Hearing those words — "I will always protect you" — the anger on Xiao Wu's face finally eased. She glanced at Tang San and said softly, "Then be careful."
"There's no need to argue. I already said — you two can come at me together," Dai Shao said impatiently.
Tang San took two calm steps forward and said, "Please advise."
A flash of evil light passed through Dai Shao's eyes as he suddenly raised his right fist and charged forward. The punch went straight for Tang San's chest. His movements were simple and devoid of any flourish, yet Tang San's expression changed. The momentum of that punch — driven by both speed and power — had reached its peak. Without rich combat experience, it would have been impossible to execute such a strike.
At this moment, Tang San could not retreat. If he did, his opponent's momentum would soar, making the punch even more powerful. So instead of stepping back, he advanced. His right foot stepped forward three meters in one stride, closing the distance between them. His goal was simple — to disrupt his opponent's rhythm.
At the same time, Tang San threw out his own right fist, his hand instantly turning into a lustrous milky white.
A muffled bang resounded. Dai Shao's forward charge stopped abruptly, while Tang San was forced back four or five steps before stabilizing his body.
A flash of surprise appeared in Dai Shao's eyes. He clearly hadn't expected the young man before him — who looked even younger than himself — to block his punch.
What surprised Dai Shao even more was the hardness of Tang San's fist. Though he had the advantage in raw attack power, his right hand now ached terribly, as though Tang San's fist were made of solid iron.
Qian Renyue, watching the transformation in Tang San's hands during combat, was filled with curiosity. If it were merely soul power enveloping them, the effect wouldn't be this strong. But there was no sign of a soul bone, nor had he released a soul skill. Could it be a self-created soul technique? Yet, somehow, it didn't seem like that either.
The man with heterochromatic eyes possessed a very condensed kind of strength — not wild or uncontrolled, but concentrated and compact. The power seemed to gather into a single point, erupting all at once. The resulting shockwave made Tang San's blood and qi surge chaotically within his body.
"Good. To take one of my punches — you qualify as my opponent," Dai Shao said coldly. His figure flashed again; this time, his attack was not so simple. He leapt from the ground, pouncing from above. In an instant, he was upon Tang San, his four limbs extended in a strange way. His posture seemed full of flaws, but the subtle movement in each limb hinted at countless possible follow-up attacks.
Tang San's expression grew grave. His knees bent slightly, toes turned inward, and his legs burst with force. His left arm circled inward while his right pushed outward, forming a strange stance.
This move of Dai Shao's was his signature technique. No matter how his opponent defended or attacked, he could respond from multiple angles. Within the seemingly flawed motion lay profound and unpredictable offensive methods — every limb could become a weapon.
But just as his attack was about to unfold, a formless pressure rose from below. The force wasn't particularly strong but was strangely viscous and tenacious. Since Dai Shao was midair and had no leverage, he suddenly felt his body being pulled off-course, veering sideways. His strike missed its target entirely.
What kind of power is this? The thought flashed across Dai Shao's mind, but his battle experience was rich. Twisting his waist in midair, he spun horizontally and landed steadily on the ground.
At that very moment, Tang San launched his counterattack. His timing was perfect — it was the instant Dai Shao's feet touched the ground, the hardest moment to muster strength.
Using Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track, Tang San's feet shifted lightly — three small, precise steps — and he appeared beside Dai Shao. Both palms struck simultaneously toward Dai Shao's shoulders.
Qian Renyue's eyes brightened at the sight and she couldn't help but praise inwardly, What an uncanny and exquisite footwork! There was no fluctuation of soul power, so it couldn't be a soul bone. It was purely a technique of movement. If she could learn this footwork, auxiliary-type Soul Masters would greatly enhance their chances of survival in battle, no longer left completely defenseless before an enemy's strike. Watching Tang San's steps, her eyes filled with desire to learn.
The two exchanged fierce blows. Xiao Wu watched anxiously, while Ning Rongrong, on the other hand, watched with excitement — almost pulling out melon seeds to snack on.
"White Tiger, possess!"
A brilliant pale light burst from Dai Shao's body. He spread his arms wide, chest thrust forward, and the sound of bones cracking filled the air. His muscles swelled, stretching his clothes tight. Every muscle under his shirt became sharply defined, and even the surrounding air seemed to grow violent.
His golden hair instantly turned black and white, with white dominating and streaks of black standing out clearly. Four pale marks appeared on his forehead — three horizontal, one vertical — forming the character "王" (king).
At his feet, three glowing soul rings rose in succession — two yellow, one purple. As they circulated around him, surging waves of soul power pressed outward.
"Dai Mubai. Martial Soul: White Tiger. Rank thirty-seven Battle Soul Sovereign. Please advise."
Amidst that regal aura, Dai Shao reported his Martial Soul and rank — a formal declaration of challenge.
