"Shit," The Deep muttered, noticing a message from his handler in Sandusky, who had written that he had stopped by and had important news.
Anticipating future situations, Moskowitz had pre-downloaded a special program that forwarded any text messages from his main, one-hundred-percent-traceable phone to the new one, which could be damaged or destroyed at any moment.
He was also notified of calls, but he didn't redirect the conversations themselves; it would be too easy to get caught by background noise that didn't match the "lively" town in Ohio.
Kevin decided to deal with the important news later; now was clearly not the right time to clutter his head with thoughts of what might have changed in the events of this world to make his local warden seek him out.
As Moskowitz remembered, in the original timeline, he had been the one looking for the man, expecting that with superheroes being pushed into the army, he would be brought back to the team and sent to train dolphins to disarm torpedoes.
Now the roles were reversed, and although it worried The Deep, he managed to get himself under control and focus on the task at hand. Tossing the phone back into his bag, he began to change.
Wearing a full mask, complete with darkened glasses and gloves, Kevin slipped inside the building.
Wandering through the corridors, he followed the sound of a pair of soldiers dragging Campbell away.
After ten minutes of pursuit, the sound of footsteps disappeared behind a slamming door. Two minutes later, he found Kimiko's room.
After checking the area for cameras, Kevin moved away from the wall, his form becoming a more pronounced distortion in space, and headed inside.
Reaching the door to the makeshift cell, he found it locked. Fortunately, the place was clearly a temporary setup for the mercenaries, so instead of a more reliable electronic lock, there was a semi-rusty metal one, and the door itself wasn't very sturdy.
Using the minimum range and power of his laser, Kevin struggled to silently contain the force of his attack, which acted as a sort of light-based angle grinder.
He used it to cut out the section of the door with the lock, gaining unobstructed access to Kimiko's room.
Stepping inside, the unfocused gaze of the girl, who was unable to even get out of bed, immediately fixed on him.
Walking over to Kimiko, Kevin took the IV bag of chemicals from its stand and pulled the needle from the Japanese woman's vein.
He took off his backpack, placed his find inside, and then watched as the girl made a feeble attempt to grab his wrist with clearly hostile intentions.
"Easy, kid. I'm a friend," The Deep said, intercepting her hand and putting it back on the bed before unfastening the straps that held her body.
The whole time, the girl watched the man's actions with an increasingly lucid gaze.
"I don't know how long it'll take you to come to your senses, but your friends will be here soon. As soon as you hear gunshots, you can start acting," The Deep said, scanning the room and finding a couple more spare bags of the chemical.
Taking everything he needed and waving goodbye to the surprised Japanese woman, Kevin left the room.
After a moment's thought, he decided to give The Boys a little help. Although Moskowitz was more aware than anyone in this world of the danger this team posed, the opportunity to blame them for some of Vought's failures and Homelander's plans—who in this reality was much more concerning than his comic book counterpart—was too tempting.
Moving to another part of the building, Moskowitz found four goons guarding the exits and began to eliminate them.
Of course, The Deep didn't kill anyone.
To be honest, even after receiving the memories of the previous owner of his body, who had committed several murders with his own hands, he still tried to avoid lethal outcomes for his victims.
Maybe it was the upbringing he'd received in his past life, or maybe it was a way of distancing himself from most superheroes, who always had at least one skeleton in their closet related to the misuse of their powers.
It wasn't entirely clear, but the four mercenaries who had caught the superhero's eye should have been thanking their lucky stars that day.
Moskowitz snuck up behind the first two victims during their patrol.
Grabbing the straps of the assault rifles slung across the soldiers' bodies, Kevin twisted them around their necks in one motion, turning the straps into makeshift garrotes.
The shocked mercenaries flailed their free hands for a few seconds, trying to reach The Deep, until one of them decided to signal his comrades by reaching for the trigger of his rifle.
"I wouldn't advise that. Right now, you're just going to take a nap. But if you press that, I'll snap both your necks instantly," Kevin said, noticing the soldier's action.
After the threat, the man lowered his hand and stopped resisting, his body going limp in Moskowitz's hands a few seconds later. His partner soon shared his colleague's fate.
The next two mercenaries were standing separately, each guarding a specific exit.
The Deep couldn't approach the one guarding the driveway unnoticed, so after memorizing the soldier's position, he decided to perform one of the techniques he had been practicing recently.
A few seconds later, darkness began to spread from behind one of the columns five meters away from the armed mercenary.
Seeing what was happening, the man was terrified, watching the impenetrable film that seemed to absorb even light.
Turning to flee, he didn't even take a step before he was swallowed by the darkness with a half-scream.
A moment after being absorbed, a hand slammed into his back, painfully smashing his body, with several broken ribs, into the wall.
Then, terrified by the loss of sight and the pain, the mercenary was grabbed by the neck and his face was slammed into the floor several times, leaving a bloody trail on the concrete from his broken nose and a couple of knocked-out teeth.
