Chapter 11 - Chapter 11: Gym Challenge

Alex Carter luxuriated in his high-speed airship, its interior akin to a lavish home. If only he had a few girls by his side, those days would be bliss.

As a Villain, he thought, capturing Pokémon shouldn't be his only pursuit. Beautiful girls could be captured too.

Thanks to the airship, Alex reached Pewter City in mere hours.

Pewter City, known for its abundant stones, was home to many Rock-type Pokémon. Upon entering, Alex noticed numerous people walking with Rock-type Pokémon.

Wasting no time, Alex sought directions to the Pewter City Gym.

Currently, the Gym was managed by Brock's father, so Alex wouldn't witness any family reunions. Nevertheless, he was determined to earn the Gray Badge.

"Ding, Host has triggered a growth mission."

"Becoming strong is challenging; becoming the ultimate Villain is harder... Host, challenge the Pewter City Gym, improve your strength step by step, and one day stand atop the world. (Complete mission, reward: 3000 points)"

As Alex reached the Pewter City Gym, the system issued a mission, boosting his spirits.

"Is anyone here? I'm here to challenge the Gym," Alex called out as he entered.

The dim Gym lights suddenly flickered on.

"You're here to challenge?"

Brock's father stood on a platform, wiping down a wall with a bucket of water.

"Yes, sir, I'm here to challenge," Alex replied.

"Alright, our challenge rules are two-on-two. The Trainer whose Pokémon remains standing wins!" Brock's father set down his bucket and spoke calmly.

After stating the rules, he took his place on a Gym platform.

Alex stepped onto his own platform.

"Come out, Geodude!"

Brock's father released a Poké Ball, and a stone-shaped Pokémon appeared.

"Ding, Geodude (already has a Trainer)

A Rock-type Pokémon. Its stones have magnetic properties, attracting dense iron sand for defense. Often found in grasslands or mountains, it resembles a rock, causing many adventurers to trip over it.

Learned skills: Tackle, Defense Curl, Smack Down, Self-Destruct, Rock Blast

Combat Power: 280 points."

...Seeing Geodude's stats, Alex smirked. With Haunter's 510-point Combat Power, defeating Geodude would be a breeze.

"Come out, Haunter!"

Alex released Haunter onto the field.

"Your Haunter is well-trained; it looks strong," Brock's father observed, studying Haunter before offering praise.

"Alright, let's start."

Alex initiated the battle.

"Haunter, use Hypnosis."

Haunter swung its claws, activating Hypnosis.

Across the field, Brock's father issued a command.

"Geodude, stay focused, resist Hypnosis! Take the initiative; don't be passive. Use Tackle; charge straight at it," Brock's father instructed.

Though Haunter's Hypnosis took effect, Geodude shook it off and charged at Haunter.

"It won't be that easy, sir."

Alex chuckled.

"Haunter, dodge and use Double Team, then finish with Confuse Ray."

These were Haunter's strongest skills.

Against Geodude, these ensured victory.

Indeed, after Haunter used Double Team, Geodude was bewildered. Numerous Haunters surrounded it, leaving no room to attack.

"Geodude, use Defense Curl to protect yourself."

Brock's father saw Geodude struggling. Meanwhile, Haunter unleashed Confuse Ray, beams shooting from its eerie eyes.

Bang, bang!

Confuse Ray struck Geodude, kicking up dust. Alex shielded his face, waiting for it to settle. Once clear, Haunter floated in the arena, while Geodude lay defeated, eyes swirling.

"Round one, you win."

Brock's father recalled Geodude.

"But this time, you won't be so lucky... Come out, Onix."

He released a Poké Ball, summoning a massive Onix to the arena.

"Ding, Onix (already has a Trainer)

A Rock-type Pokémon. Its size and rocky body make it challenging for novice Trainers to capture early on.

Learned skills: Dig, Roar, Earthquake, Iron Tail, Bind, Harden

Combat Power: 370 points."

...Checking Onix's stats, Alex noted its superior abilities compared to Geodude.

Yet, to Alex, it remained manageable.

"Haunter, let's finish this quickly. Use Dark Pulse."

Alex stepped forward, pointing ahead and shouting.

As Haunter used Dark Pulse, the Gym's lights flickered, a result of the powerful skill.

Onix felt panic.

"Onix, use Roar to boost your morale."

Brock's father, experienced, countered by having Onix use Roar to dispel its fear.

"It won't work. Use Double Team again, then deliver the final blow."

..."Onix, use Harden."

Brock's father analyzed Haunter's abilities during its battle with Geodude.

Geodude's defense couldn't withstand Haunter's Confuse Ray, but Onix's could. With Harden, even Confuse Ray wouldn't penetrate.

Once Haunter exhausted its skills and stamina, Onix would seize the win.

But reality was harsh.

After Double Team, Alex had Haunter circle Onix, using Nightmare and Mean Look instead of Confuse Ray.

Onix trembled uncontrollably.

"No more Harden. You can't keep it up."

"It's my turn... Final move, Hypnosis!"

Seeing Onix's state, Alex had Haunter deliver a strong Hypnosis.

Hypnosis worked instantly.

Onix fell into a deep sleep on the ground!