"Heterochromatic eyes... a White Tiger Martial Soul... could he be from—" Qian Renyue murmured softly.
"Sister, what did you say?"
"Nothing. Keep watching."
Facing the immense pressure, Tang San began to change as well. The violent impulse buried deep within him surfaced. A faint violet hue covered his eyes as he slowly raised his right hand.
Deep blue light surged forth — from his palm sprouted a tuft of dark blue grass. Each blade was slender yet covered with snake-like patterns. The formerly flat leaves were now cylindrical, covered in tiny spikes.
Milky-white radiance surged from Tang San's body. The blue grass seemed stimulated, rapidly enlarging until each stalk was as thick as an arm, like writhing vines. Black snake patterns glimmered faintly as they coiled around him like dozens of serpents.
Two yellow soul rings rose beneath his feet, circling around his body.
"Tang San. Martial Soul: Blue Silver Grass. Rank twenty-nine Tool Soul Master. Please advise."
"Blue Silver Grass? Then it can't be him," Qian Renyue thought, "The blue-haired man in my dream was far more handsome. Besides his golden trident, the most distinct thing about him was that he was a disciple of the Clear Sky Sect. The scene of him shattering my sister's Angelic Domain with the Clear Sky Hammer remains etched in my mind."
She then turned her gaze to Xiao Wu. Though still immature, the girl looked oddly familiar.
Dai Mubai raised his white eyebrows slightly. "Your Martial Soul is just Blue Silver Grass?"
Tang San repeated his teacher's words: "There are no useless Martial Souls — only useless Soul Masters."
Qian Renyue's lips twitched slightly. Could this Tang San actually be that useless master's supporter?
"Well said! There are no useless Martial Souls, only useless Soul Masters. Then let me see what's so special about your Blue Silver Grass."
Dai Mubai moved. After possessing his Martial Soul, he became an entirely different person. As his white hair flowed, his explosive power sent him flashing before Tang San.
Sharp claws extended from his ten fingers, slashing toward Tang San.
Tang San reacted instantly, retreating with Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track. He narrowly avoided the attack, while his Blue Silver Grass Martial Soul moved as well — dark blue vines spiraled out from every direction, surging toward Dai Mubai. Tang San himself vanished amidst the vines.
Dai Mubai's evil eyes flashed rapidly. His body shone with surging soul power as he swung his arms, sweeping aside the oncoming vines.
He originally intended to slice through them completely, but to his shock, the vines were incredibly tough. Even with the claws empowered by his rank thirty-seven soul power, he could only cut halfway through before the vines healed themselves almost instantly.
A faint sweet scent spread among the vines, which seemed endless — continuously surging from all sides. Despite Dai Mubai's enhanced strength and speed, he couldn't break free.
This is Blue Silver Grass? Dai Mubai was shocked. He had never imagined Blue Silver Grass could be this formidable. His opponent had one fewer soul ring, yet still managed to restrain him. If they had the same number, victory would be uncertain.
Dai Mubai was never a patient man, but his competitiveness was fierce. A blinding white light erupted — his evil eyes turned completely white. The first of his three soul rings glowed brightly, forming a protective white barrier around him that blocked the vines from closing in.
Then the second soul ring lit up. With a tiger's roar, he spat out a ball of milky-white light.
The two soul skills — White Tiger Barrier and White Tiger Light Wave — activated simultaneously, releasing terrifying power.
From outside, his body was buried within a mass of vines. Xiao Wu sighed in relief, but suddenly, countless white beams burst through the gaps, followed by a thunderous explosion.
The Blue Silver Grass vines shattered, the shockwave sweeping through the Rose Hotel's hall, leaving chaos in its wake.
Because Martial Souls are connected to their users, Tang San's face paled. He stepped back to stabilize himself. As the light faded, Dai Mubai's strong figure reappeared. The shattered vines around Tang San reformed, but their number was greatly reduced.
"Tang San, the attack power of Beast Martial Souls will always surpass Tool Martial Souls. Your Blue Silver Grass is stronger than I expected, but it still can't trap me."
Tang San smiled calmly. "That's not necessarily true."
Suddenly, Tang San's second soul ring flared. Dai Mubai's body froze — at some point, fine vines had appeared on him. As the ring shone, they rapidly grew, binding him tightly.
Though the thorns were only an inch long, the constriction caused intense pain, and Dai Mubai's body began to go numb.
Tang San said evenly, "My Blue Silver Grass is poisonous. You've already inhaled some. By using your soul power to unleash powerful attacks, you accelerated your blood flow, which made the poison act faster. You might not feel it, but your skin has already gone numb, letting my parasitic Blue Silver Grass seeds take hold. So, you've lost."
