. His armor gleamed, and a terrifying aura radiated outward.

It was as if a true god of thunder had descended to Earth.

"Those annoying mortals should be running now!"

Back in earlier times, this tactic always worked. Witnesses either knelt in worship or fled in terror.

But now, centuries later, Earth had advanced technologically and grown skeptical of gods. Even aliens risked being captured and studied.

All present were S.H.I.E.L.D. elite agents.

Even amid the blinding lightning, each felt their scalp tingle, as if their hair were being pulled.

Except Fury. He alone remained unfazed.

But not a single agent fled or retreated. Fury knew the danger and immediately ordered the attack.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Bullets erupted from their firearms with near-perfect accuracy.

Ping! Ping! Ping!

Yet countless rounds ricocheted off Thor's armor, sparking harmlessly.

"Damn mortals."

Thor had intended only to intimidate—but they had retaliated fiercely.

Though he didn't want to harm humans, he wasn't foolish enough to endure an attack without response.

Hmm… whether they're idiots, that's another question.
