That evening Sarah and Kieran sat down for dinner, He had told her about his walk during the day and the conversation he had with the shopkeeper she was surprised to hear about this news.
"so the government is trying to gain back its authority from the hunters with this move" she asked as she ate
"Seems so and also it is working " Kieran replied
"What do you plan to do? " she asked interested in his reply
" I honestly don't know I mean this academy is going to have not just people like me but also people like Jason and I just got away from that I don't need another two years of it " Kieran said turning his attention to his meal.
"I understand but are you ready to just turn your back away from such an opportunity all because of some unknown Jason, think about what your parents will say" Sarah said
"They would say I should go for it but they aren't here so they won't understand" Kieran replied getting up and putting his dish in the sink as he turned and left the kitchen.
Kieran's parents Matthew and Emily Blake were two people among the many who lost their lives in a monster outbreak eleven years ago at that time gene mutation had just started and monster outbreaks were occurring everywhere it was the early stages of the new world Matthew and Emily died during a catastrophic outbreak in a city that was never saved and was eventually locked down and cut off from the rest of the world. To the rest of the world it was known as the Apocalypse town or TownX.
'Knock'
"Kieran can I come in" Sarah asked waiting by the door for a reply but then the door opened, she watched as Kieran walked back to his bed and sat on it.
The room was quite small only having space for a single bed, a desk and chair and a wardrobe placed at the right corner.
Walking up to the bed Sarah sat down next to Kieran placing huge box between them.
"You know your mum used to plan ahead for everything that was going to seem like a problem in the future she would keep anything that seemed likely to be useful for occasions she would place them into a box and keeping it." Sarah said
" She called it her aid kit "Kieran replied with a sad smile
" Yeah aid kit, I always told her she couldn'tplan for everything didn'tknow how right I was "Sarah said her eyes watering up
"She didn't plan for this though one of the things she didn't plan for. "Sarah continued as she opened the box bringing out a picture of Kieran together with his parents when he was four, His dad had black smooth hair and brown eyes his mom has smooth silky black hair that reached her waist and black eyes her smile was warm and sweet she held Kieran in her arms while his dad held her the smile on all their faces was genuine and happy at that time everything was perfect it was his fourth birthday and they had gone out to celebrate they had taken the picture in a picture booth in the mall at that time everything was perfect and the world hadn't changed back then.
"Kieran the decision to go to this academy I know you might not want to because of everything that has happened back in school but you can'tdeny that this is an opportunity for you they wouldn't want you to make an important decision like this one based on fear" Sarah said, reaching into the box again she pulled out a ring box handing it to him.
" She also said to give you this it's their wedding ring your father gave it to her she wanted you to wear it that is till you find that special someone" Sarah said with a smile.
Holding the ring box Kieran felt the weight of it on his heart his head dropped looking down at the box in his hands not even noticing as Sarah left the room he was lost deep in thought sadness engulfed him as a tear rolled down his cheeks hitting the box after a while he opened the box and brought out the ring putting it on. It was a silver plated ring with a starry design round it and a curvy black line running round it one could say it was a plain ring.
After putting it on his left middle finger Kieran laid back on his bed as he reminisced about the past how life had been with his simple and enjoyable everything then now seemed perfect. He stayed awake for a while but eventually he fell asleep with a smile and on his left middle finger a small pulse was felt the ring's curvy lines and starry pattern lit up with a blue light
