The safe house was a nondescript apartment in a quiet residential neighborhood, two bedrooms, a kitchen, a living room with peeling wallpaper and a couch that looked like it had seen better days.
We filed inside. The atmosphere was beyond tense at this point.
Aisha immediately pulled out her phone and started making calls, pacing back and forth across the living room. Her voice was low, clipped, professional.
Kaito collapsed onto the couch, pulled out his own phone, and started yelling.
"You fucking bastards! What happened? Who leaked the information?!" His voice rose higher, sharper.
"Shit! This is your responsibility! What the hell do you think this means?!"
He switched to a mix of Japanese and curses, his face red with fury. "Don't fuck with me! Find out now! If you can't figure it out, I'll cut your throat!"
Kairen sat at the small dining table, unnaturally calm. His hands were folded in front of him, his face blank, like he'd shut down completely.
