Chapter 24 - 24. Your Gaze

"Maybe because the capital is always so crowded, while here it's quiet just forests, and so many fireflies," Jay said softly, his gaze lingering on Liv, who was still mesmerized by the glowing lights fluttering through the night air.

The fireflies danced above the surface of the river, their faint golden light reflecting on Liv's face, making her look calm and ethereal. The night breeze carried the scent of damp earth and wildflowers that grew along the forest edge.

"Did you know," Jay began in a low, even tone, "that fireflies only live to reproduce before they die?"

Liv turned to him, her brows furrowed."How could that be?" she asked quietly.

"They only live for two or three weeks," Jay replied. "Once they reproduce, they die."

"That's… so sad," Liv murmured, her voice soft, her eyes still following the flickering lights.
