Chapter 3 - Ch. 3 Rapid Growth!

Writing another chapter before my shift ends~

--------------------------------------------------------------------

After wandering through the wastes for a while, I managed to figure out two things. First, this particular stretch of the vast Hueco Mundo seems to have no other Hollows besides myself for the moment. Second, it seems Hollows can instinctively tear open a Garganta to travel to the World of the Living. I'm not sure if this is a standard feature for everyone or if I'm just special, but I can definitely open one.

That said, I couldn't just jump in blindly. I wasn't confident in my ability to find humans with high spiritual power and devour them without running straight into a Soul Reaper. For now, exploring this desert further was my priority; going to the World of the Living would have to remain a final, desperate resort.

"Are there really none here? There should be at least one."

What I was looking for wasn't some run-of-the-mill, trash-tier Hollow. I thought they'd be common around here, but searching for them was proving unexpectedly difficult. Regardless, I set off again, hunting for the right prey.

"Found you!"

Before I knew it, the moon had risen over Hueco Mundo, bringing the night. I wasn't entirely sure how time worked here yet, but much like the human world, there was a distinct cycle of day and night. Having scavenged from dawn until now, I finally laid eyes on the Hollows I had been searching for.

Even from a distance, they radiated an overwhelming presence that made my skin crawl and my head spin with vertigo. Their Spiritual Pressure was suffocating. These were Adjuchas—the evolved monsters that had emerged from the mindless masses of Menos Grande by cannibalizing their fellow Gillians.

There was only one reason a bottom-feeder Hollow like me was seeking these monsters out: their infighting. To prevent themselves from regressing back into mindless Gillians, Adjuchas must constantly devour others of their own rank. Once an Adjuchas regresses, they can never evolve again. I was counting on that desperation.

'The Spiritual Pressure coming from those two Adjuchas is perfectly balanced. They're deadlocked. If they keep tearing at each other until they're both spent, I can walk away with a double kill.'

In a fight between Adjuchas, the stronger usually wins—a rule that applies to everything in this hellscape. The Law of the Jungle isn't just a saying here. Right now, I'm the weakling. Either of them could crush me in an instant. However, because they both consider themselves predators, they'll keep rending each other's flesh until one dies. Usually, the loser is devoured by the winner, but if they both collapse from exhaustion? That creates an opening for a scavenger like me to feast on them both. It's a total gamble. If the power gap is wider than I think and the winner comes for me next, my life ends right here. I'm literally betting my soul on this plan.

'Please, just kill each other already!'

Having trekked through the white sands since morning, I was feeling a gnawing, primal hunger. I probably won't die from an empty stomach just yet... or maybe I will. I still don't know the limits of this Hollow body, but I do know I'm starving. My only hope was for those two to finish each other off and become my dinner.

The chapters are short because of my part-time job!

Whoa, even for a protagonist, winning against a Menos Grande straight up is impossible right now. This gamble is only possible because he's the MC, but normally, you'd get stepped on or eaten before you could even get close. My way is actually safer. Hehehe.

Well, that's just my delusion.
