Then, terrified by the loss of sight and the pain, the mercenary was grabbed by the neck and his face was slammed into the floor several times, leaving a bloody trail on the concrete from his broken nose and a couple of knocked-out teeth.
A moment later, when the darkness disappeared as if it had never existed, there were two people at the exit: a forty-year-old man who had lost consciousness from the pain and injuries, and the former member of The Seven, The Deep, hiding his identity, holding the soldier's body with one hand and carrying it to a more secluded place.
Moskowitz dealt with the last opponent with a precise blow to the jaw as the twenty-five-year-old kid, not expecting an attack in an empty building, was rushing to help his comrades, who were slowly cornering the three fugitives.
After the blow, he instantly lost consciousness, and his mouth filled with a metallic taste.
Listening to the message on the walkie-talkie at his feet, The Deep realized that one of the season's main battles was about to happen, and according to his plan, he couldn't miss it.
Covering himself with a new mirage and dissolving into space, Kevin headed towards the sound of gunfire, waiting to witness the battle between his future teammates and their past selves.
Arriving at the scene of the firefight, Kevin saw a nearly recovered Kimiko tearing through the soldiers with the support of precise shots from Frenchie.
This couldn't last long, and after a minute, all the mercenaries were dead.
Having dealt with the threat, the captives decided to look for an exit.
A moment later, the lights throughout the building flickered, and Starlight emerged from around the corner with brightly glowing eyes and light charges ready in her hands.
Spotting the new opponent, Frenchie and MM immediately took aim at the girl, while the Japanese woman charged at the enemy with a scream.
Shocked by Kimiko's actions, Annie shot a couple of light blasts into her chest, which sent the girl's body flying a few meters towards The Boys' feet. Enraged by the attack on the supe he cared for, Frenchie immediately opened fire on Starlight. A second later, MM joined him.
Under a hail of bullets, the girl ducked behind a wall and began to resentfully contemplate the situation.
"Stop!" Hughie shouted, stopping his friends from firing suppressively and standing in the way of the recovered and eager-to-fight female.
"Little Hughie, you don't think it's just a coincidence that a supe from The Seven showed up right after the guards were killed?" a worried Frenchie asked, not lowering his rifle.
"Listen to him, kid. I don't know what kind of relationship you had before, but now you're enemies," MM supported his partner.
"I gave her the coordinates," Campbell said. "I made my phone notify her of my location every ten minutes and wrote what I was going to do," the guy stunned his partners with the news.
"I came to help!" Annie shouted from around the corner, not wanting to peek out for fear of being caught in a rain of lead again.
"I told you!" the guy said confidently, heading towards his friend.
Coming out from behind the wall, the girl approached the group and began to examine Hughie's friends with a careful gaze, lingering on the bloodied Kimiko for a long time.
After a few dozen silent seconds, the girl finally changed her gaze and looked at what was happening behind the team's backs, and with a shock, she questioned the correctness of her decision.
The sight of headless or literally disemboweled bodies through a hole in a bulletproof vest did not add to Starlight's confidence in her choice.
"Alright, since your girlfriend isn't going to blind us or turn us inside out, I think we need to hurry up and get out of this place before someone who hasn't been in your bed shows up," MM said, slinging his rifle over his shoulder and turning his gaze to the young girl who was staring too intently at Kimiko.
"I-I know where the exit is," Annie said, fighting back a wave of nausea from the scene, turning around, and starting to lead the team.
At that moment, The Deep was discreetly following them, thinking about what would happen next.
Reaching the gate, the group began to unlock it, but Kimiko, deciding not to waste much time, simply plunged her hands into the not-too-thick metal sheets and bent several sides, making a large hole through which The Boys began to climb out.
When MM, Frenchie, and Hughie were already outside, A-Train suddenly burst into the room.
"Wow!" the speedster said, high on Compound V and feeling better than ever. "Homelander was right. You're a fucking traitor. And helping a super-terrorist, to boot," A-Train said with surprise and a hint of not-so-strong, barely perceptible rage.
Kimiko, seeing her familiar opponent, quickly put the metal sheets back in place, to the shouts of The Boys from the other side of the gate.
"Mon coeur, no! He's too dangerous," the worried Frenchman shouted.
"You'd better listen to your boyfriend, slant-eye. I remember your head sounded great when it hit the concrete. If you don't want a repeat, surrender peacefully," A-Train said with a smirk, to which the girl only let out a growl and prepared to attack.
"Turn around and leave, A-Train," Starlight said, feeling immense tension from the whole situation.
"Or what?" the speedster asked.
"You're outnumbered. And she won't hold back," Starlight said, glancing at the furious Japanese woman, who was ready to kill.
"I could agree, and then Homelander would come for your souls later, but it'll be much more interesting to deal with it here myself. I'm the fastest man in the world, and you bitches won't even realize what's happening before you're broken pieces of meat. But you regenerate, right?" the supe asked a rhetorical question, turning his gaze to the Japanese woman, and then continued his threats.
