Chapter 185 - Hearts in the Middle of War

Part 2: Hearts in the Middle of War

The mansion stood strong.

But inside—

Not everything was about war.

Because even in danger…

Hearts don't stop feeling.

Garden — Afternoon

The sun was soft.

Warm.

Almost peaceful.

Seraphina played with her toys on the grass.

Humming happily.

Amelia sat nearby.

Watching her.

A quiet smile on her face.

For a moment—

She forgot everything again.

Until—

"You keep doing that."

Ethan.

She didn't even turn this time.

"Doing what?"

"Smiling when you think no one is watching."

She paused slightly.

Then looked at him.

"You watch too much."

He smirked.

"Only you."

A beat.

She rolled her eyes slightly.

But there it was again—

That small smile.

Ethan walked closer.

Then sat beside her.

"You're different today."

She frowned slightly.

"How?"

"Less… guarded."

A pause.

She looked at Seraphina.

"She makes it hard to stay guarded."

Ethan followed her gaze.

"She does that."

Silence settled between them.

But it was calm.

Safe.

Then—

Amelia spoke.

"…Why are you still here?"

Ethan frowned slightly.

"What kind of question is that?"

"You know what I mean."

Her voice softened.

"You saw what happened."

"You know what's coming."

A pause.

"You should stay away from me."

Ethan leaned back slightly.

"And miss all this?"

He gestured around casually.

She didn't smile this time.

"I'm serious."

"So am I."

Their eyes met.

"I'm not going anywhere."

Her breath caught slightly.

"…Why?"

That question again.

But this time—

His answer came slower.

More real.

"Because when I'm with you…"

He paused.

"…everything makes sense."

Silence.

Her heart skipped.

She looked away quickly.

"…You're saying nonsense again."

He smiled faintly.

"Yeah."

"But you didn't deny it."

Upstairs — Damian & Elara's Room

Elara stood by the window.

Watching the garden.

She saw them.

Ethan.

Amelia.

Close.

Talking.

She didn't feel jealous anymore.

Just… thoughtful.

Arms wrapped around her from behind.

Damian.

"You're watching them."

She leaned back slightly into him.

"Yes."

A pause.

"They look…"

She searched for the word.

"…real."

Damian rested his chin lightly on her shoulder.

"They are."

She turned slightly to face him.

"Do you think it will last?"

A pause.

Damian looked out at them again.

"In this life…"

"Nothing lasts."

Then he looked back at her.

"…Unless you fight for it."

Her lips curved into a small smile.

"You always say things like that."

He smirked faintly.

"And you always listen."

She turned fully now.

Their faces close.

"I trust you."

She said again softly.

Damian's eyes softened.

"I know."

Back in the Garden

Seraphina ran toward them again.

Laughing.

"Uncle Ethan! Amelia! Come play!"

Ethan stood.

"You heard the boss."

Amelia sighed softly.

But stood too.

For a moment—

Their hands brushed.

They both froze slightly.

Then pulled away.

But something had already happened.

Something quiet.

Something real.

And even with war coming closer—

Their hearts were already moving forward.

Elsewhere — Unknown Location

A dark room.

Cold.

Silent.

A man stood in the shadows.

The injured messenger dropped to his knees in front of him.

Barely alive.

"…Damian…"

He whispered weakly.

The man stepped forward slowly.

His face still hidden.

"…So he sent you back like this."

A pause.

Then—

A low chuckle.

"Good."

He turned away.

"Now I know he's ready."

Silence filled the room again.

Then his voice echoed one last time.

"…Let's see how far he'll go to protect her."

Azrel had accepted the challenge.

And the real war…

Was just beginning.

To be continued…