Dai Mubai glared at Tang San, his body almost fully bound except for his head. The fierce light in his eyes flickered. "Good... very good, Blue Silver Grass. If I were like you, with only two rings, I'd indeed have lost. My body is numb, and it's hard to break free. But I still have one more ring than you. Allow me to show you the power of my third soul ring."
The purple ring shone brightly. The air around Dai Mubai distorted. His eyes turned blood-red, and the vines binding him suddenly swelled before exploding into powder.
Tang San gasped. "This is... the power of a thousand-year soul ring?"
When he was bound, Dai Mubai had activated his third soul skill.
Now, before Tang San and Xiao Wu, Dai Mubai's form changed again. His already strong body swelled further, muscles bulging grotesquely as his upper garments tore apart, revealing a fearsome frame. Black stripes appeared across his skin — if not for the lack of fur, he would have looked like a true tiger.
His tiger claws enlarged, the blades shining silver. His entire body radiated a golden light as if coated in metal. His blood-red eyes gleamed with bloodlust, exuding the dominance of a king among beasts.
Tang San didn't know what this transformation meant, but since it was the ability of a thousand-year soul ring, it was surely extraordinary.
Feeling the same threat, Xiao Wu instantly released her Martial Soul — two yellow rings rose around her. Her white bunny ears perked up, and her delicate figure seemed to soften with ethereal charm.
Dark blue vines shot out from Tang San's body — Blue Silver Grass didn't have to come only from his hands. The spiked tendrils streaked through the air, blocking Dai Mubai's vision while winding toward his limbs and neck. Under Tang San's Mysterious Heaven Skill-powered soul force, his first soul skill's entanglement reached its peak.
As he attacked, Tang San grabbed Xiao Wu, who was about to rush forward, and shook his head.
Battles between men were not to be interfered with — otherwise, one would be looked down upon. Though only twelve, Tang San's mental age was far beyond that. Moreover, while Dai Mubai felt cold and overbearing, Tang San sensed no true hostility from him.
Just as Tang San pulled Xiao Wu back, his pupils shrank and he let out a muffled groan.
Ten streaks of silver light flashed across the air — the Blue Silver Grass stopped midair and disintegrated into dust. Dai Mubai's massive frame stepped toward Tang San, the silver claws gleaming with lethal pressure.
"Your Blue Silver Grass is impressive — far tougher than I expected. My normal power couldn't cut through it in one blow. But now, I'm using my third soul skill — White Tiger Vajra Transformation. To obtain this ring, I endured countless hardships to slay a thousand-year Vajra Tiger soul beast. It greatly boosts my strength, attack, and defense — and grants me this skill."
Dai Mubai stopped ten meters away from Tang San and Xiao Wu, not attacking further.
"My White Tiger Vajra Transformation lasts half an hour. During that time, my resistance to abnormal effects, my strength, attack, and defense all double. With my thirty-seventh-level soul power, your poison can't harm me. No matter how refined your control is, you're still not my match. This is the absolute difference in strength."
The red light faded from his evil eyes as Dai Mubai's body slowly returned to normal. His muscles shrank, and the effects of his possession receded.
He looked somewhat comical now — his shirt completely torn, his pants ripped in several places, the Blue Silver Grass's spikes having shredded much of his clothing.
Restoring his usual expression, Dai Mubai looked deeply at Tang San and Xiao Wu. "I think we'll meet again soon. When you arrive at Shrek Academy, if anyone troubles you, just mention my name — Evil-Eyed White Tiger Dai Mubai."
With that, he waved to the twin beauties and walked toward the exit.
Xiao Wu couldn't help but shout at his back, "How do you know we're going to Shrek Academy?"
Dai Mubai stopped and said coldly, "You're about twelve, right? At that age, with over level twenty soul power, what else could you be doing now but enrolling at Shrek Academy? Twelve, haha... twelve. I'm already fifteen. Tang San, I'll be waiting for you at Shrek Academy."
By the time his last word faded, Dai Mubai had already left the hotel.
Watching his back, Xiao Wu pouted. "What a strange guy. He doesn't look like a good person at all. Xiao San, even if we go to Shrek Academy, let's not deal with him."
After putting away her Martial Soul, she lowered her voice and asked, "Brother, if he had really beaten you just now, would we really have had to roll out of here?" She still remembered Dai Mubai's arrogant words earlier.
Tang San said calmly, "Even if someone had to roll out, it would only be me. That's why I didn't let you intervene. He was right — the difference of one soul ring is enormous. Whether in soul power, ring attributes, or that thousand-year ring's ability, he surpasses us. Once he used White Tiger Vajra Transformation, even the two of us together might not beat him. But would I really let you be driven out? If he insisted, I'd fight to the death. My strength isn't equal to his, but if it came down to it, I'm seventy percent confident I could take him with me."
As Tang San walked toward the counter, Xiao Wu lowered her head and whispered his words under her breath —
"Fight to the death... for dignity."
