The storm had finally passed.
Under a sky filled with silver stars, Aren, Lyra, and Kael stood before the ancient Temple of Stars. The massive stone structure was hidden deep within the Veyr Mountains, untouched for thousands of years.
Aren stared at the glowing Star Shard in his hand.
It pulsed faster than ever before.
"It's calling to something," he said.
Lyra nodded. "Or something is calling to it."
The enormous temple doors slowly opened with a deep groan.
Cold air rushed out from the darkness within.
Kael tightened his grip on his sword.
"Well," he muttered, "there's no turning back now."
Together, they stepped inside.
The temple was far larger than it appeared from the outside.
Ancient pillars stretched toward a ceiling hidden in darkness.
Blue crystals glowed softly along the walls.
Every surface was covered with carvings.
Stories of ancient heroes.
The rise of Elyndor.
The creation of the stars.
Aren stopped in front of one carving.
A man stood beneath a burning sky.
Dark shadows surrounded him.
His crown was broken.
His eyes were empty.
Below the image were ancient words.
THE FALLEN KING
A chill ran through Aren.
"Who was he?" he asked.
Lyra studied the carving.
"A ruler from the First Age. He wanted the power of every star."
"And what happened to him?" Kael asked.
"The stars rejected him."
"That's all?"
Lyra shook her head.
"No one knows the rest."
Hours later, they reached the center of the temple.
A giant crystal tower rose from the floor.
Its blue light illuminated the entire chamber.
As Aren approached, the Star Shard suddenly floated from his hand.
The crystal tower began to glow.
Symbols appeared in the air.
Ancient magic awakened.
Then a voice echoed through the chamber.
A voice filled with cold hatred.
"You have finally come."
The room fell silent.
Aren's heart pounded.
"Who's there?"
Dark mist gathered near the crystal tower.
The shadows twisted together.
A figure slowly emerged.
Black armor.
A torn cloak.
Eyes glowing red.
The Fallen King.
Kael immediately drew his sword.
The king laughed.
"You still believe weapons matter?"
With a simple gesture, Kael was thrown across the room.
He crashed into a pillar.
"Kael!" Lyra shouted.
The king ignored them.
His gaze remained fixed on Aren.
"The Heart Shard..."
His voice was almost a whisper.
"After centuries, it has returned."
Aren stepped forward.
"What do you want?"
The king smiled.
"The same thing I wanted long ago."
Darkness spread across the floor.
"The power of the stars."
Suddenly, shadow creatures emerged from the walls.
Dozens of them.
Their eyes glowed crimson.
Their claws scraped against stone.
Lyra charged first.
Her sword flashed through the darkness.
Kael joined the battle moments later.
Steel clashed against shadow.
Aren raised the Star Shard.
Blue light exploded from the crystal.
Several creatures vanished instantly.
But more kept coming.
The chamber shook.
The crystal tower flickered.
The battle seemed endless.
Then Aren heard a voice.
Not from the king.
Not from his friends.
From the Star Shard itself.
Believe.
The crystal blazed brighter than ever.
Aren felt power flowing through him.
He lifted both hands.
A wave of pure starlight burst outward.
The entire chamber was flooded with blue light.
The shadow creatures screamed.
One by one, they disappeared.
Silence returned.
The Fallen King stood alone.
For the first time, his expression changed.
Not fear.
Concern.
"You are awakening faster than expected," he said.
His body slowly began turning into smoke.
Aren took a step forward.
"Wait!"
The king's red eyes narrowed.
"You think this is the beginning of your story."
The shadows swirled around him.
"But this kingdom is already dying."
Aren froze.
"What do you mean?"
The king pointed toward the sky above the temple.
"The stars are disappearing."
Then he vanished.
The crystal tower suddenly cracked.
A beam of light shot through the ceiling and into the night sky.
Far above the mountains, one brilliant star flickered.
Then another.
And another.
One by one, the stars began to fade.
Aren stared in horror.
The Fallen King had spoken the truth.
Something was killing the stars.
And if the stars died...
Elyndor would die with them.
