He wasn't a Guest, He was Home
The weight of the diamond bracelet was still a cold, shocking presence on my wrist when Mr. Haris Halton cleared his throat, his gaze shifting from me to the man standing silently by my side.
"Which brings us to the next matter," he said, voice composed, though something unspoken flickered in his eyes. "Dafa. Since you're here, it seems you'll be staying."
The statement resounded like an earthquake. Dafa's return wasn't a fleeting visit, it was a reclamation.
Mrs Minerva Halton recovered from her shock enough to flare her indignation.
"Staying? In this house? Haris, you can't be serious. He hasn't lived under this roof since he was a child. His… circumstances are better suited elsewhere."
Dafa's reply was calm but razor-sharp. "Elsewhere. Out of sight. That arrangement suited you well, Stepmother, didn't it? But things have changed."
