"Someone's coming out!"
Just as Natasha and Thor were chatting, they saw Victor Landon humming a tune as he strolled out of his apartment.
The man casually got into his car. Seeing that, Thor frowned and looked at Natasha.
"Why hasn't that guy named Linen shown up yet?"
"Relax. Be patient," Natasha replied coolly, starting her car. She followed Victor's vehicle from a safe distance.
Inside Victor's Car
"Lawyer George, you did a great job this time. I'll have the balance transferred to you — make sure to check it."
Victor Landon's smug voice filled the car as he drove toward his mistress's house. But the next second, a figure in a black robe and mask dropped out of the sky, landing directly in front of the car.
Startled, Victor slammed his foot on the brakes. The tires screeched violently, and the car stopped just inches from the mysterious figure — Linen.
"F*ck!" Victor cursed, his face pale with fright. He jumped out of the car, shouting angrily, "Are you insane?! Do you have a death wish?! If I hadn't braked in time, you would've been—"
Before he could finish, Linen stepped forward silently.
"You… what are you trying to do? I warn you—"
Victor didn't even finish his sentence before Linen seized him by the collar and yanked him out of the car as if he weighed nothing.
He ignored Victor's panicked shouting. Under the mask, Linen's cold gaze flicked toward Natasha and Thor, who were watching from their car nearby. Then, without hesitation, he opened a glowing portal — and disappeared into it with Victor Landon.
"Wow! Even Loki doesn't know that trick!" Thor exclaimed, eyes wide in astonishment.
He turned to Natasha. "Is that the same cheerful young man you and Nick Fury were talking about? By Odin… the look in his eyes just now was colder than the void!"
Chewing her gum, Natasha smirked. "Yeah, that's him. Linen — the sunny, kind-hearted boy who loves to help people. That's what all his classmates and friends say, anyway."
Thor stared at her in disbelief. "Are you sure we're talking about the same person? Because the guy I just saw looked like a demon from Helheim, not some 'kind-hearted boy.'"
Ignoring Thor's comment, Natasha pulled out her phone and called Nick Fury.
"Just as we expected — Victor Landon's been taken by Linen."
"I told you," she continued confidently, "Linen's a man with a strong sense of justice and principles."
On the other end of the line, Nick Fury's voice was calm.
"Good. Then proceed according to plan. Keep contact with him as you suggested."
After hanging up, Fury stepped out of his office. Outside, a group of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents surrounded a confused-looking soldier.
Fury approached and said, "Sorry, soldier. What you saw was a performance — a way to help you better accept reality."
In a Canyon
In a desolate canyon, the air was heavy with dread.
Victor Landon trembled uncontrollably as he faced Linen, whose masked figure radiated an aura of death itself.
"W-Who are you?" Victor stammered. "Let me go! I have money — however much you want, I can—"
Linen's voice was cold and final.
"Victor Landon. Guilty of molesting seven young girls."
"I'm innocent! The court found me not guilty, you can't—"
Before he could finish, Linen grabbed him by the throat and lifted him off the ground with one hand.
"Look into my eyes."
Victor's legs kicked helplessly as he met Linen's gaze — eyes glowing like molten gold. The instant he did, an overwhelming terror pierced his soul.
And then—
Linen released him.
Victor plummeted from the cliff, his scream echoing through the canyon.
"Ahhhh!!!"
The ground rushed up to meet him. Sharp rocks jutted from below like the fangs of beasts. He could see his death approaching, feel his bladder give way in pure terror.
Bang!
When his body hit the rocks, the crunch of shattering bones filled the air. His ribs, spine, and limbs all snapped under the impact. The agony was indescribable.
The jagged stones tore through his flesh as blood pooled beneath him. His consciousness began to fade…
But just as darkness was about to claim him—
Victor gasped awake.
He was back inside his car. The road stretched before him, untouched.
It was as if the fall — the cliff — the pain — had all been a nightmare.
He exhaled shakily, clutching his chest.
"F*ck… that dream felt so real…"
Just as he reached for the ignition, he froze.
In the rearview mirror, a cement tanker was barreling toward him, its horn blaring wildly.
"Oh no—!"
He tried to jump out, but his seatbelt jammed, locking him in place.
The tanker drew closer and closer. Desperation filled his eyes.
BANG!
The collision was brutal. The massive tanker crushed Victor's sleek sports car like paper.
Blood sprayed from his mouth as he screamed in agony. His mangled body twitched as he tried to crawl out of the wreckage.
But then, the cement tanker began to leak. Thick, gray cement poured out, burying the crushed car — and Victor along with it.
"NO!!!"
His final scream was swallowed by the concrete, his voice fading beneath the suffocating weight.
The cement hardened, sealing his fate forever.
For Victor Landon, death had come twice — once in illusion, once in reality.
And this time, there was no waking up.
